  1. :) Not much of a savings but I wanted to report this. Started at 75 for a 4* star in the same area, added Civic Center and Marina as free rebids upping five dollars and two days. Lately I feel as if going retail is actually better when the savings of 29 bucks is all one gets.
  2. Kept trying over a few days and even worked up to 150 for a four star. This property was so perfect. The hotel was very kind and accomodating.
  3. Thereuare, Thank you for your response to my predicament and to cleaning up my post. I thought that I wold let you know that as a serious PL person, I try to post but never have time to post all my wins for work. Priceline for London, Paris and perhaps other cities is decidedly not the way to go. My Paris woes get worse. After I bid 225 for two zones, you are correct. I looked at the price of the property online and it was cheaper on multiple sites by about five-ten dollars. Also the Tripadvisor reviews in different languages stated that the property was no way four stars. There is no restaurant, other amenties, etc.. I did contact PL and they ended up not handling the issue very well. The Best Price Guarantee does not resolve an issue where there is an expectation that there will be a value of up to60%. Instead, by bidding, I actually was paying MORE. Numerous calls later to wherever that call center is, there is no resolution as the front desk of the property refuses to confirm the restaurant issue! Amazing. I hope that you post this somewhere on the site where people can read prior to booking so many nights. The perception of value that PL gives is out of the window in these European properties and now I am sorry that I bid on PL for Paris and also for London where Hotwire may have been a better option. Talking to PL is waste of time and for these cities, a waste of money.
  4. Thereuare, Hello again. I just had the worst experience with PRICELINE. I booked a four star in the Opera/LesHalles and then added Madeline at 200 and then 220. I get the four star Exclusive La Pera and then i go on Kayak to find it cheaper there. I call PL up and they hung up on me while I was on hold. What gives? The Tripadvisor reveiw is attrocious with talk of Bedbugs, two star ratings. What can I do other than call? This is odd to be sure.
  5. Thereuare, Thank you. The Max is 225- 250 with zones which are centrally located such as 1, 2, 3,4, 6, etc... At this point, the hotels are going up every day. May book today. No need to remind me of the links as I use them all of time and mention that in my posts.
  6. Help with a strategy. I am familiar with re-bids and all that but I want a good four star. Ideas? Thank you.
  7. thereuare, Thank you for the reply but wow, I had no idea that they were basically the same thing. Interesting. I have seen price differences between the two. F
  8. Got something else so thank you anyway! always use the links- even to poke around!
  9. Was trying for this for a few days. Only a few days before was I able to snag this amazing deal at a great hotel. Okay a bit far to walk but okay- the view! I had tried for four stars and three stars from 75- 110. It was timing I think, or new rooms came on.
  10. Please Help me this 4* Hotwire Kensington Hotel with Gym, restauratn, hi-speed, business center. I am about to book something else and this popped. I am using your links always. Expedia opaque getting game?
  11. Gym, Pool, Spa, High-Speed Internet, Restaurant, Laundry- Reviews not in. Any ideas?
  12. Did this at the last minute. Of course, used the PRICELINE links here.
  13. Hi. Thanks to the other postings snagged this deal on first try. HUGE Lesson: many areas have resort but no four star. Used the PRICELINE link. Bid day of stay.
  14. I got this on the first try as this area for this weekend and Memorial Day events meant that I wanted to be close to Georgetown.
  15. Here goes again. So, I was desperate and bid adding the area of Bethesda thinking that I would get one of the hotels near the Bethesda Metro. Nope. I still do not learn. I got the Marriot Bethesda after adding all the DC areas closer to the dowtown. This would not be so bad as the hotel has a shuttle to the closest metro station which is Medical Center Station and one stop beyond Bethesda. However, as I finished my corporate work at 11 pm, I had to fend for myself insofar as a taxi which took forever. The hotel was fine and even had laundry facilities but I felt a bit out of the way. Lesson- never bank on getting the same properties as other posts. Really look at the outskirts.
  16. Note- This hotel bid came through the area of Georgetown/Foggy Bottom despite the fact that is has Dupont in the title. Totally last minute. Has bid earlier in the day and received counter offer of fifteen dollar increase for my 65 bid. Tried that amount later to have it fail. Added a free zone and took it up to 85. It was interesting as the hotel told me that they were basically sold out. Time between booking and my checking in was ten minutes. I thought that was good to know. Of course used the PRICELINE links. Great hotel and great deal that suggests that sometimes, maybe waiting until ten minutes before works out.
  17. I made the huge mistake of thinking that I would get one of the hotels near the Bethesda metro. BIG MISTAKE. I should know better by now but clearly I was hopeful. I added the area because this past week in DC has been a complete disaster. Graduations and conventions while the Congress is in session. The Marriot Bethesda is located near but not close to the Medical Center Metro Station. They have a shuttle but it was not running late at night after work. I paid ten dollars and waited thirty minutes for a cab to pick me up. Meh. The lesson here is that Bethesda like Silver Springs is a big area.
  18. Hello. This was a veritable nightmare to get this. Between graduation and a number of drunk lawyer conventions, I started bidding for this weeks ago. Never would I have imagined that I would pay more here than in NYC or Boston. I am embarassed about this post but do have to comment that I had tried lower start levels up to five days ago and various price points. I mean this was hard. That said, the hotel was great as I tired of the Crystal City schlep. Of course I used the PRICELINE link.
  19. Beg pardon, but I do not understand. I put the star level on the thread. Where else would I confirm the star level?
  20. First try. Lucky guess. Used the PRICELINE links. Comes to 75 and change.
  21. Of course, I used the PRICELINE form on BB. First bid as I looked at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Am pleased with the choice and think that this will work for me. there are other dates which have been impossible to get. :) Oh, I chose Crytal City.
  22. Thereuare, I would not mind listing the amenities at all. However, I never stated that I had bought two rooms and that raised the price. Please reread. I got one room for three persons and my Hotwire purchase confirms that. The amenities are: Smoke-free rooms Restaurant(s) Fitness Center Business Center High-Speed Internet Access
  23. I was so tired of doing the PL every day. I decided to do HOTWIRE to guarantee that the three of us can get some kind of bedding, even if it means just getting two double beds. Not exactly where I wanted to be but the reviews sound great. Two rooms at these summer rates is crazy.
  24. I consider Crystal City a DC area because it is next to the airport. I had been bidding around the city but needed to be close to DCA for an early flight. Cannot imagine that the taxi will cost more than a few bucks. I am very pleased with this.
  25. Have been trying forever to get what another post was able to attain meaning a three star for the smae dates and area at 60. Harumpf! These dates were very difficult for some reason. Perhaps there is a convention in town but all prices are way over the norm. PL had given me a ten-dollar bouns link which I used for this transaction so I basically bid up to 95 and with the bonus it came to 105 for a PL savings of 40 dollars but, still. I had tried so many areas including Bethesda but not Silver Springs, Crytal City (which sometimes is listed as Arlington?). In anycase. These are the dates. Sorry I thought I had posted this.
