  1. Here is chart of what I bid on 7/11/2007 for a pick-up at JAX on 8/9/2007. "Try" is what I bid at Priceline. "Sugg" is what Priceline suggested as a more suitable bid. "HW" is the Hotwire price for the same car type, same location, same dates "Ratio" is the ratio of the Priceline suggestion to the Hotwire price. class try sugg hw ratio economy 15 26 33 0.79 compact 18 28 34 0.82 mid-size 23 32 39 0.82 standard 25 35 45 0.78 full-size 25 38 45 0.84 premium 30 42 53 0.79 sport utility 30 53 55 0.96 convertible 30 56 52 1.08 luxury 30 60 60 1.00 minivan 65 60 1.08[/code] I started out bidding on a mid-size; several bids were rejected, so I moved on to other classes. The bid of $18 for a compact was accepted. I was then offered an upgrade to a mid-size for $5 more or a standard or full-size for $7 more. Strange that they offered the mid-size through full-size upgrades for the same final price that was previously rejected. I went with the full-size for $25. Company was Alamo. A little confusing at pick-up because all the signs say "National." Had a choice between a Malibu (I wouldn't consider that a full-size), Impala, and Grand Prix. I took the Grand Prix, and was very pleased with it. Your Offer Price: $18.00 Upgrade Charge: $7.00 Final Offer Price: $25.00 Total Rental Days: 3 Subtotal: $75.00 Total Taxes & Fees: $30.64 Total Charges: $105.64(USD)
  2. For this stay on Memorial Day weekend, I started out bidding on a 3-star hotel in Evansville. Bids from $35 to $60 were rejected. I then moved to 2.5 stars: bids of $35 and $45 were rejected. I then moved to 2 stars: initial bid of $25 rejected, bid of $31 accepted on 5/15/2007. I would not consider the Evansville Plaza (5701 Highway 41 North, Evansville, Indiana 47711) a 2* hotel. The lobby looks nice, but once you get past the lobby, everything else is old and in need of attention. I have stayed in Super 8, Motel 6, and Days Inn motels that were nicer. The carpet was thin and dirty, the bathroom walls were dirty and the wallpaper was peeling. The bathroom in general was comparable to a campground bathroom. The lobby bathroom reminded me of a men's locker room bathroom. My wife and I were unable to get a queen size or king size bed, so we had to settle for two double beds. They were too small for sleeping two people, so we had to sleep in separate beds. The beds were not very comfortable. The towels felt like sandpaper. The free* breakfast wasn't too bad: frozen waffles, pastries, cereal, yogurt, etc. Typical fare for a free "help yourself" hotel breakfast. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $31.00 Subtotal: $62.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $14.74 Total Charges*: $76.74 *Rates do not include $2.50 nightly amenity fee
