If you haven't done so already, sign up for the Fairmont President's Club. Once a month, they release Great Rates, Great Dates. I've seen the Hotel Vancouver for as low as $109/night. The unfortunate thing is that you can't subscribe to an email notification and you have to keep logging into the site. However, if you're willing to wait, you might get the hotel.

I'd suggest avoiding the Plaza 500 if you can. It's been about 4 years since I stayed there but I don't think the owners/management hasn't changed. I was there for a conference that was booked there because the owners were affiliated with the charity I was doing some work for. The rooms are nice enough but the food was mediocre. The one thing I remember was that there was never enough hot water during peak periods... we're talking cold showers at low pressure at 7 a.m. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you are renting a car either.

Started out with $57 for 3* in Calgary Downtown since I was hoping for the Marriot. Upped the range to Calgary Airport and $67 bid. Third bid of $87 accepted. Total is $104.72 USD for the one night stay. The Hyatt website is listing a lowest possible price of $152USD with a AAA discount.
