  1. Alright, I got back. The W hotel is not a good hotel for me. The rooms are really small and so are the 2 beds. It is stuffy in the room and you can't regulate the temperature. The safe was broken and they did was hang a sign saying it was broken. Why not just it fixed. There were not that many shops around. Quite a walk to get to Bloomingdales. It was a precruise stay and after the cruise my flight back to Europe wouldn't leave till 22:00 so I asked them at the reception how much would a room cost just for 12:00-18:00 so I could leave my luggage somewhere and so my kids could take a nap in the afternoon. They could only offer me USD 330 which I of course refused. While on the cruise, I used priceline again and bid for a hotel for a 6th of April. I got it at 120 usd at the Sheraton New York on 7th Ave. The room was twice the size of W hotel. The 2 beds were twice the size of W hotel. There were many shops around the hotel. It was just situated in a very nice location. Next time I will only bid for New york west and no more east.
  2. Oh no... I don't mind the high price...since I never paid for it and I don't mind the size of the small rooms. What gives me a creepy feeling are the pictures they post on Tripadvisor, the rooms look so worn. I'm more worried about the cleaniness and hygiene and also the potential dangers of those loose hanging wires and tiles. And also it is ranked so low on the Tripadvisor, it is the worst W hotel in New York. I'm sure the price factor is a reason that gives it a low rating but W hotel should at least be up to par with the basics like cleaniness and hygiene. Oh well, we'll see... Thanks for all your help and I will be back here on my next trip.
  3. Got it! W Hotel New York Lexington at 160 usd. I'm reading the reviews at Tripadvisor and becoming less happy. Bye bye Affinia Dumont...I do save about 160 usd overall on the 2 rooms 2 nights
  4. I'll still keep on bidding but it won't be a punishment if I don't win and have to stay at the affinia....though it would be a punishment to my wallet.....
  5. 219 usd is above my budget....esp since I was hoping for a deal at 120usd for a 4*. I would content to get the affinia at 150usd. I agree with your thoughts fully and i will still aim for something at max 150usd. Do you think the average 4* I could win at bidding is better or worse than the affinia dumont?
  6. Sorry! I meant 219usd. Yes, I've been using your bidding strategy all this while. What should I do now? Will I come across Affinia Dumont? Or is it a 3 star hotel? After reading the reviews, i wouldn't mind staying there at all...but not at 219...
  7. I have just booked at 210usd for back up. How do you think I should proceed my bidding now?
  8. I just checked the offer and it was 279 usd non cancel. A pity Quikbook doesn't show you the no. stars....
  9. I checked out HOTWIRE. There are a few 4* hotels going for 300usd around that period so I have even bid up to 160 usd but still no luck. Do you think I should cool down and just keep trying for max 120usd since we still have such a long time to go? I still haven't got a back up hotel, one you can cancel. How do I go about that? thanks!
  10. So far no luck....I have even gone up to 150usd. Should I increase even more or shall we just keep on trying and not raise till 2 months before March 2008?
  11. Looking at last years's postings around March....it seems that 120USD was an offer to get accepted. So I think I'll aim at that. Eagerly awaiting your stategy...
  12. I'm ready to start bidding now! Since we have time on our side...what do you suggest the lowest bid should be? I want a 4*. Thank you for your help.
  13. I'm looking for 2 rooms in a 4* hotel for 2 nights. 3/22/08 - 3/24/08. I know I'm probably much too early but I'm just curious what the strategy will be. This is a pre-cruise stay so I'm looking for somewhere to shop for nice clothes (Saks I heard was a good place) and do some last minute stop to buy drinks and tidbits for the kids. We are all first time NY visitors. Which zones would be suitable for us? Help appreciated. Thanks, Jack.
