  1. No problems with this stay. This is an extended stay facility with outside corridors, more like a small apartment complex. The 2 rooms we had were small with a queen, no sleeper sofa or room for a roll-away. Got the no smoking we requested. Arrived after the front desk closed ( 9 p.m.). There was a phone to call the attendent. Room was clean and had an efficiency kitchen. All the usual features except no hairdryer. No pool, internet or breakfast. Maid service is only 1 time a week. There was some wear and tear-but not excessive. Plenty of close parking. We were not asked to provide a credit card and no mention of Priceline was made. We paid $35 and were happy with our stay. The confirmation from Priceline indicated that we would only receive a room with 1 queen. This could be a problem for a family bidding a 2* in this zone.
  2. No problems getting the requested at check-in non-smoking double, even though they had assigned a king. Facility was easy to find and a typical older Holiday Inn with outside corridors. We got a room over-looking the pool on the second floor. No noise problems as there was not anyone next to us on either side. They looked to be less than half full on a Saturday night. There is a restaurant on-site and they offer room service, but we did not try it. No free breakfast. Room was adequate size and clean with all expected 2* amenities, coffee maker, iron and hairdryer. Plenty of channels on the tv, including pay per view. Didn't notice internet and I don't think they had it, but didn't ask. The carpet, wallpaper and furnishing were in good repair. In fact this stay would have been above average except that the beds were just awful. Soft and bouncy, which would have been great if we just wanted to jump on them. But, as luck would have it, we actually wanted to sleep. The heating/cooling unit was fine and worked well but we woke up over and over again because of the terrible beds. We got this for $45, which, I think, was close to the target price as I had bid this several times with no success. The lowest direct rate I found was $62. We have stayed over night several times in this area but the beds here would keep us from ever bidding this zone again.
  3. I have never been successful bidding this area before so thought I would post. This is a Saturday night check-in, which is what I have always bid unsuccessfully in the past. There really isn't a free re-bid here, but I usually bid Dandridge also, since the distance isn't that great. Bid a couple of times previously up to $40 for a 2 *. Today bid $40 for Morristown 2* and then $45 by adding Dandridge. The hotel's website shows $64 as lowest rate, so no great savings. I have seen this hotel, but only from the exterior. It is a good location for us. Will try to post a review. Holiday Inn Morristown 3230 West Andrew Johnson Hwy. Morristown, TN 37814 423-581-8700 This is NOT the downtown location. If, as we do, you have a child at Carson-Newman College, this is only about 10 minutes away. As always, I used the savingsbarn.com link. :)
  4. Have been watching Hotwire and bidding Priceline for over a month for these dates. Bid up to $85 on Priceline for 4* and $65 for 3* with no success. This is a Saturday check-in on Memorial Day weekend so I knew it would be difficult. Today Hotwire dropped from about $121 to $71 and I decided to go ahead and bite on this one. My back-up was the Crown Plaza on an Entertainment Card rate of $82. From the reviews and advice from DJHammer I think we will be happier at the Sheraton. Besides we really like their beds :) . This was a Customer Favorite, icons were: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Business I also plan to use my Entertainment Card Hotwire coupon so that brings the daily, per room, down to about $77, including tax and Hotwire fees. My first time with Hotwire and I could not have been so successful without the great advice on this board. I used the savingsbarn.com link. Thanks!
  5. Started the bid with $35, 2.5 *, Hoover-rejected. Next added Oxmoor/Homewood and bid $40, also 2.5 star, also rejected. Started a new bid for 2* and $35. This one was successful: La Quinta Inn Hoover Riverchase 120 Riverchase Parkway Birmingham, AL 35244 205-403-0096 Thanks again for your terrific site. Wish they were all this easy. This bid was through savingsbarn.com :)
  6. No complaints about this one. A nice, new, clean facility easily located less than a mile from I-85, in a safe, convenient area. Only a queen size bed, but a full kitchen and a sleeper sofa, sort of an efficiency apartment. It is in a group of these extended stay hotels. Everything from check-in to check-out was effortless. Comfortable bed and no unnecessary noises. All requests honored with a smile. No breakfast but you could cook your own :) .
  7. Don't see this one listed so I will provide the address: Homestead Studio Suites Durham/Research Triangle Park 4515 NC Highway 55 Durham, NC 27713 919-544-9991
  8. Started with a bid for Greensboro $26, Greensboro East $26, High Point $30, all 2* bids for the same date. All rejected, no counter offers. Since we are just driving through, decided to try for Chapel Hill. Bid $28, rejected with a $12 counter offer. Added Research Triangle Park and bid $30. Accepted. Lowest rate I found was $68 for this property. The acceptance includes a note that the reservation is for a queen bed only. But this property does have a sleeper sofa and a kitchen. We booked 2 rooms. The reviews on trip advisor look ok. Used the savingsbarn.com link. :)
  9. I started the bid with $40 for 2.5 * Montgomery East. Got a counter offer for $12 but just added the free rebid of Montgomery Airport (only 1* offered) and bid $45. This was rejected. Started a new bid for 2* at $30 and got an $8 counter offer. Again added Montgomery Airport and bid $35. Accepted at: Townplace Suites 5047 Carmichael Road Montgomery, AL 36106 The Montgomery (Downtown) area was greyed out. Note that on my acceptance from Priceline was a note that this hotel is an extended stay type and only offers twice weekly maid service. There was also a note that the room had 1 queen bed only, although their website shows that they do have other types of rooms. This might be a problem for a family, but not for us on this particular trip. The room does have a kitchenette. Finally got a bid accepted using your savingbarn.com link! Thanks so much for your great site :)
  10. We got this hotel about 2 months before our stay at a bid of $139. I bid several times, using free re-bids, before getting this hotel for 4 nights over the Easter weekend. We stayed Thursday-Monday. I really tried to target this property because it gets great reviews on trip advisor. We were not disappointed in any way and did not feel that we got a lesser room because we booked through Priceline, in fact we received an upgrade to a partial ocean view room, and were able to see the ocean from our 11th floor room, in the K tower (the one closest to the ocean). We rented a car and used the self-parking at $14 a day with no problems. The valet is $19. All employees we encountered were extremely pleasant. The room was large with a great bed. We got the king no-smoking we requested with no problem. The bathroom is not large but is adequate, with the sink being outside the room. There is an empty mini refrigerator, which came in very handy. Hairdryer with good power is provided and there was a programmable large safe in the closet. Plenty of pillows and good towels. There are beach type towels at the pools. There is a pool for each tower. The pools are nothing special and do get crowded but we didn't come to Hawaii for a pool. There is an iron and ironing board in the room. A coffee maker is provided and coffee replenished daily (10% Kona-yummy). The lanai is large enough for 2 comfortable chairs and small table and plenty of room to walk around. I think the internet was about $10 a day. There were plenty of channels on the tv including one for the hotel. They give you a newsletter with all of the resort activities when you check in and there were many the weekend we were there. We didn't eat at any of the hotel restaurants but they appeared busy. We liked the location of the hotel. We could walk almost anywhere on the beach in Waikiki and since the resort is more at the south end it was easy to go other places without spending so much time caught in traffic when we wanted to leave the beach area. The only small complaint we had was the noise from the street, but we expected this and brought earplugs, so we were set. The lowest rate I saw for a partial oceanview (like we had) was $279, so we felt that we got a bargain. Everything in the room was in good repair and very clean, and housekeeping was great. Our room was always clean when we returned. A good true 4* and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
  11. On my very first Priceline bid I received the Renaissance Skydome, in Toronto, for my initial bid of $50, 2 rooms. I read up on the hotel and knew that they had rooms which "looked into" the Skydome. So when we checked in my husband laid on the Southern charm and got us upgraded to the Club level. He jokingly asked the friendly clerk about the Skydome rooms and she put our 3 teens in one of those rooms. They typically went, at that time, for $300+. they have to see parts of 2 different baseball games and even saw themselves on t.v., looking out of the room. We have always received great view rooms, just for the asking. My husband looks for the clerk with the smile and takes it from there. It is sort of like winning the lottery. Some of my favorites: $34 at the Westin-Houston Galleria- Christmas 2002-just before it was upgraded from 3-4* but after all of the renovations were done. I think the valet parking was more expensive than the room. $75 at the JW Marriott Washington D.C.-Easter 2003-last minute, the hotel was sold out but we still l managed a view of the Washington Monument $79 at the Venetian just before Memorial Day 2002-a strip view and one of the rooms a double/double $75 at the like new St. Louis Renaissance-New Years 2003 $60 at the Hyatt in San Antonio-New Years 2002-with a view of the Alamo $50 at the Renaissance in Sonoma-one of the all time best rooms even though only a 3* We are so spoiled that it is almost painful when we have to pay a normal discounted rate at a hotel because of a convention or because Priceline is not available. After our Hawaii trip next month ($139 for the Waikiki Mariott) our next Priceline trip is to New York and after checking the Manhatten hotel rates, even on Priceline, we decided to stay at one of the board favorites, the Hyatt in Jersey City. Hopefully our luck will hold out and we will love it as much as others do. I fear, however, that we will not see the wonderful bargains of the past again. Many of my favorites no longer seem to participate in Priceline, or, if they do, their rates are much higher. Hotels also don't seem to give far reaching inventory to Priceline as many of my best deals were booked months in advance. I've been trying for Philadelphia for Memorial Day weekend with no luck, so far. I am so greateful for boards like this one and for the great vacations we have had-thanks to lots of research and luck!
  12. Had bid several times up to $55 with no counter offer. Last time only 3 days before. Today $55 worked for 2 rooms. Happy to have this locked down since it is the beginning of Memorial Day weekend. Hotwire has what seems to be this property for $76-$81. Thanks for the great site! Will be checking out the posts you have about this area.
  13. Stayed here for 1 night over the July 4th weekend. Got this on a bid of $58 and was expecting the Renaissance Waverly as it frequently appears and is a great value. While we were not unpleased with our stay at the Marietta Resort & Conference Center, it does not compare favorably with the Waverly. The common areas are 4* quality and include onsite golf course (looked good and appeared busy), tennis courts, and a nice pool area, along with a good restaurant. The rooms are another matter. We all thought they were, at best, a lower 3*. The mattresses and pillows were just cheap and not very comfortable. The bathroom was nothing special with a very shallow tub and the room and bath were quite small. We did have a nice view of the golf course and no maintenance issues. Nothing was dirty or broken, just appeared that they cut corners everywhere they could on the quality of the furnishings. However, if you are interested in a southern, small-town experience you might enjoy staying here as it is slightly off the beaten track, but only about 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta. The Resort is on an elevation that allows for a great view of the countryside. It is only about a mile to the Marietta Square where there are nice, small, local shops and restaurants and even a small museum dedicated to Gone With The Wind. There is also a historic home onsite at the resort that is used for parties and weddings. If you have Brunch on Sunday they were offering complimentary carriage rides. The Resort was not busy while we were there but didn't seem to have a lot of experience with Priceline as it took the desk a long time to find our reservation, but that just could have been his inexperience. All staff were pleasant but most times there was no one around at the front entrance for valet and baggage as there usually is for a 4*. There is plenty of free convenient parking in the front of the resort.
  14. New to this board and noticed that you did not have a listing for this property. Booked this on 3/31/04 on the first bid. This was a Thursday evening before Memorial Day weekend. Renaissance Lodge at Sonoma 1325 Broadwy Sonoma, CA 95476 707-935-6600 Really nice property about 1 mile from the downtown plaza in Sonoma. Located on a busy street across from a school but we didn't notice any street noise. Room had a gas fireplace and balcony. Bath had a soaking tub and separate shower and toilet. Robes in the closet and even bath salts for the tub. Didn't try the restaurant but it was busy even though we arrived late. Close to several wineries we enjoyed visiting. I was even able to add my Marriott Rewards number and confirm a room request for non-smoking king by e-mail. Would rate this a 3.5 at least. Good value. Might even pay full price to stay here and I am a Priceline addict.
  15. Accepted on first bid. Expecting the Waverly. Particulars: Marietta Conference Center and Resort 500 Powder Springs Street Marietta, GA 30064 770-427-2500 Has good reviews on trip advisor and website says they have a golf course.
