  1. There is no Hotwire hotel list for Salzburg, so seeking assistance in ID'ing this hotel. However, I'm guessing this is a new hotel to Hotwire since "We are still gathering reviews for this property." Amenities: Restaurant(s) Business Center 4/4/2012 - 4/7/2012 Thanks.
  2. I neglected to post the most important info, price. And I can't seem to be able to find a way to edit the subject line. Anyway, the price was $117. Fitness CenterPool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access I believe the link I used, which was saved from my favorites, was from this forum (sorry, I've meant to close out of my original hotwire search and restart with the link that is directly provided here, but was side tracked and forgot to do so by the time I got back to it. I am 99% sure that the HOTWIRE link I had saved/used was from here though).
  3. Actually $119 is more than what I would have liked. Wanted something <$100. But it's our vacation. I want both of us to enjoy it and have fun together. So I won't focus on the $ part...
  4. Usually I use PL for hotel rooms as it offers the biggest discount, but it seems like this time around the prices (PL vs. Hotwire) are comparable. Given the "certainty" you get from Hotwire, I decided to book with Hotwire for the 2 nights. There was no question/doubt before booking that the hotel is Moevenpick (pls refer to the hotel list provided on this site) as it's the only 4* in Amsterdam East and has "golf nearby" as one of the amenities. Amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Used the HOTWIRE link provided in the forum.
  5. Here is the latest: Dates: 9/24 - 9/26, 4*, City Center/Museum Quarter Failed up to $100, countered $25 to $125, I declined. Trip is coming up, and for a peace of mind I just want to have the hotel part of the trip sorted out. On top of that, it seems like there are quite some interest for the same dates. So I decided to just book with HOTWIRE, $119 for Moevenpick. This hotel has good reviews (4* rating by tripadvisor reviews, better than Carlton's 3.5). I'd rather take this certainty than having to bid on PL if the prices are about the same. Details of Movenpick purchase in this Hotwire Hotel Amsterdam thread. Good luck to those who are also bidding. With the counter offer for my last bid, I'd say the price you're going to have to pay is around $125 for those dates, if you want 4* in the City Center. But at least it's comforting to know there is still inventory of rooms. You might be able to win a room < $125 as time approaches, but it will be a risk you take. Hope it works out for everyone.
  6. Been bidding in the $80-$100 range. Had to break up the trip. The winning bid was $80+ $20 counter = $100.
  7. OK, tried again. My dates 9/24-9/30. Tried for 4* city ctr/museum quarter, $95, failed. Later tried for the same dates/*/location, $100, failed. Breaking up the trip into 2 segments. I have searched around various sites and found 9/24 (Fri) & 9/25 (Sat) are the pricest dates of my trip. Since HOTWIRE is offering $119 Moevenpick for 9/24-9/27, I decided to work on bidding 9/26-9/30 first. 9/26 - 9/30 Tried $90 counter offered for additional $20 at $110, I declined. Later tried $80, counter offered for additional $20 again. This time at $100. I accepted the counter and tried rebidding, this time accepted at $100 by NH Carlton Amsterdam. Now I need 9/24-9/26. Up to $85 failed. So 9/24 - 9/26 I'm still without a room. Will try again tomorrow maybe with $90-$100 bids. If still no wins, I will book via HOTWIRE. Used the PRICELINE link provided on this forum for the bidding. Thanks all.
  8. $75, $80, $88, $90, $95. I broke up the trip last night, and got a counter offer of additional $20 at $105. I did not go with the counter. I then changed the date again (instead of breaking up 2/4 nights, I did 3/3 nights) with $3 more, but rejected. Travelling with my partner who is busy and can be clumsy with details sometimes (I'm always the one who takes care of the logistics when we go on vacations.) So..... :) Hopefully I will have better news to report later today. So far one thing for sure is that I will have to break up the stay (Moevenpick is showing availability via HOTWIRE for the first 3 nights, but not the latter 3. And NH Carlton is showing much higher $ for the first 2 nights on Expedia).
  9. Need help with the 24 hour waiting period restriction. I am trying to bid a 4* hotel in City Center/Museum Quarter for Amsterdam. In the past when bidding on PL for my vacations, I was able to use free re-bid zones most of the time. With Amsterdam, there is no free re-bid zone. So is it true that I need to wait for 24-hr before rebidding again? Any suggestion to how I should bid for a room in Amsterdam? Trip is in a week. Thanks!
  10. Oops, sorry. I had copied the amenities and meant to include them with my original post, but totally forgot to paste at the end. So much for my short-term memory... Anyway, here they are. The "Tennis Nearby" was an easy giveaway in terms of identifying the property. Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Tennis Nearby
  11. Been trying to bid for an airport hotel via PRICELINE for our last night in Boston with bids up to $100, but no success. Running out of time, I decided to look into Hotwire. It came down to 3 hotels to choose from. Mapping the amenities provided by Hotwire and this forum, I concluded they were Intercontinental 4.5* at $139, Four Points Sheraton Logan Airport 3* at $104, and Radisson 3.5* at $104. After browsing thru the reviews on tripadvisor, I decided to go with Radisson because of better reviews and a $35 saving from Intercontinental. Used the HOTWIRE link provided in this forum.
  12. Thanks for the info Colfax!! I was guessing the $139 on Hotwire was Edgewater too because of the "water view" mentioned in the review. But the review ratings didn't match. Hotwire has it at 4.0 while Tripadvisor has it at 3.5. And I didn't see Edgewater as one of the hotels listed on the hotel list, so I began to doubt my guess. No, I did not know the couteroffer is usually higher than a strike price. This is GOOD to know!! I had 8 free rebid zones. I wasn't sure if I should just continue with my $5 increment or just accept $122 all together. Because of the difficulties I've had bidding in the past weeks, and the fact that my back up hotel HIE is priced at $116 for those 3 nights, I figured what the heck. But of course, I'm always for the idea of saving a few more bucks (especially when I have so many free rebid zones)! I would definitely keep this info in mind next time I use PL. Thanks and yes, am glad the $150 bids were rejected!! I can't believe buying/bidding a hotel room is as volatile as the stock/bond markets. :)
  13. Hi, never mind about my previous request. I just won a bid on PL (10/5 - 10/8) for $122 at Edgewater. Started bidding at $100 on first try, then PL came back with a counter offer at $122. So I changed bid to $122 and won. thanks again. will now work on 2nd segment.
  14. Hi, I'm back. I've been bidding intermittently on PL for a 4* hotel in downtown, but have had no luck. I've also been keeping an eye on Hotwire rates as well. I figured my odds of winning would be better during this final week. Basically, I was ready to fall back on my back up hotel at HIE for a nightly rate of around $120 for both segments of my visit if I can't lock in any deal that is more worth while. I just now saw a 4* hotel in Space Needle area on Hotwire for $139. Trying to figure out what this hotel might be. According to the hotel list here, there is only one 4* hotel in Space Needle, which is Pan Pacific. However, the amenities do not match. Fitness Center Restaurant(s) High-speed Internet Acces I've also looked up Pan Pacific on Tripadvisor. The # of reviews don't match either. According to the recent review, "the room was small but lovely, the bed was very comfortable, we upgraded to water view and loved sitting outside. the only critisism is you must pay to park your car on top of what you pay for the room is pretty high." so this hotel is by the waterfront? would anyone have an idea? thanks a lot.
  15. Thanks for the words of advice! It is strange that I haven't seen many hotel wins for October yet... I will definitely use the link for purchases and keep you posted on the outcome. Thanks again.
  16. Hi, I'm new to Hotwire. Been trying to bid a 4* room in DT Seattle for 10/5 check-in and 10/8 check-out (3 nights), and 10/9 check-in and 10/11 check-out (2 nights). Basically, we're there 10/5 - 10/11, with 1 night spent in Victoria. However, I'm not having luck with bidding on PL. I've gone up to $150 bids, and bidding almost every other night for the last 2 weeks. Sheraton and Westin are the 2 major 4* hotels that accept PL bids. But unfortuntely, Sheraton website is showing no availability for the 2 segments I want (I played around with the website, and found that they do not have availability for the nights of 10/7 Sunday night, 10/8 Monday night, and 10/9 Tuesday night. So, in other words, for the 2 segments I'm looking for, there is 1 night in each segment is not available. Westin is showing rooms priced around $260. I then started looking into Hotwire this afternoon. I found that if I was to do 4 nights in the first segment (10/5 - 10/9, at $176/night with the same hotel descriptions as below) and leave just one night in the 2nd (10/10-10/11), total cost will be lower (I guess with Tues & Wed. both being weeknights, prices are higher because of business travelers). So, I was open to change my plan around. Then, tonight, I just checked Hotwire again, things changed on me. It now looks my original plan is better. Anyway, my questions are as follow: 1) Given I still have 3 weeks until trip, would you suggest that I continue to bid on PL or should I just lock in the hotels rooms via Hotwire? 2) Prices on Hotwire, do they usually go up or come down as dates approach? 3) For 10/5 - 10/8 (3 nights), Hotwire is showing a 4* in DT - Pike Place for $182+tax/fees, a 24% saving. It's a customer's favorite. Amenities are: Fitness Center, Restaurants, HS Internet Access, Pool, Business Center. Tripadvisor's Traveler Rating of 3.5. Looking at other threads in this forum, I'm guessing this is Westin. Sheraton is all booked for those nights (I've even called the hotel myself). Would you say this is a high probable guess? 4) For 10/9 - 10/11 (2 nights), Hotwire, is showing a 3.5* in DT - Pike Place for $129/night+tax/fees. Amenities are: Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, Bus. Ctr, HS Internet Access, Fitness Ctr, Restaurant, Laundry. Judging from the "Complimentary Breakfast" and "Laundry," I'm guessing this is Silver Cloud on Broadway. Again, would you say this is a likely guess? Getting a bit frustrated since bids on PL are not won, and Hotwire deals are changing on me by the hour. :) Any word of advice or suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks :) p.s. I just checked Hotwire again, and it's now looking like what I saw this afternoon! (nuts!) Same hotel amenities as above, $176 for 10/5 -10/9 (4 nights) and $129 for 10/10 - 10/11 (1 night).
