  1. you have plenty of time on your side. get yourself a backup res and keep trying on a daily basis. obviously, no inventory has been given to PL at this time. that can change any day! when i went 3 weeks ago i had to try almost 2 weeks without success. then one day i started getting much lower counters and ended up getting Palazzo.
  2. the wife and i stayed at Palazzo 2 weeks ago and it was fabulous - well worth the few extra bucks!! i am going back in may (see above). my bro wanted to stay @ Bally's which looks like an utter 'dump' compared to these places. i talked him into grudgingly accepting Venetian!! ( @ total out of pocket cost of $100 more over 3 nights split 4 ways- not much really!!)
  3. if my pricing model is correct and your weekend day is 'priced' as per the previous you should pay $158, ( see my win from yesterday @ Venetian)
  4. here goes: due to BIL leaving late on the 12th we decided on 2 rooms for the 10th and 11th and 1 room on the 12th. since PL doesn't allow adding a day on only 1 room of a 2 room res i bid this out separately, first the 2 night res figuring that the rate could be higher as only 1 weeknight (sun) paired with a weekend (sat) vs 2 weeknights (sun & mon) on the 3 night res. By bidding them separate but minutes apart, i accepted the risk of ending up at BOTH Venetian and Palazzo. 2 night res (5/10-5/12) i started at 120 and was countered 166. went up in small increments until 130 and then 1 by 1 until accepted @ $149. i was continually countered with either 166 or a chance to raise bid by $22. 3 night res (5/10-5/13) i started at 125 and was countered with 162. went up in small increments until 130 and then 1 by 1 until accepted @ $146. i was continually countered with either 162 or a chance to raise bid by$22. being a bit of a numbers nut and since i got the lowest accepted price on both res i thought i would figure out what the difference between weekend nights (fri-sat) vs weeknights was. using 2 variables with 2 equations and solving algebraically i got the followig. let A = weekend let B = weekday using 1st res, A+B = 149 + 149=298 using 2cond res, A+2B = 146+146+146 =438 A=298-B 298-B +2B=438 B=438-298 B=140 and then A=158 so week end nights in my example cost $158 and weekday nights cost $140. this debunks the thought that PL will charge the highest daily fee for a res as the lowest acceptable price.
  5. quick note ( i will post my winning bids in a little while) i just bid the same nights as you are looking for and got $146 per night accepted. this was the absolute lowest price as $145 was rejected. so if you are willing to pay this i suggest you do so while the rooms are still available at that rate. i also got the same counter offers. if you attempt to underbid it first, ignore the offers to rebid for $22 more. it is just a ploy to get you to pay more!
  6. i have bid a number of times on priceline successfully using these sites to develop a bidding strategy. i believe i have never paid more than a few dollars over what the lowest acceptable bid would be. i am quite surprised that priceline would accept a bid with the wrong security code. that would be like someone getting ahold of your credit card number and guessing a 3 digit code (or 4 for my amex). if you challeneged the charge you would probably succeed as the code was wrong. (providing you didn't actually use the res!) Palazzo is a great hotel as i was just there 2 weeks ago and my wife is still raving that it was the best place she has ever stayed at! that is one great testament coming from someone who is not easily impressed!!
  7. QUITE a bit better! when i bid last month for 2/13 for 3 nights i was countered @ 188 and bid by $1 increments using the free rebids available (over 22 IIRC) was rejected @ 148 and accepted @149. i am also looking for 3 nights from 5/10 in a 4 or 5* and was just countered with 185(includes a weekend night). i would expect success anywhere from 139-155 based on what has been winning lately. with these nice prices i sure wish by bro-in-law would make up his mind so i know if i need 1 or 2 rooms!
  8. with a counter of $157 you probably could get the 5* for dollars above your last bid, doubtful more than 145. just came back from Palazzo (@149/night) and it was fabulous! those are great rates!
  9. Sheraton - Metairie $72 12/25/07-12/28/07 2 rooms bid same day (12/25) rejected @ 69 or 70, accepted @72. i am posting this better late than never as i was charged by both priceline and the hotel. the sheraton told me that priceline's credit card didn't go through so they charged my CC. the offer was for $72 for 3 nights, 2 rooms for a total of $432 taxes/fees 78.34 total 510.34 priceline was charged EXACTLY $480.30. i did get the charges reversed but, i was a bit surprised at the spread between what i paid priceline and what they paid for the rooms. i only overpaid by a max of $2 per room per night. their pricing structure of what they need to make per res or room may have changed quite a bit!
  10. My Priceline Palazzo Las Vegas win. i stayed 2/13-2/16 which included a fri night. winning bid was $149/night (rejected up to 148 with counters in i think 188 range) i am currently trying for 5/10-5/13 in a 4* for 2 rooms hoping for a PH deal. i have been bidding 44-60 with no success so far. counters have been coming down a bit from 103 to 95. based on recent wins that is probably the Luxor. we have a back up ressie @ Ballys(my bros fav NOT mine!) . i am toying with the idea of trying to get the 4 of us in a single room 5*(Palazzo/Venetian) but the bedding might be an issue. 5/10 seems to have the lowest res prices for the saturdays in may so i am hopeful they will toss some rooms our way but there are no guarantees shopping this way. only excess inventory gets deeply discounted and there is no way to tell if it will happen or not.
  11. why? you have PLENTY of time left! i just came back from the Palazzo which was fabulous. i kept getting rejected until 2 weeks before. get yourself a good backup reservation at a 4* and keep bidding. something probably will turn up at a more reasonable rate.
  12. congrats on getting the lowest price to date (BY FAR) at this property!!
  13. use strip north in all your bids. the sleeper sofas are noted but there is an * by it. please check the individual hotel sites and read this yourself before deciding to bid!
  14. if you end up at the Venetion or Palazzo they both indicate that their suites have either a king or 2 queens plus a pullout sleeper sofa. i may be using this type of arrangement when my brother, brother in law and myself take my newly 21 year old son to Vegas in may.
  15. using 4* many people have 'won' planet hollywood over recent months with bids of 45-60 though recently have seen 60-70. you have time and i would bid daily using these prices as rough guides. remember to make a list of all bid combos utilizing free rebids. you will get many more chances by using completely new bids as opposed to just adding a zone!
  16. if they countered with 188, you should be able to get it probably for 170 or less. be sure to organize your free bids. when i bid the other day for a 5* i had about 22 combinations using only 3 zones at a time. more are available if you go to 4 or 5.zones bid together.
  17. no, i told her but she doesn't have a clue about these places. we haven't been to vegas in 20 years! since i saved a bundle i will try the "trick" at check in to get upgraded. also got a full size rental from priceline for $17/day plus junk fees
  18. i bid $15- $16(rejected) for a full size for several days for a LAS rental 2/13-16. i upped bid to $17 and it was accepted.
  19. 2/13 - 2/16 began bidding today @140, rejected up through 148. Accepted @ $149!! wife will be quite surprised!!
