  1. I started bidding on JFK area 3* at $76 = rejected

added Bayside (free zone) at $88 = rejected

added Elmherst (free zone) and moved bid down to $76 = rejected

I realize it's not smart to offer less, but it was a same day reservation so i thought what the heck.

    Bad strategy.

Went to book the "backup" that i had found on Hotwire (3* @$119) and it was no longer available.

So after studying this message board, I went back to Priceline

    JFK 3* $99 = ACCEPTED

    Doubletree Hotel JFK Airport

    135-30 140th Street

    Jamaica, New York 11436

    718-322-2300

Trip insurance purchased for $5, Total Charges $129.14

Doubletree and Expedia websites show best rate of $229.00 for tonight.

I USED YOUR LINKS TO GET TO BOTH PRICELINE AND HOTWIRE

Thank you for hosting this great service and all the great advice that you give!

  2. Absolutely loved my one night stay at the Beverly Hilton. Decor is very nice but it is not pretentious at all. The staff was wonderful. Restaurants are pricey - $20 each for a couple of eggs - there are many other options within walking distance though if you have the time (including starbucks across the street and jamba juice a few blocks down santa monica.) I used the fitness center and it was about what you would expect, a few treadmills and weight machines. The pool looked great, long enough to swim laps. We did request a wake up call that never came so set the alarm clock if that is a concern for you. I will definately stay there again.

  3. Hi- this thread caught my eye as a Houstonian and wanted to throw in my $.02

The Holiday Inn isn't that far from Greenway Plaza in distance, but it would be a pretty hairy walk along the feeder of hwy 59 (busy and dirty and tons of traffic). Also, the main red cross branch that helps katrina victims is inbetween the two hotels so there is quite a bit of loitering in the area. My husband went to a breakfast at the HI about a year ago and said it is pretty run down. That was just the restaurant though, he didn't the rooms.

I use to work in an office building owned by Crecent Real Estate and they always advertised rooms for $59 (or $69 with breakfast) at the Renaissance for building tenants. You might be able to work that somehow.

If that doesn't work I would also recommend staying in the galleria area as opposed to the Medical Center/Astrodome. They really are about equidistant from Greenway. It would probably take 5 or 10 min max from the Intercontinental. Get a rental car if possible. Cabs are scarce and scary.

    Good Luck!

  4. Thank you so much for your suggestion and to Wyndham!

I just called and spoke to a very nice customer service representative. After explaining that the webrate is now lower, she agreed to refund my $122 charge and give me the $108 rate!

    What a great company!

  5. I went to the Wyndham site one last time before trying Priceline and their webrate had dropped to $122 (it has been $199 the past few days) so I just booked through them. We are going for a wedding and really didn't want to stay anywhere else. I do appreciate your help and will definately use your site in the future and refer others to it. Thanks again!

  6. One thing though- doesn't priceline consider the St. Anthony a 3*?

I think I might do $55 for a 3* to see if that works. Then if I have to add a zone I'll go up to 4* (but won't do the West zone).

So, none of the zones- besides West and Downtown- have any 4* or resorts?

  7. Thank you!

Yes, It is in the DT San Antonio and Riverwalk zone. Sorry I wasn't clear before. We both looked on Hotwire for Downtown/Riverwalk hotels and she booked I described.

I agree- bad idea and misleading.

The only reason I was thinking that it was the Emily Morgan instead of the Sheraton Gunther is that the Gunther is $111 on Expedia and the 3.5star on Hotwire is $116. Wouldn't the Expedia rate be higher?

  8. I am looking to book the St. Anthony for the night of 6/5/04 on hotwire. There is a 3.5 star with restaurant, pool, fitness center, and business center that is a boutique that I thought might be the St. A, but based on this HOTWIRE POST I think it is probably the Emily Morgan.

There is a 4 star with restaurant, pool, fitness center, high speed internet access, business center, golf nearby, tennis nearby, and spa services that my friend booked (for the same night) and it is the Marriot Plaza.

There is also a 4.5 star with restaurant, pool, fitness center, and business center that I think might be the Westin (based on your post)

I know that the St. Anthony has a business center and restaurant so I wonder why those were not listed as amenities when you booked? Maybe they have updated their records since last year? If anyone has any input, I would appreciate it. Thank you
