  1. My room, at least, was certainly large enough to have a rollaway, perhaps even 2. But as noted, the net effect was if you want 2 beds, pay an extra $50 per night.
  2. Between 22 Aug and 24 Aug - see details. - Typical Hilton hotel, nothing spectular. - Good location. - A small-ish room, but not next to elevators or ice machine, so it's fairly quiet. - Stayed on the 20th floor. - The hotel was quite full, especially on 23 Aug when a Harley 9-11 ride from other states stayed that night. It was cool, as many cops were part of the ride, they all stayed at the hotel. Never felt that safe in a hotel! :) - Not a member of HHonors, but still OK. Nothing to complain about, but nothing outstanding either. Will I stay there again? Probably, the price was good, the location was excellent.
  3. Here're the details of the deal. Quick Summary - Bad check-in queue. OK it's around noon (official check-in time was 3pm). There was only 1 agent, which eventually got up to 3 when the queue got up to 20+. The agent was quite happy to tell the queue that we were almost 'wrong' to check in that early. Not that the check-out queue was that much better anyway. - Lots of hidden charges - $3 per night for an energy surcharge and a $1 per night local phone charge. Given the price I'd the room for, it's OK, but it's the principle of the thing. I stayed at Bally's just before I moved, no hidden charges there. (By 'hidden', I mean the charges weren't mentioned in the Priceline deal, but signs were displayed about it inside the hotel. At the end, I didn't have time to argue about them when I checked out. - OK room, with a great view of the Stratosphere. - Cheap food (even by Vegas standard). - Good hotel for families. Will I stay there again? Probably not. I'll pay a little more and stay further south, where the location is better and hotels are better.
  4. I got this hotel from Priceline. Here're the details of the deal. Quick summary: - Funky place, cool interior design, especially in the lobby. - Good location, W 55th and 6th. Plenty of places to eat nearby. - No view though, since the building is squashed in amongst many. - Free Internet access at the Business Centre (1 PC). - Good service overall - friendly and efficient. I'd a problem with my phone one night. I went down to the lobby to report it and check my email in the business centre (all up 5 minutes). By the time I got back to the room, an engineer was already there fixing it. - The room I got was relatively large and quiet (maybe except the air-conditioner). - Managed to 'lose' my laundry. When it didn't turn up when it should have (that night), I called. At first, they couldn't find it. After a few hours, they finally located it (it wasn't sent to the washer the previous day). At least they hurried it up and did it in a few hours (I was scheduled to leave that day). They discounted the laundry by 50% as a result. Would I stay there again? Yes, probably.
  5. No special links used. Went straight to Priceline.co.uk. I don't think there're any bonus monies for Priceline UK anymore.
  6. I've been trying for this on and off for weeks... Then I realised this is the weekend before the US Open starts, so I better get moving... Plus, I was getting a bit sick of it anyway... :) I was wanting a rate of around $65 - $80 if possible... After looking (thanks!) and asking lots of stupid questions here (thanks again!) and looking at Hotwire, I know I can get something around $85 a night... All bids at 4* 1st Bid: MTW
  7. Yesterday I emailed the hotel asking for a twin room (i.e., 2 beds). Today, they emailed me saying there'll be a surcharge of $50 per night! Can they do that? :) Frankly, I'm surprised and don't want to pay. I thought the agreement is for 1 room, I should be able to specify the type of room...? Some advice is appreciated. Since I can't cancel (and I'll still be staying there), I want to write something back to them. If nothing else, just tell them to forget the extra person...? Thanks.
  8. I guess it started off as a curiosity thing. I haven't seen a 1* on Priceline or Hotwire until now... Now, I'm slightly obsessed with it... :) I'm losing the bigger picture... After I posted last night, I'd a quick look around the various areas in NYC. There're cheap 4* going, but none as low as you mentioned. Care to share your strategy? (I haven't had time to play too much on Priceline. I currently within my 72-hour lock out... Yes, I've seen the post on re-bidding within 72 hours.) Thanks. :o
  9. This is what prompted my original question... I'm trying to compare this list with an approximate with Priceline and a list from Travelocity... Here's a list of hotels I found on Hotwire (22 Aug to 24 Aug), Midtown Central, NYC. 1*, boutique, no other amenities = $84 2*, restaurant = $111 2.5*, restaurant, business center = $120 3*, boutique, no other amenities = $120 3.5*, restaurant, fitness centre, hi-speed Internet, business centre = $104 4*, customer favourite, restaurant, fitness centre, business centre, spa = $122 4.5*, boutique, restaurant, fitness centre, business centre = $179 (Inter-Continential???) Hotwire's description for 1* (Motel) does include private bathrooms, but not sure about Priceline... I think it's Priceline that you can't promise a bathroom at any level... If this 1* has a private bathroom, it's not necessarily a bad deal. The rest of them don't look too bad either. Any guesses as to what the rest of them are?
  10. (I don't know whether this is the right place, especially since this applies to both Hotwire and Priceline in NYC. Feel free to move it to a more appropriate place.) Do all hotels/motels on Hotwire and Priceline have private bathrooms/toilets regardless of * rating? I've seen a couple of 1* hotels on Hotwire, which are also marked as 'boutique'... Thanks.

  12. The reason I said prices may be further lowered closed to the time was a conclusion I drew from reading various posts on winning bids. Those prices always seem very low. Obviously, the time of posting doesn't necessarily equate to the time of winning the bid, so there's one problem with my conclusion. Plus your arguments are also very valid. I guess hotel inventory isn't much different from airline seat inventory. Sell the lower priced ones first, then gradually increase your price closer to the 'departure'.
  13. Thanks for posting that. It'll help with my upcoming trip to Vegas. One question though - how do you know you've been upgraded even if they say you've and they've taken your money? 'They'll only take your money if they can upgrade you' doen't seem too reliable to me. :) :)
  14. I've been thinking about this (and read various stuff here and elsewhere), and can see pros and cons for each technique. I'm interested in what you think and which you prefer... Pros for bidding far in advance + More time to play with various bids + More time to research + Don't need a '100% refundable' booking just in case Cons (Pros for bidding close to your date) - Hotels may be keen to fill last minute vacancies and lower their price - Allow your plans to change - You may need a lot of time to play around Thoughts?
  15. Hello Resident PriceLine Experts, Some advice will be most appreciated... My uncle and I will be visiting Vegas in July (him from LA and me from the UK). Well actually, by then, I'll join him in LA then drive to Vegas. Anyway, he'll only join me for a weekend and Monday and I want to stay for an extra day or two afterwards. Here're some questions: - Under normal circumstances (i.e., normal booking of hotels), this will most probably be 2 separate bookings. Should I take that as 2 separate bids? I understand prices for Vegas hotel are a lot higher in the weekend than during the week. If I make it as one bid, will the price work out to be higher than 2 bids (due to the weekend)? On the other hand, if it's one bid, will the price be lower since the booking will be longer? - I recall from Priceline UK that you specify how many rooms you want, but not how many people. How do they know I want a room with 2 beds? (I'd a look around Help and this site, but can't seem to find this question. I thought it'll be common enough...) Thanks.
