  1. The above are "retail" rates as well as likely include a drop-off charge. (which is why they seem expensive)

You can still bid for this stay by following the above and then clicking the NAME YOUR OWN PRICE button on the top left corner of the rate grid. (on the next page confirm that the correct pickup/dropoff locations are shown)

Unfortunately PRICELINE is a bit vague on one-way rentals, citing:So it's not entirely clear if your bid should, or would, include the drop off charge. Short of getting a definitive answer from PRICELINE (i'd use email so you have 'proof' down the road should you encounter a problem) i would error on the side of caution and assume that your bid would not include the drop-off charge... the above may be written for places like Florida where many one-way rentals do NOT incur a drop-off fee.

    just to clear up...

    I booked directly through dollar.co.uk

There are no one way fees, (emailed for confirmation on this).

  2. Yes you can...

    1) Click this link to PRICELINE

    2) click "rental cars" on the top left corner of the page

    3) fill out the form, but after selecting SFO as your depature airport rental location, click the blue link "My pick-up and drop-off locations are different" which will give you an additional search box to enter the drop-off location of Las Vegas

    Any questions/problems let us know.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

    ah, ok, i got there.

It prices shown seem very expensive, -

    eg

    dollar = $156/week

    but $883 total

I believe it's for the one way drop off charge.

how much should i bid? and will that include the drop of charge?

I dont want to bid for example $15 and get the car , then be hit later with the drop off charge.

    Regards

  5. thereuare,

the 4 star hotel on hotwire suits, but not at that price, just yet. :)

If you bid 3.5* on PRICELINE you'll probably get Sheraton Delfina or Marriott Marina del Rey. Mapquest says they're 3.7 miles apart.

i'd prefer to go this way first.

I'd prefer the Sheraton due to its location, but the marriott marina is well reveiwed and the location would not be too bad.

So, i should go with the bidding strategy offered by thereuare?

    Select 3.5*...

    Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

    Select 3.5* and re-bid zone2...

    Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

    Bid $85

    Thanks

  6. ok, i did the hotwire check wrong!

there are properties on there, i'll get back to you.

    Thanks.

ok, so there are 3 properties on hotwire in the 'Santa Monica - Venice - Marina Del Rey Hotel' area.

    4 star

near beach, smoke free rooms, fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center, high speed internet access - $175 which is probably sheraton delfina.

    2 star

complimentary breakfast, pool - $73 = Ramada Limited Marina del Rey.

    3 star

ocean front, complimentary breakfast, business center, high speed internet access, golf nearby, tennis nearby.

what could this one be? it doesnt match anything on the hotwire list...

    Thanks again.

  7. I'll leave it for somebody else more local than i am to comment on driving distances and the 'feel' of the Sanata Monica area, but will add that if you really want the marina del rey area, HOTWIRE may be a better option

It's actually the santa monica area i'd prefer, but i take it the same advice about hotwire applies?

I just did a hotwire check, and there are no properties showing at present for santa monica - Marina del rey.

hmm, i'll wait on advice about Marina del rey.

i've left a question on Trip Advisor too, and one poster told me to check you guys out! :-)

we'll see what happens, i have a back up booked, and time is on our side.

    Thank you.

  8. Keep in mind the Priceline zone includes Marina Del Rey and you could win a 3.5* hotel that's not in Santa Monica.

yeah, i had considered that, it seems SM to MDR is about 10 - 20 mins drive away depending on traffic.

we will have a rental car.

I would prefer SM, as i'm driving for a few days before, during and after these 3 days, and i'm sure i'd appreciate the break.

But if i'm to use PL, then it's a chance i'll have to take, because MDR hotels are in all the star rating categorys.

If I do get a hotel in MDR, then i think it wont be too bad, as it's a short drive to SM.

    Does all that sound correct?

    Thanks.

  9. hello.

dates - check in 10th June, check out 13th June 2010.

I want to stay in Santa Monica.

    I have bid as follows.....

    4 star

    $115 unsuccessful - add rebid zone 1

    $120 unsuccessful - add rebid zone 2

    $135 unsuccessful - add rebid zone 3

    $140 - unsuccessful.

    I will lower the * rating to 3.5* - 2 rebid zones.

what would be a sensible starting price?

    does this look ok?

bid $70 - add rebid zone 1 (culver city)

bid $75 - add rebid zone 2 (lawndale)

    bid $80.

    then rethink if unsuccessful.

    Thanks again!

  10. Priceline used to offer 4* bidding in Santa Monica-Marina Del Rey zone, and they stopped. The "4* bidding no longer offered" comment was added to the Priceline Hotel List at that time.

For a long period, I think a couple years, 3* was the highest level offered in SM/MDR.

Last fall Priceline introduced a 3.5* bidding option, and the Sheraton Delfina and Marriott MDR were upgraded from 3* to 3.5*.

About a month ago Priceline reintroduced 4* bidding in the zone. So far noone has reported a 4* win in the zone.

Hotel Oceana, Marriott's Le Merigot, and Loew's Santa Monica are all rated 4* in Priceline's retail listings. Probably the new opaque 4* is one of those three.

The "4* bidding no longer offered" comment should probably be edited out of the Hotel List, as it's no longer true.

Hi, is this statement still true?

from the priceline hotel list - oceana is a 3star in santa barbara and le merigot isnt mentioned?

I would like to bid on the santa monica beach hotel, and i will start my own thread, but i need to know if the above is correct.

    Thanks.

  11. $78

    Very happy with this. :)

    i bid $60 added rebid zone 1

then $65 added rebid zone 2

then $70 added rebid zone 3

then $75 added rebid zone 4

    then $78 - successful.

    $280 total

we wanted this hotel, and had booked it as a cancellable backup for this...

    Discounted Avg. Daily Rate:

    $229.25

    Discounted Room Cost: $687.75

    Occupancy $106.60

    Total Room Cost: $794.35

a ridiculous saving of about $525

can you put this one the calendar of wins please.

    Thanks again guys!!

    :)

  12. My bid at $120 was succesfull.

The Roosevelt Hotel New York 45Th And Madison Avenue.

any opinions on this hotel, location looks good, but the reveiws on trip advisor are mixed!.

well, it is what it is, i'm sure it'll be fine.

We've made a saving, thanks for your help and advice.

Do i need to add this to the calendar of wins? or change the title or anything else?

    Thanks again.

  13. thanks for the advice JB and Haider.

At this point in time what is your maximum bid?

At what point (time and our bid amount) do you consider lower rated hotels and/or other zones... or would you then prefer your backup at the Pod?

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

    Hi Thereuare,

at this stage, I'm going to bid for 3.5 star, maximum bid $120.

can i have a strategy for this please

    cheers.

  14. Board moderator thereuare will be back in a few days and is not currently available to offer a strategy.

After looking at what is available and considering the amount of time in advance, I would start bidding for a 3.5* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB... at $85 and work higher using re-bidding, although please do be careful when re-bidding. When searching, I'm seeing 3* as the highest level available in LIC, UES & Chelsea, although please do check again before bidding.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases.

    I did this.......

Select 3.5* MTE, MTW, CPS, ESB and MSG...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone 1

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone 2

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone 3

    Bid $100.

I'll have to wait another 24 hours to bid again.

    Am I missing anything?

  15. I don't think there's any re-bid zones at the 3* level. You could try bidding for a 3.5*, but I'm guessing a realistic starting bid would still be at the $90 level, given the late Spring period.

Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.

yeah sorry, i meant the next star rating down from 4 star, so yeah 3.5 star.

chelsea, long island and upper east side are only rebid zones for 3.5 star, is that correct?

can i have a strategy for this please?

    Thanks
