  1. Not used Hotwire for a couple of years (live in the UK) but have used your link and forum extensively in the past. After research on this forum, just booked the Desert Rose Resort for 4 nights in July for $46 per night using your HOTWIRE link. The amenities are as follows (same as previous posts). Amenities Suite Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool(s) Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Kitchenette Stayed there 5 years ago when it was Hawthorn Suites (we booked through the link you gave me for Quikbook) so looking forward to going back there again. Thanks, Tracey UK
  2. Looks like this hotel may have been upgraded to a 3* hotel. Have just returned and Hotwire have sent me a survey to fill in. On this survey it listed the hotel as a 3* and not the 2.5* I booked. Just filled in a Hotwire enquiry for next month to see what is available and a 3* with the same facilities is showing up in MTS but no 2.5*. Can recommend this hotel.
  3. At the hotel at the moment and can thoroughly recommend it. Very close to a subway station (28th Street - less than a 5 min walk with cases). Good breakfast and 24 hour drinks in lobby. Very clean and modern (small rooms but the same in all hotels in NY I presume), internet access and loads of takeaways and cafes nearby. Tracey
  4. Just an update, been following the prices and the 2.5* has been very high in price (up to $175). Booked PanAm Hotel in Long Island as a back up. Decided against the 4* in Hoboken (Hyatt) as no breakfast included and lengthy taxi ride to JFK for a very early morning flight. Tonight the 2.5* showed up at $98 so went ahead and quickly booked it and about to cancel the PanAm Hotel now (fully refundable booking). Yes it was the Holiday Inn Express Chelsea as expected. Hotwire price $345 as opposed to $561 on the Holiday Inn Express own website so a substantial savings. 2 adults 2 children including breakfast, $115 per night. Used the HOTWIRE link you provided. Thank you for all the advice and will use this forum again next time we need a hotel in the States. Tracey (England)
  5. Had I know that the 2.5* might have been the HI then I probably would have gone ahead and booked there and then. But at the time, it hadn't been reported. I will keep watching and have a couple of other options up my sleeve. Won't hold my breath for it to go down in price again then! Will report back when I have booked something. Thanks again, Tracey
  6. By location I meant handy to reach everywhere rather than is the neighbourhood decent. Strange how the rate jumped up so much. On the Holiday Inn's own website, the rate for my dates is $149.50 ($345 total), on Hotwire the rates now are $175 per night ($403 total). Breakfast looks nice.
  7. I am sure that it was a Quality Inn and not Comfort Inn as I remember seeing the shampoo sample in my toiletry bag a little while later! It also had a pool because the ground was covered in snow and I remember wondering why they had an outdoor pool. Thanks for the details on the Holiday Inn. I had just been reading that post and had just left a message that I had found the prices had shot up today. From $95 to $175 and from $119 to $299. Is a fluctuation of this amount normal? Will watch the prices and let you know what I decide. Is it too much of a gamble to try Priceline for the New Jersey one? The two showing up at the moment are Doubletree and Hyatt - and they all have rooms which cater for 4 people. I know NY hotels are smaller and not to take a gamble, but with those two . . . ?
  8. Thanks for that post as I have been looking at the 2.5* hotel and wondering which hotel is could be. I nearly booked either that one or the 4* in Hoboken last night and the prices were both very low - 2.5* about $95 and the 4* $119. I went to book today and found the same as you - the price has shot up for both hotels, $175 and $299 respectively!! I tried different dates and got the same sort of prices. Knew they went up and down - but not by that much. Will have to wait now and monitor the situation. Thanks for the info about the Holiday Inn - is it a good location etc? Tracey
  9. Thereuare, Been looking at the Hyatt and if that turns out to be the correct hotel, may well be worth forgoing the free breakfast (which may only turn out to be muffins and pastires anyway) and paying the extra to stay in this beautiful hotel. The girls have lovely memories of the Hyatt in Anaheim (booked with Priceline through advice on here) and this would also be a hotel to remember rather than the 2.5* one in Midtown south or going for a budget motel out at the airport. I will do some more research but may well try for this one. Thanks, Tracey
  10. I had lots of great advice from this forum a couple of years ago when we spent 3 weeks on the west coast of the US. We got the Hyatt in LA, Embassy Suites in San Francisco and Embassy Suites in Seattle. I did post the info on there at the time. The Hyatt would be a great hotel, we stayed at a hotel about 8 years ago at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel (I think) and opposite a shopping mall and the train into New York. I am sure it was the Quality Inn, but they no longer seem to have a hotel there now. It wa a great location with an excellent view of New York. Our flight back is at 7.30, we can check in on-line but I would imagine we would need to be at JFK by 4.30 to 5.30 am!!! Rather early. i was looking in the NY section to try and find the hotel, guess I should have been looking in the NJ section instead. Many thanks for your help, Tracey
  11. We are looking to spend 3 nights in New York before taking an early flight from JFK bank to London. I have seen the following hotels on Hotwire and any help would be appreciated (entered 2 adults and 2 childre). 21 to 24 February 4* Hoboken Jersey $119 Fitness pool restaurant business internet Accessibility to Manahattan and also early departure from JFK are my concerns. Other option is 2.5* Midtown South Continental breakfast (useful with 2 children) fitness business internet $95 This does not show available at this price fir 21 to 24 so I entered 21 to 23 and thought about moving to a cheap motel at JFK for the last night - making the transfer to the airport easier on the Sat morning. However, messes up the Friday. Any information at all would be great. Thanks Tracey (England)
  12. Thereuare Thanks for all the information and the advice. I did look into the options but I think we will stay put where we are, unless a very good deal shows up in the meantime. The $306 included all taxes and with a breakfast included, we will probably then eat late afternoon at a buffet place and then a snack in the evening. There is a hotel showing up (I asked above) and I notice that someone else has posted this as a new topic, 3.5star, resort, suite. That may be an option nearer the time, would still like to know the name of that ($284 for the stay). But I thought, how much time will we actually spend in the hotel room anyway, even if it isn't all that nice? Probably for eating sleeping and changing. So, for now it will do. Incidentally, there is a good UK site, www.midashotels.com that I sometimes book through and occasionally works out far cheaper than the US sites. Eg two nights in the Aladdin, Luxor or Monte Carlo for the Weds Thurs was between
  13. Dirk, Did write a reply a few days ago but I obviously didn't send it correctly so will try again. No, haven't booked anything yet - only two more nights to book, that one plus the night on the coast on the way up from LA to San Francisco, on a Saturday night. Finding that very difficult - might just pull over at a motel - or is that a bad idea in mid August on a Saturday? Will have to stay off the tourist route. I did try Priceline for SFO but nothing - obviously bidding too low. Will give it another try. Otherwise will go for the Hotwire one. Have managed to book up almost four weeks (including the cruise) mostly through the help of this board and at a fraction of the price I would have paid had I booked in this country, so thank you to everyone who gave advice and help. Tracey England
  14. I couldn't find a restaurant on their website but noticed cafe Max sited "adjacent" to hotel. I have found it now though, further down the page! So yes, I think you are right. Tracey
  15. thereuare, It was the 7th post down on my PRICELINE EMBASSY SUITES BID. It was only a guess - but the restaurant icon is wrong. The price is continuing to fall. I have found out that the HI Express is very close to the Hyatt so near the same restaurants. Tracey BTW following up your Las Vegas comment and will post back about that.
  16. Do you think it could be the Orleans Hotel??? I don't know what facilities it has, but do know it has children's facilities. Tracey
  17. thereuare, The rate for the Hawthorn Suites is $306 ($68 and $72) and $10 cancellation fee. The rreports on tripadvisor.com are not very complimentary about this hotel - but I know it is subjective and we won't spend much time in the hotel itself. Another hotel has shown up on Hotwire for $256 for the stay but I think it is the Stratosphere - too far down the Strip. The prices for most hotels seem to have fallen for those dates. Tracey
  18. Any idea of the name of this hotel? August 4 to 8, $61. Icons, Resort, suite, restaurant, pool, internet, business, golf, spa? Thank you Tracey
  19. Anyone know the name of the hotel that is showing up for the 28th August in Burlingame for $52 with the following icons? It has ranged between $52 and $62. Shuttle, restaurant, pool, fitness, breakfast, business, internet. It has been suggested that it might be the Holiday Inn Express, which certainly does seem to match up - but it doesn't have a restaurant. It has a room off the lobby where a complimentary breakfast is served. Could this count as a restaurant? And is this Holiday Inn near anything (ie I was told the Hyatt was near places such as Sizzler, etc)? Thank you Tracey
  20. I have been watching a hotel on Hotwire in Seattle which has disappeared for a while and then shown up again to then disappear. It has been showing up again lately so I booked it last night and it turned out to be Embassy Suites and I was extremely pleased. I did look quite regularly though and it paid off in the end. Keep looking and be patient. BTW I got it for $65 and the cheapest on-line price was $163 - so there are bargains to be had out there. Tracey
  21. Hotel won from 17 to 21 August in Renton (Airport areas) Seattle for $65 per night. Embassy Suites, West Valley Highway (near airport) Icons, Suite, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Breakfast, Kitchenette, Business, Laundry. Interestingly enough, ES websites advertises a complimentary airport shuttle, yet it is missing from the icons above. Website prices for those dates, cheapest $163. Tracey
  22. thereaure, Did a lot of research into the possible hotels for the thread above but couldn't narrow it down to one - not everything matched up for all the combinations, either something missing or something extra. So, booked the 20th only to see what it was and then went back and booked the 3 nights beforehand. I know that it worked out slightly dearer that way (only $7) and I took the risk of the hotel disappearing between bookings, but didn't want to end up with some of them that were only $60/70 to start with. So, to cut a long story short, I am VERY pleased. It was the Embassy Suites at Seatac. I am thrilled. Indoor pool, breakfast and evening drinks, two rooms (suite) and all the extras that Embassy Suites seem to offer. Total cost was $298 (if booked at once) or $305 because I did it in two stages. Wish I had trusted your instincts, ES was your guess. Only thing that was missing was the Airport Shuttle icon. That confused me! Website rate is at least double, almost triple Hotwire rates in this instance. Thanks again for all your help. Tracey
  23. Interesting, never thought of that(restaurant) But, no shuttle is mentioned and both Embassy Suites and Springhill Suites have an airport shuttle. Embassy Suites has internet and not listed on Hotwire. So . . . ? Can't be lucky enough to get the Embassy Suites again. If I bid for it in a few days time, I will post the outcome. Have sort of decided not to go to Vancouver but to have a rest instead ready for the cruise. We will have had enough travelling around in the two weeks beforehand. Thanks, Tracey
  24. thereuare, Springhill Suites seems to ring a bell - I did some research a while back and came up with that one but couldn't remember the name. Have finalised almost all our plans now, apart from a 4 day period before the cruise. If we stay in Seattle for the whole time then we will hire a car and use the hotel as a base for touring the whole area, not just Seattle itself. Therefore an airport location will be fine. Another reason for the choice is the breakfast and the price. It is also by a shopping mall. The other choice would be to have two nights in Vancouver and then 2 nights in Seattle, if it is worth the journey. I cruise out of Seattle. Perhaps someone in the area could comment on the distance (I think about 3 hours?), whether you can take a hire car over the border and if Vancouver is a good place to visit for 2 days, entirely subjective I know! Thanks again for all your help. Tracey
