  1. I am looking at HOTWIRE for Sept 25 and 26 and I see a 4* in the Boston Common Zone that has:

Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Pool

Can't tell what it is! It's recommended in 90% of customer reviews. I guess it could be the Regency, but that doesn't seem to be smoke free and 90% approval doesn't seem to match either (is there a way to cross-reference the review %'s with something to get a better idea?)

    Thanks!

  2. Told myself I was going to wait to find the cheapest and closest deal I could, but got antsy and went up to $90 on a few zones. (Mayfair, Notting Hill, Regents Park, Marble Arch). Hit this. Pleased, I think, as it looks fairly accessible. Still wondering if I should have excluded that zone and gone up a tiny bit more to get something closer. (Overthinking!)

Total came to $433 incl. taxes.

    Used the PRICELINE link!

  3. Just wanted to add my two cents -- (I am also looking for a London hotel this fall) -- I got scared away from the Docklands zone after reading something about the Jubilee Line being screwy on weekends until Christmastime. Not sure how affected that particular part of the line would be, and there are probably decent buses even if the line is out... but it was enough to scare me away!

  4. Can't figure out the best place to post this, so I'll post it here: my stay at the Marriott was great - they did an awesome job considering the city was a madhouse because of the Superbowl. I had called ahead to request a corner room and got it (I suggest you do this and ask for a nice view -- corner rooms have windows on two walls and seem bigger) -- but I failed to confirm my bedding and was placed in a room with two beds. They couldn't switch me to a king that night, and said that there was a note on the priceline reservation asking for two beds (i don't know how this could have happened.) In any case we were moved and it was fine.. but I lost my nice corner view room. So my tip is to call ahead, confirm your bedding, and ask for a corner room!

  5. Going to Boston with a friend next week -- as it happened we wanted one room on 1/15, and two on 1/16 (when our significant others would be joining.) I had her bid alongside me and it worked! I bid for the 16th and she went for the 15th and the 16th. Took two days though.

Started bidding yesterday in Quincy at $65, added Copley, and slowly re-bid up to $82. No dice. Tried again today and we both got the Copley Square Hotel for $90.

Seems like a great property, our only worry is tiny rooms. We might try to call to see if we can get two beds for the room on the 15th, but based on past reviews I doubt they will do so without a fee.

In any case we are pleased, especially since we took some risks! -- and we both used the PRICELINE link. Yay!

  6. So I decided to book the wedding group rate in Solana Beach at the Marriott Courtyard for 8/15 and book a hotel downtown for 8/16 thru Priceline. Using the PRICELINE link, I bid $65 4* downtown, was given an opportunity to re-bid if I raised it by $17, then re-bid with re-bid zones to $67, and then to $69, which was accepted at the Sheraton Marina. A little disappointed because not everyone categorizes this as a four star, but hopefully it will surprise me! I see there are different towers and I can't quite figure out which one is more preferable.

Anyway, thanks for all the help. I might re-visit bidding on the 8/15 night if I feel like inventory is opening up and I confirm my Marriot reservation is cancellable. Will post if that happens!

  7. Oh, thanks for the information. I will definitely consider it.

I wasn't thinking of getting the hotel on Hotwire; I just thought that maybe it was an indication of rooms being freed up and perhaps being available on Priceline.

So far I have bid 3* Del Mar and added the zones with free re-bids that I knew of -- San Ysidro and Chula Vista. I don't want to spend more than $100 and was hoping for a Priceline deal around $60.

Thanks so so much again for the information; I will let you know what happens and what we decide -- and definitely use the PRICELINE links!

  8. Hah - well, now I have a new question. In the few hours since I last checked (and I have been checking daily) I now see a Del Mar hotel on Hotwire! $179, 3 star.

Anyone have any tips about this development in terms of my bidding strategy? Should I keep trying with higher bids? Generally I have just been adding a dollar every time I can get a rebid/24 hours pass.

I haven't really determined my maximum budget, but the hotel set aside for the wedding is $110 so I would like to spend less than that to make my efforts feel worthwhile!
