August is probably in the middle of cruise season too, a lot of guests waiting to start or finish their cruise. Fills up the hotel rooms.

Did you pay by credit card? Can you enter the transaction into dispute? Been successful for me in the past when I get nowhere with getting a refund.

Hopefully a quick hotwire question - the one that looked like the Westin has changed. Is there any way to list other 4* hotels in the area, apart from the one that shows up? TIA.

Hi, Thanks for the tip about what is likely to be the Westin. I stayed there in Nov, in a deluxe corner room and it was acceptable, except for double charging my credit card, but they put it back a few days later. Will have a look round HOTWIRE when I get home and let you know what I settle for. I just wish I could make a decision!

Thanks for your comments. The reason I was looking to stay in the Times Square area is because I'm seeing some shows in the evening, and it's central. I stayed at the Westin last month and found it very convenient. Maybe I should look at other areas. Stayed at the Four Points Chelsea in March, not a bad area too, just more travelling in the evenings. Budget wise, anything less than what the normal rate would cost me, as that's what I'd pay anyway.

Hi, new to all this, and I've had a good read around, and planning on bidding for a 4 star hotel, for 4 nights (Wed - Sun) in March in NYC, hopefully in the Times Square area. Anyway, I've got a booking at the Marriott Marquis ($359pn) for all 4 nights, just in case. Would I be better booking 2 x 2 nights stays or will I be ok with my 4 day booking as a backup? I don't really want to be changing hotels mid trip, but if I can save some money, then I'd do it. Thanks for any help and tips.
