  1. the meters in hoboken do not operate on sundays. if you can find a metered spot on saturday night after 9pm (or before 9pm, just make sure you feed enough quarters to last you until 9pm sat. night), then you don't have to move your car all day sunday, and it will be free parking. just don't forget to move it sunday night, otherwise you'll get a ticket monday morning.
  2. hi washington street is the main strip in hoboken, where the majority of restaurants / bars are located. also, there are a few on the waterfront (sinatra drive). washington street is 2 blocks up from your hotel, and sinatra drive is a half block down towards the waterfront. a decent steakhouse is arthur's steakhouse on 3rd and washington street. not pricey, and decent selection. there is a place called "it's greek to me" farther up on 6th and washington that has all sorts of greek cuisine (as well as your standard sandwiches and burgers). i ate there once and it was pretty good. as for italian, there is a place called margaritas but it's farther up, i think on 10th and washington, that has really good oven brick pizza and pasta. finally, if you like mexican food, try charritos. i forget the exact address but it's not too far from your hotel, on washington street. really good food. for coffee.. idk, not a big coffee fan myself, lol. theres a dunkin donuts, starbucks, and panera on washington street where you can have some.
  3. stayed at the W last night after winning the bid on hotwire. one minor word of warning - the room that you will most likely get is their "cozy" room (small room, 1 king bed, no views). this is fine, but after having stayed in one of their larger "wonderful" rooms in the summer, the difference in the 2 rooms is night and day. the "wonderful" room, besides having 2 beds, is also a lot bigger, and has a bigger bathroom. still, if you dont care about the size of the room, then getting the cheap rate on hotwire is a good way to go.
  4. hi when i searched for 2 or 3 guests, i wasnt getting the right hotel. i would either a) not get any hotel, or b.) get a hotel with a similar price ($143) with no tennis icon. the one i got i searched using 1 guest only. i read that if you are a member of the hotels reward program, that sometimes they will grant you extra requests, such as a room with 2 beds instead of one. i just signed up for the starwood rewards program, so i hope that they will give me 2 beds instead of 1. otherwise, someone will have to sleep on the floor.
  5. needed a room for my bday tomorrow (actually it was on monday, but im celebrating it tmw). fitness restaurant business center hi speed internet tennis nearby $142 + tax = $167 standard rate came out to $217 including tax savings: 23% i kept getting a similar hotel with no tennis icon. i didnt want to risk it, so i kept refreshing/clearing my cookies/ closing the browser until i got the one with the tennis icon. thanks betterbidding
  6. OP - that is pretty weird, im not sure if it's the W or not. at least you know that it's definitely either the W, Hyatt or Westin, so there should be no surprises. did you wind up booking the room?
  7. all of the 4* hotels that i've seen in jersey city (westin, hyatt) and the hoboken one (W) are about a 15 min subway ride into nyc. the W might be the farthest, since it's about a 5 min walk to the subway station. the hyatt is adjacent to a subway stop, and the westin is across the street. all 3 hotels are closer to the 33rd street station line (with stops on christopher street, 9th, 14th, 23rd, and 33rd street in nyc). if you want to get to the world trade center, you would have to take 2 trains, and it would be a little longer (maybe 25 mins)
  8. hi - i think i read in another post that the W has "tennis nearby" as one of the amenities. so if i had to guess, i would say that the one you are bidding on is not the W. this is just a hunch though
  9. hi guys, i'm looking to book a room via hotwire for 1 night (fri nov 13th). the room i'm targeting is the W in hoboken, and from the description of the place i'm getting, it seems to be the right one (fitness, restaurant, business center, high speed internet, tennis nearby). the rate im getting is $142 + tax. my question is, when you book via hotwire, how do they determine what # of beds you get? ideally i'd need a room with 2 beds, but is there any way to guarantee i'd get 2 beds? otherwise, if it's just one bed, i can get a similar rate by booking on their website. any advice is appreciated.. thanks.
  10. I'm also interested to know what that one is, as i got a similar deal for similar dates
  11. what if there are 3 zones.. zone A has 4*, 3*, 2*, 1* zone B has 3*, 2*, 1* zone C has 4*, 3*, 2*, 1* and i know the hotel i want is in zone A, so i bid $100 on 4* zone A.. get rejected if i bid $105 on zone B 4* (since they don't have a 4*).. will priceline automatically put me in the running for zone A as well as zone C? cuz if so, then that would defeat the purpose since i want the hotel in zone A.. so in this scenario, would i not use the re-bid process?
  12. Hi, I need some help identifying this hotel in Cancun's north zone check in: march 16 check out: march 21 2 adults $159/ person resort, beachfront, pool, restaurant, business center, tennis nearby tripadvisor4 out of 5, last reviewed jan 08 crossing my fingers that it's the hyatt caribe (which is the one i want). anyone have any input on this? thanks
  13. Hello all, just found this site through yahoo answers and it seems great so far! I need some help bidding.. I am planning on staying in Cancun 6 nights this March: check in march 17 Mon, checkout Mar 23 Sun. The hotel I'd like to bid on is the Hyatt caribe resort. Online, Hyatt has some sort of deal where you get 1 night free... but obviously it's still pretty pricey ($239 a night I believe). If i can find a cheap enough rate (under $150.. i know, that's a stretch) i'd stay 6 nights, otherwise i'd switch it around and maybe do just 5 nights (either tues - sun, or mon - sat). anyway, i know this is the priceline forum (since i was on the verge of bidding there), but are there any other tips you can give me (hotwire, etc.)? i'd like to get this hotel if i could get it for under 150.. otherwise, i'd probably try my luck at something cheaper on priceline name your own price any tips greatly appreciated.. thanks
