  1. When I arrived at the hotel around 8 p.m. I had to get buzzed in by the night clerk. There were signs about no loitering and photo id needed and much match name on reservation. It took a few tries for the clerk to get the Hotwire reservation to go through the credit card machine (had to hand enter, and $47.45 was the room cost for them). The hotel is a motor court style with outdoor entrances and you park at the door. It's a two story hotel in a couple of buildings. The room was worn. The easy chair had stains in it (didn't look at the upolstered desk chair), there were water marks on the drop tile ceiling in the bathroom, the bathroom light was falling down, and the room didn't have a hair dryer as advertised. The room could use a good thorough cleaning esp. vacuuming. I could hear next door though it was more the m'wa-wa-wa sounds of Charlie Brown's teacher than actual conversation/television. I question the smoke alarm but didn't test it and the room didn't have a sprinkler system. The sign out front said Free HBO and Continental breakfast. I didn't watch tv so I can't comment on that. In the morning I went to the lobby for 'breakfast' -- available was coffee plus a gallon bottle of both orange and apple juice at room temperature. Nothing else though there was a serving thing for Otis Spunkmeyer goodies. No apologies from the staff. The pool is closed for the season, but I hadn't planned on using it. Within walking distance is Starbuck's, McDonald's and Hardee's for breakfast. Also in the area are Church's Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and KFC. As you can guess, I wouldn't want to stay here again. I wasn't expecting luxury, but a basic hotel room shouldn't have stained furniture or walls and the light shouldn't be falling from the ceiling. ETA: There was a coffee maker in the room with packets. I'm not a coffee drinker so I didn't use it. There was a holder for ironing board and iron but they weren't there. I don't have a laptop so I didn't check out the internect connection.
  2. I'm not seeing a 'my account' section, so I'm adding it here. The amenities listed: pool. From the hotel's website: We are a beautiful property in southeastern Virginia, only 20 minutes to fabulous Virginia Beach. This 55-room Inn has park-at-door convenience, crystal-clear outdoor swimming pool, And FREE Continental Breakfast. Our guest rooms feature HBO, in-room coffeemakers, Internet access data ports, in-room hairdryers, ironing board/iron, alarm clock/radio. If you need a room with some privacy from your kids come then stay in one of our 2 room suites that have a door separating the living room and bedroom. Both rooms have their own TV and sleeping space! >>> 20 minutes to Virginia Beach is being optimisitic, unless they mean the city limit sign and not the actual beach. I'll write a review when I return.
  3. Need a hotel Sunday 10/19/2008 for one night in downtown Portsmouth. 2* listed for $58 and 3* for $102. Gave me the Best Value Inn, and I saved all of $2 off their published rate. With Hotwire fees I'm paying more than I could through their website. Was hoping for the Comfort Inn, but that's the risk you take with HOTWIRE / PRICELINE. Lesson learned, remember the fees before taking the deal.
  4. Hi, there, just wanted to let you know how this went. Arrived at the Hertz counter, they asked if we wanted the insurance, but didn't try to up-sell us anything. Get the keys and the contract and head out to the lot and find out our car is a Ford Taurus. Wasn't expecting a Taurus, but enjoyed the room (both of us drive smaller cars in the real world). By the way, if we didn't bring back the car with a full tank of gas, they would charge $6.50 per gallon. There is a Noco brand gas station on Genesse St. near the airport.
  5. Looking for a cheap car for the weekend above. Through various searches, cheapest was $41.95 day + taxes (Economy I think, maybe Compact, whatever was cheaper) from Alamo and Budget. Hotwire offer of $18.95 a day + taxes was a Hertz car. Hope all goes well and I don't have to give the Jerry Seinfeld speech! Saving around $75 for the weekend rental. :)
  6. Just a follow up from the trip. The Red Lion was a wonderful hotel. The Priceline listing is 3 stars but it had a lot of features that could put it in a 4 star category. The room was spacious and our room looked toward the harbor. Could see the cruise ships arrive and part of the Pike Place Market. It there wasn't a building in the way, there would have been a lovely view of the sunset. The bathroom was huge to my standards and the sink countertop ran the whole length of the side opposite of the tub. There was a wet bar outside the bathroom area with the minibar we didn't use. The hotel closet featured real coat hangars instead of the hook and loop type most hotels use. The hotel offers room service, concierge service and a place to store luggage for a couple of hours if you want to do some last minute sightseeing before heading off for a cruise. There is also a restaurant on site that we didn't go to. The hotel is 2 short blocks from the Westlake Center (a mall) that is one end of the monorail service. The Pike Place market is 4-5 (downhill) blocks away. The 5th Street Theater is at the end of the block. One block away is the Sheraton. I would like to thank everyone who helped with my bid. If I ever go to Seattle again, I hope I get the same hotel from Priceline.
  7. Success at 3* and more money. I bid $50 for 3* downtown Seattle and received the Red Lion Inn. AAA price is $116 per night and some internet site had it for $93.xx per night. Taxes indicate Priceline paid just under $45 per night. Though I would have prefered to pay less (and should have started this round of bidding at $45), I think the hotel is in a beter location than the Best Western. Thanks for all your help.
  8. Thanks thesqueegeekid for your response. I hope to do this trip without renting a car so I would prefer to stay somewhere in town. And I'm cheap. Really cheap. Penny wise, pound foolish cheap. I did rebid for $31 adding in the North Seattle area and didn't get anything. Maybe I'll review my options and end up bidding $40 for a better property. And the hotel in Tacoma sounds fantastic.
  9. Thanks for your response. As I understand it, I can rebid adding the North Seattle area where there are only 1- and 2-star properties. This ensures my bid at the 2 1/2 star level will get a hotel in the downtown area. With this much lead-time, I think I will try again in a few days.
  10. I hope I have posted this in the right area. It should appear in Washington State hotels. After reading through the site (and thanks for having this) I bid $30 for a 2 1/2 star hotel in the Downtown Seattle zone. A previous poster won with that bid, but I was rejected. I'm trying for 5/29/03 - 6/1/03. Am I bidding too early? Any other suggestions? I would love to get the results the other person had.
