  1. Finally pulled the trigger and bought the 3.5* for $69/nt in Alexandria-Old Town - it was the Sheraton Suites. Tonight I was able to do the whole 22 nights in one transaction. Thanks!!! I went through your HOTWIRE link.
  2. Got the PM - thanks - but didn't know how to reply. Yes the HOTWIRE link works but not the Priceline. Go figure. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks guys and or gals!
  3. Just experimenting with Hotwire and found that if I broke it up into 3 separate stays I got the same 3.5* for $69/nt. But if I did the whole 3 weeks at once I got the same 3.5* hotel for $145 a night - and it has a "customer favorite" thumbs up sign. What a bargain!!! It's the 8 icon hotel - but when you click on that hotel it actually has 9 icons. It says it's a 4 circle TripAdvisor hotel - which when I went to TripAdvisor all of their 4 circle hotels looked pretty nice. Debating whether I should just go for it on Hotwire with the 3 separate bids...
  4. Help - trying to get to Priceline through your link but could not - what am I doing wrong? Please let me know so that if I decide to go that route I can use your link. Went to Priceline the old fashioned way and have a quick question - does a 3.5 star hotel fall into the category of a "3 star" or a "4 star" according to Priceline? To answer your questions - there will be two adults and one child (my daughter). And, yes, daughter will need to be dropped off and picked up every day - that's why traffic is a big consideration. Thanks!
  5. The reason for the extended stay is that my daughter is attending a summer program at a school a couple of miles west of the Alexandria Old Town area. I don't know the area at all and I am totally intimidated by what I've heard about DC area traffic. So I want to be fairly close to school. Yes - I wanted the kitchen facilities so we wouldn't have to eat all our meals out for 3 weeks. Also was hoping for a pool for fun after school. I have used HOTWIRE several times with success, but haven't used PRICELINE. You seem to only mention Priceline in your comments - do you think you get better deals there? Thanks, so much, mrxow, for your time and information....
  6. Thanks so much for the info mrxow. We are staying 22 nights - checking in July 18 and checking out Aug 9th. The Residence Inn is $179/night plus taxes and whatnot on their site - gets pricey. But it sounds great and is a great location for what we need.
  7. Are long term stay hotels listed on Hotwire? How are they distinguised from regular hotels? I saw that there were 2* hotels that fell in the Amerisuites type of category. But I want the Residence Inn by Marriott - do you know if they appear on Hotwire? Thanks
  8. Thanks so much for all your help. I ended up going directly to a hotel and got a better deal, as you advised. We stayed at the Amalfi Hotel - which I would recommend. But I don't think they use HOTWIRE or PRICELINE. Thanks again, and I'll definitely go through you again when I use HOTWIRE the next time.
  9. Hi there, I am still finding this one this morning: 4*Mag Mile - Streeterville -Cust Fav Fitness Center Restaurant Business Center HSIA $169/nt Which hotel do you think it is? I don't see the one you think might be Swisotel. I am still using the 3-person tactic to try and get a room with 2 beds. Thanks!
  10. What is an "opaque supplier"? Is that like Hotwire and Priceline? I can get the Hyatt for $199/nt. My problem is, there are so many hotels, and like you said, so many get mixed reviews, it's hard to know where to stay. Also, trying to get a hotel room with two beds was challenging. Right now we are booked at the Affinia for a reasonable? rate of $160/nt with confirmed two beds booked through the hotel. Unfortunately, that hotel is under renovation and there is no food/bev available, it's noisy, and only one working elevator. Any thoughts on this property? You're right, as of this evening, it looks like the Hyatt is no longer available - it was $161/nt. On Hotwire this evening these are my current choices: 1) 4*Mag Mile - Streeterville -Cust Fav Fitness Center Restaurant Business Center HSIA $169/nt 2) 4*Chicago Loop Fitness Center Restaurant HSIA $185/nt 3) 3.5*Mag Mile - Streeterville -Cust Fav Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center HSIA $199/nt Based on your post about hotels, would you say 1) ??? 2) Palmer House? But what about the pool? 3) Sheraton? Also, how are the Palmer House and the Fairmont? Thanks!
  11. Sorry about that - didn't know about adding to the thread. This is the first time I've ever attempted to post to a board. :) If it is the Hyatt, do you recommend it? Kind of mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. Thanks again!
