  1. Bid in the 40'ies and 50'ies over a few days and could not even get a 3*, so was pretty surprised to get this one. S.
  2. Hi cleverduck, While I completely understand your frustration (I really do, I raised this issue before on this board) I don't think the response from thereuare in any way indicates sympathy for or endorsement of the way it currently works with those fees. It is true that there is no way of knowing the resort fee until after the booking has been made. For you and me and thereuare and a ton of other people this is not optimal, for the simple reason that the final cost of the stay will and can not be known at the time of booking. Neither you nor I nor thereuare can do much about it, however, the more we raise awareness of this the higher the chance that priceline will change the policy in the long run. I don't think thereuare is nuts, but like you and many others I do believe the system with hidden resort fee is borderline clinically certified nuts and I think that was what you really meant. Best regards Scandi PS: thereuare - great forum, keep up the spirit.
  3. First bid at $40 was accepted. Am pretty pleased with the price. Happy new year, everybody! S.
  4. $76 per night. Amenites: Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Best regards S. PS: If anyone has tips on how to survive a lunch at Perkins please send me a pm.
  5. Hotel not booked, end of story :) You all have a nice weekend. S.
  6. Dec 26 09 - Jan 1 10. 3.5* Near Beach, Smoke Free, Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness, Business, Laundry, High-speed Internet Access, Golf, Tennis (ALL!). Am wondering which hotel this is? I see no TA rating, and I do not see an obvious match on the hotwire hotel list for FL. Rest assured I won't book unless somebody can give me the ID ("Biba" is really where I do not want to end up :) )*. Best regards and many thanks for a great site. S. *: This means: Should I write something in another thread one day and there is no ID on this hotel, then there wil be no need for the usual "What happened to your West Plan Beach plans? Please update and then we'll have a look". :)
  7. With that tripadvisor rating I think this is the Crowne Plaza at Sunrise just in front of the Sawgrass Mall. Enjoy! S.
  8. Hi Aaron, sorry, no I did not win this property recently. Should have written that in my post. I discussed this property and Hotwire ID recently wih a guy from Starwood, since it is a hotel I will be coming back to (hopefully sooner than later). Best regards S.
  9. Sorry, this is incorrect. The SS Plantation is still a solid 3.5* hotel and lists 6 amenities (all): fitness, pool, restaurant, biz, laundry, hispeed internet. No discussion. S.
  10. Hi, when looking up deals on Hotwire, you see from time to time that a resort fee is payable to the hotel, and hotwire then tells how much it approximately is. I wrote to Hotwires costumer service and asked if I could be sure that the actual resort fee would not be larger than the amount stated by hotwire. Got a longish letter (script) about resort fees, parking fees, the nice weather and the joy of holiday. Useless. Wrote them back and asked the same question again. Got a similar reply and still had no idea. Wrote them a third time, and then they confirmed my fear in that resort fees can be whatever amount regardless of what hotwire suggests them to be, and there is no way of finding out until you have booked (know the hotel exactly, call them and ask). The hotel may charge you a resort fee 10x higher than you expect from hotwire's hote description and the problem is ALL yours. Bottom line: You cannot be sure to know the cost of your stay, until you have booked and done some work afterwards. I think this is an unfortunate situation. Is it a proper way to do business ?? Please comment. S:
  11. Breakfast, Fitness, Pool(s), Biz center, Laundry. Note: According to Hotwire, the savings are $20, which accords very well with the price on Expedia ($85), but on Expedia this hotel is a 2.5*.

  14. Dear thereuare etc, thanks for this site and thanks also for the new initiatives you are taking. I am a little uncertain about this calendar function - could you perhaps elaborate a little on how you consider this functionality useful? An idea: From a stay lately at the Sheraton, Burlington, VT, I understood that the hotwire price (I got it for 67 USD+taxes) is only available on weekdays not Saturdays/Sundays. Generally, as far as I know many -but not all- US hotels and motels have increased prices in weekends, so the Hotwire price might vary accordingly. If this is so then 'day of the week' could be at least as important as 'day of the month' when ID'ing certain hotels. Of course knowledge of 'day of the week' is implicit when one reads about won bids at where the date is fully specified, but why not be a little more explicit about 'day of the week' when describing hotels when & where? Expressio unius est exclusio alterius. S.
  15. Hi, check-in Sept 14, checkout Sept 16 (2007). I hope this is what's needed. S.
  16. Amenities: Complimentary Breakfast High-speed Internet Access Pool(s) The $80/night is a 27% saving according to Hotwire ($110/night). The place is quite worn but rooms are functional and reasonably clean. External corridors and three floors. The hi-speed internet works fine. Breakfast OK, but crowded area. About the rating: The Vermont Maple Inn does not compare to e.g. Hampton Inns, which also often have a 2.5* rating with Hotwire; The motel is prolly more in the HoJo or Days Inn category.
  17. Listed amenities: Complimentary Breakfast Pool(s) High-speed Internet Access Fitness Center Laundry Facilities Tennis Nearby The place needs a serious upgrade, and Hotwire should reconsider the rating in the meantime. The price was just about right, but I wouldn't stay again. S777.
  18. Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I must admit I only saw your post after my stay was over. I got one of the rooms in the back and it was just fine. Plenty of space, everything working, bed quite good. Best, S777.
