  2. Hi, Hotwire is offering a 5* Midtown Central airea hotel 3/26-29 for $178 (normal rate $564). Limited amenities are listed: intenet access, fitness center and business center. Gets an 85% recommendation. The only other interesting point is that they charge a 'resort' fee of $38.10 in addition to the Hotwire rate. Any ideas? Thanks!

  4. Thanks for the great sleuthing - much to my chagrin, I got sidetracked with family sports event viewing today and missed the cut off for cancelling my HI res without penalty - so there I'll be this time, which is fine, I stayed there once before and it suit the bill. Yes, I found your support page, which is great with links to all of the major travel sites - very helpful and makes BB a one stop website :) Kudos to you all for the great work you do - it's much appreciated.
  5. I've got a back up (which can be cancelled by tomorrow) at a decent rate for a Holiday Inn on West 31st street, but am still looking at some of the offerings via your HOTWIRE link and am intrigued by a couple. 6. New dates and trying again to identify a few hotels. Dates 2/4-2/7 Looks like there's a pretty decent selection for those dates. Any ideas on any of the below? 7. Thanks for investigating - but dates for the trip just got changed, so it's back to the drawing board!
  8. Hi, I've found a 4* midtown east availability 1/29-2/1 for $92 per night with 80% like - and the following amenities: FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower Any guesses? I use your HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for checking. If it is the Sheraton, it's a little far away from where I needed to be and since it's just one night, I decided to book directly and got a decent rate at the Monaco which is just a block away. I'll try again next trip using your links for HOTWIRE and PRICELINE.
  10. Hi - found this listing on Hotwire for Downtown Denver arrival 1/21, departure 1/22. 4* regular rate $199, Hotwire rate $96. 85% customer recommended. Amenities: Pet friendly Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Internet access In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Thanks!
  11. You made a very good guess! :) The NY Palace it is - and when I went back to book, the rate had lowered to $136 per night. Seems like a pretty darn good deal for this hotel.
  12. Sorry! They list it as $138 (down from $299) per night from 12/15-12/18
  13. Hi, I found the following: Midtown East 4 1/2 * 85% Customer recommended Amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Internet access Spa Services Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Any ideas? 14. It was a very nice hotel - and their complimentary shuttle made getting around town quite easy. Was quite pleased - and the hotel was full.
  15. It's not exactly downtown per se, but it'll do for our needs and a short stay. Won the Silver Cloud Stadium 9/12-9/14. Started bids using your PRICELINE link at $90 and added $5 increments until got Silver Cloud Stadium for $140. I'm a huge baseball fan and it's directly across from Safeco Field - although the Mariners won't be in town then (which is probably why I got it :) ) Claims to be close to the light rail which is good.
  16. Couch won this time. Will try again on the next trip. It's a very busy time in NYC and didn't want to split on this trip, although would consider it on another. Thanks for your help though!
  17. I patiently worked my way through the entire suggested bid scheme (thank you for that!) but with no success. It's easier when I know I have a friend's couch as a back up. When I got to the $185 bid though, I got an offer asking me to increase my bid by $74 to $259 and there would be a 'very good' chance that a bid of that amount would be accepted. Needless to say I declined. Continued on up through $198 with no luck. I'll give it a couple of more tries before I relegate myself to the couch :)
  18. Hi - I was wondering if you would be able to propose a bidding strategy for a stay in NYC from 6/8-12? I'm interested in a 4* in MTE,ESB,Chelsea,MTW,CPS or MSG and would like to give a go for max room rate of $190 plus fees. I know it's a tough time, so I may end up bringing it down to 3.5* or 3*. Thanks very much!
  19. I use PRICELINE fairly often and I have to agree with what thereuare said - there have been quite a few significant changes very recently from my pov. But it's still a great deal when it works :)
  20. Thanks. You're right - there seem to have been quite a few changes recently, even just in NYC judging from my current search. For instance, in addition to what you mention about the 5* in ESB, they now seem to offer 4 1/2* AND 5* options in the CPS, Downtown, MTE, TSQ and UES zones. I think I remember seeing a 5* option on TSQ a while ago, but the rest of the zones on the 5* list are all a first time appearance for me. I wonder if these are new properties or if Pricleine is re-rating a bunch of existing properites suddenly? The only 5* on the BB list in Manhattan that I could see was for the Waldorf Towers. And I saw no 4 1/2* properties listed on the BB list for NYC. I'd be curious to find out what these properties are - but only curious up to a certain price :)
  21. I have stayed at the Verve in LIC and it's a very clean, well run property, close to the elevated and 'regular' subway lines and a short ride to Manhattan. The neighborhood seemed to be safe BUT it's semi industrial/residential and parts of it are somewhat desolate at night which might be a bit disconcerting. If it's your first trip to New York and you want to experience a lot of the things you mention in your first post, I'd try to get a place in Manhattan for the convenience and the first time experience of the city. When you're an old timer like me, you can save a few bucks by staying in Manhattan 'adjacent' :D
  22. I just started to bid for a 4* stay in NYC 4/19-23 and it seems that there are now only two 'free' rebidding zones. My old standbys like LES, UES, Queensboro Bridge and Coney Island no longer seem to be options. Is this a new change or just a bug with their system today? Thanks!
  23. Don't know if this was proper place to post (please feel free to delete or move if not) - but the hotel was very nice. However, if there were such a thing as a 3.75* hotel, I think I'd give it that as opposed to 4*. Compared to the other 4* hotels I've stayed at in NYC it's just slightly below, overall. Great staff, wonderful old NY feeling to lobby, rooms on the small side.
  24. Booking a last minute trip to NYC arrving tomorrow 1/29 and departing 2/1. Used your PRICELINE link and started with Midtown East bidding at $75 per night. Added rebid zones and won the Roosevelt for $100. I was a little surprised as I've walked by this hotel many times and never thought it was 4*, but I'm happy to be convinced otherwise. I'll report back after my stay.
