based on Hotwire's availability there is a 3.5* at $107, a 3* (Wingate) at $105, and a 2* for $40. If you do a search for 3 adults (the above was for 2) a 3.5* is $143 (Sheraton Suites), a 3* for 113 (Wingate) but a new 2.5* appears at $65(might be the Clarion) and the same 2* at $40.
a package search with air&hotel on priceline for 11/8 & 9 shows the Crowne Plaza available but at $460 for 2 nights with the air. The La Quinta west is $316. The difference is $144 or $72 a night. Since the La Quinta will win for this date at $33-35 that makes the CP in the $90 to $95 range since the packages usually have some markup in them (the CP might be the HW 3.5* at $107)
so based on this I wouldn't bid for a 3* yet but if you want something now go for a 2* at $33 and if that doesn't work wait the 72 hours and do a 2* at $35. You'll ge the LQ west.
you can always try EasyClickTravel. The Marriott ($70??), Sheraton Suites and Wingate participate. They are fully cancellable with 72 hours notice in case some 3*'s open up later on Priceline. This way you can relax for a few months.
based on a package for 2 nights (8/21-22) both La Quintas are available as is the 3* Holiday Inn Select. Hotwire has a 3* that could be the Holiday Inn for $60 so I think you'll need to be in the mid 40's to win. If you drop to 2*, both La Quinta's have shuttles and I'd guess you could win those at $35
Since you have 6 tries, with rebids, at the 3* I'd start at $40 then use the rebids at $42, 45, 47, 49 and 50.
for the 31st I'd try a 2* at $33. If that doesn't work wait the 72 hours and try $35.

the Amerisuites is available on HOTWIRE for $66, The Hyatt Pier 66 is $140. You can probably bid $50-55 for the Amerisutes and win on Priceline. It's a 2.5* and a great location for the Port.
The word rack is now a "bad" word in the hotel business. Holiday Inn no longer uses the term and Hampton Inn's use just the "best available" term. Rack has always been an inflated number so when you get your "aaa, aarp, corporate" discount you feel there was some value in it.
ps answer was Gaylord's best price for the 6/4 arrival on the roomtype they normally give to Hotwire/Priceline guests.
how about what kind of savings -vs- best available rate since no one pays rack rate (at least I hope not) or for that matter sticker price on a car.
ps answer is $199 for the type of room hotwire gets at the hotel. So 40% off before tax ain't bad.

Bid this late Saturday. This hotel is located next to the Extended Stay America that I got from Hotwire for the same weekend. Both are less than 4 miles to Universal and in a business park under developement.
Started at $25 but was rejected, added Airport area (acceptable to me for this stay) and $27 and won.

Purchased a few days ago and was disappointed to win the Circus Circus but I took one for the board. Went to circuscircus.com and found a lower rate so filed a double the difference claim. Refunded $16.20 (Hotwire claims all HW gets receive "Tower rooms" so based on the $46.95 rate) the refund was $4.05 x 2 x 2 nights.
It's for a cheapo friend going to a convention so he is happy. He had a $69 room at the Sahara (aka Sahorrible).
