1. While I do agree with you that the boundaries depicted on the map are what defines the area, I believe that the inclusion of an area like this in a downtown category is purposefully misleading. Infact, at the time this happened I searched other cities across the United States with similar population sizes and not one of them combined downtown with another area. It was simply "Tampa-downtown", "Boston-downtown", "Milwaukee-downtown" and so on and so on. Your point (which was the same as PL's point) was never my point. My point is their boundaries should be changed to reflect a downtown area and perhaps another one for a metro area as they do for every other city. Why is Nashville any different? It is misleading. This is further influenced by the fact that the desk clerk stated that they even asked PL to not be included in the "downtown" area as customers were arriving disappointed. When this is virtually one of the only cities in the US that pulls from well outside of a downtown area and adds it to their downtown zone, it creates problems. But I digress. I just wanted to post a follow up to reflect that if you ever need PL customer service, don't expect to be heard. If you want to purchase a room and stay in Nashville downtown area, do not use PL. If you do, you might be cabbing it for 10 minutes like me. Lesson learned.
2. I just wanted to add to this post, since it has been a while since I have been on the board. An attempt at any resolution with Priceline got nowhere. I never needed their customer service before. After dealing with them for this particular stay I can tell you that if you ever need them for anything, good luck. Their supervisors read from the same scripts as everyone else and do not seem to care about any concerns. As a deal seeker, I realize that I can't disregard priceline completely and just have to accept this as an issue that can happen when bargain shopping.
3. We made a last minute decision to spend the night in Nashville on the way home. I skimmed through the boards here to get a sense of bidding strategy but I saw high prices on Priceline Express. A four star was $171. I tried bidding up to $110 without luck. I saw a 3 star PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for $105 so I started my bidding at $60. I was prompted to increase my bid to $86. I was declined at 75 and accepted at $78. Knowing that something had to be going on in the city I was pretty satisfied with this deal, that is until I arrived to the hotel. It is among a sea of car dealerships, industrial places and residential. The fact that this hotel is included in a downtown/metro zone is absolutely ridiculous. I have been a customer with PL for ten years now. I've never really had an issue with placement. I did stop bidding on Vegas strip zones because of this board and seeing how far away they can put you sometimes, but then again I know that city very well. When bidding on PL I generally have trust that the grey zone I'm looking at is what they are saying it is. I felt really duped by this one and I called them immediately to express my opinions. Boy did that go nowhere. They all (including supervisors) read from the same cookie cutter script. The supervisor offered to have me look at the zone on my iPad while on the phone to see that I'm wrong and that it is in the shaded zone. That was not my point. My point was and is that their zoning is ridiculous. This hotel and this area should never be included in a downtown/metro zone. Their zoning needs revision to make customers happy. No one I spoke to understood this and simply stated it was in the zone. This hotel I likened to bidding on Magnificent Mile in Chicago and getting a place in Greek Town, it is just that bad. Since I was stuck with the reservation I checked in, reluctantly. The check in agent stated he gets the same complaint all the time from PL customers. He said they have asked not to be included in the zone due to customer complaints. When a supervisor of PL called me the next day I shared this with her, but she had the same cookie cutter script and no understanding as well. I'm not quite done with PL on this one. I'm sending registered letters to PL corporate, both for the zoning issue and with how customer service treats you. This is the down side to PL, but I save too much money to stop using them. I will post here if any resolution is reached.
4. Using rebid zones I started my bidding at $60. This was based on their PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal 4* in the same zone priced at $79. I got rejected up to $69 and accepted at $70. I love these Express Deals they are offering because it gives me a great idea of where to start my bidding. The same hotel booked through the hotel was $140 a night. That is extra money to spend on my trip!
5. I was attempting to get the 3.5 star Sheraton at $45 like so many others have but was rejected after a couple of rebids. I refocused on a 3 star in the same zone. I saw a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for $51 that I assume is this property and just wanted to see if I could get it cheaper. I started my bidding at $29 and after using several rebids was accepted at $42. $40 was rejected. Looks like a decent place to stay and for cheap. I'm happy. I used your PRICELINE link to start my bidding.
6. I was attempting to book two nights, 6/7-6/9 in downtown Milwaukee. I used all rebid zones and was rejected up to $60. Just from looking at Hot.wire prices I could tell it must be a busy weekend in Milwaukee. I decided to secure Sunday night downtown. I started my bidding at $40 and was accepted at $45. I have stayed here before on a Priceline win and was very satisfied. I used your PRICELINE link to start my bidding.
7. I started my PRICELINE bidding at 50 and worked my way up. At 70 I was prompted to raise my bid to 91 so I knew I was close. I ended up winning at 80, which was my last attempt before booking most likely the same property on HOTWIRE. I'm pretty satisfied.
8. Finally a win for this trip... Started my bidding with 3 stars downtown. Bid from 70-90, all rejected. Closed the browser, started bidding for 3 stars in Southside, got up to 90 and then added downtown again to the rebid zones and bid 95. Accepted! Looks like a fun area for our first night. I used the PRICELINE link to start my bidding. Lowest price thru hotel was 179.
9. This was a very busy weekend, the Steelers play Sunday Night Football and there is a huge summit during the coming week. I settled for this reservation after trying and failing many times on Priceline for two stars and up. This is still a great price, all things considered. The best available rate through the hotel is $269. Thanks for all of the help, and I did use your HOTWIRE link.
10. I booked the last 2 nights at the 3 star on HOTWIRE, using your link. I got Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center for the rate of $164. While enjoying my calming drink I realized things are not going to get better if I wait, so I waved the proverbial white flag. I will post this in the Hotwire forum. I do believe I have time to figure out Friday. We are driving now and making a stop at the Hall of Fame in Canton, OH on Friday. We may just stay in a suburb that first night to make up the cost, or pursue a downtown location for one night. Thank you so much for all of your help! I will let you know about that Friday .
11. You won't believe this, but when I entered in my CC info for the 2 star and clicked enter a message came up that availability changes often and the room is no longer available! For the one you thought was Quality Inn. I've been to Las Vegas for New Years, been to high demand Spring Break locations etc and have never experienced something like this. I'm going to regroup with a stiff drink!
12. I edited my post, I meant to say South Side. The amenities are free parking, free Internet and fitness center. Hotwire 65% satisfaction and 3/5 on Tripadvisor. I was starting to bid on 2 stars using different combinations with two rebid zones. For downtown and North Shore I got as high as 140, then did just those two areas with split bids for the last 2 days as high as 175. All rejected. I got as high as 130 for University Center and even tried Green Tree as high as 115. I stopped because I was wondering about the Hotwire 2 star that's available. I didn't want to overbid on PL for something that may be available cheaper on HOTWIRE.
13. What is your thought about the HOTWIRE 2* in South Side priced at 113?
14. It was quite a day of bidding without having any bids accepted. This is a first for me, and probably something you don't often experience either. I am wondering if I should lower my standards and go for two stars in the surrounding areas or if I should bite the bullet and book with Hotwire. The safety reservation at Quality Inn, when I went to book, was unavailable. There is also Greentree, even though it is less favorable than other areas, that might hold some good deals. Don't worry, I'm definitely using your links for my searches. I will let you know how it turns out.
15. Both areas would be acceptable for us. Three miles would be okay. It gets us in the general area and we can always cab it for a low fare if needed. I think the back up reservation sounds good too, since it is refundable. I was looking at the Priceline list for both areas, looks like 3 stars is a good place to start. If it doesn't work out I would be okay with 2 stars. On a trip like this with prices so high you just have to be flexible. I will try for the complete stay first for these areas, and if needed I can then split. Thanks.
16. Using your PRICELINE link, I bid as laid out below using the many rebid zones. Unfortunately I did not have my bid accepted or countered. Looks like downtown is not going to work out. Plan B for me is to get a decent room, 3 stars or above, in a nearby area. And like I said in an earlier post, I'm not too knowledgeable about all of these areas. For Priceline it looks like map wise North Shore, South Side and University Center seem close. I'm not sure what which area has to offer but if it is close to everything it doesn't really matter. I should also mention I was only bidding for that Saturday and Sunday for the above downtown bidding because I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to stay somewhere else Friday.
17. I would like to try for downtown first. If unsuccessful I'd like to bid on surrounding areas. There are hotels in surrounding areas listed in the 160's to 200, so if I could get into downtown for the same I'd be really happy.
18. I said any star rating because at this point I'd just like to be in a good area for the whole experience. I want to be able to hang out with other Bears fans. I was looking at posts on Tripadvisor and it seems like people choose the Green Tree area as an alternate to downtown and some places have shuttles in Green Tree. I was hoping for good public transportation from the airport area into downtown which would have saved a lot but there isn't a train or anything convenient. I'm not opposed to another area like North Shore if its close to downtown and a lot cheaper, I just didn't know. It may be worth it cabbing it from there. I'm a walker too so not afraid to hoof it a little more. I'm all up for splitting my bid.
19. I just did click on both links. I did the same another time this week. I always use your links
20. I'd love to get under $200/night. I realize that it may be cheaper to bid for Friday separately too and possibly get two different hotels as a result. I'm okay with that. It would be amazing if I could get more around $150 though for any star class downtown.
21. Hello all, I have used this board for quite some time with success. I am a little confused as to how to approach bidding for Sept 20-23 in downtown or Green Tree areas of Pittsburgh. I'd like to be close to everything but I don't really care which hotel. I'm wondering if Priceline will even work as it is Sunday Night Football and apparently on the 24 th there is some huge summit in Pittsburgh. Any suggestions? I would much rather spend less and be able to do more. I'm not opposed to other areas if there is good train or public transportation access. I just don't know the city well enough. Thanks.
22. Yay! I wanted a room near the Radisson Star Plaza for the annual St. Patricks day bash. No driving, no worries, just partying! Same as last year, I ended up with the Courtyard, only a couple blocks away. Started my bidding at 50, went through 4 rebid zones until I got up to 64 and was accepted. $63 was declined. Overall a great deal which saved me about $40. That's spending money for my night out now. :D I used your PRICELINE link to start my bidding.
23. Big time score on this deal! Looking for a place to stay after the huge St. Pat's party at the Radisson Star Plaza. Rooms were $165 there. Started my bidding at $60, was offered to raise my bid to $72 but I declined. Entered rebid zone and bid $65, was accepted at Courtyard which is right behind Star Plaza. Their regular rate was 110. Score! I used your link to PRICELINE to make my bids, thanks!
