  1. Hmm, that's a tough one... my guess is it's a tossup between the Westin, Marriott Harbourfront, and Delta Barrington. Is this the hotel that is showing with a 3.0/5.0 tripadvisor rating? If that's reliable, it would seem to match the Westin more. They also appear to have their own outdoor tennis courts so that would be my best guess. The Marriott and Delta don't have their own tennis courts, but I guess they could claim to be 'nearby' the Halifax Public Commons where there are many tennis courts. Anyways, that's my guess! Perhaps someone else here can chime in...
  2. Bid once a day starting last week, 5* Athens: $80/100/110/115 - all rejected. Bid $120 this morning and got it! Based on other bidders I may have gotten it for lower if I just kept my daily bids at/around $110 or lower... ah well! Does anyone know whether this hotel is open to putting down requests for roomtypes if I call in? (specifically non-smoking, one double-bed)? I've had good luck doing this when calling the front desk directly for Intercontinental hotels in the US and Canada in advance, but have never tried calling overseas hotels before. It's unfortunate that the Intercontinental hotels don't let one manage their reservation requests online for Priceline wins like the Marriott chain does...
  3. Thanks - that's good info to know! It looks like it's very walkable to Paddington Station too which is a plus - we'll be arriving via Gatwick and the express trains seem to end up there...
  4. Was looking for a 5* in the London (Mayfair-Soho) area. I was surprised to get the Marriott Park Lane as the only 3 hotels Priceline lists as purchasable at the 5* level are the Intercontinental Park Lane, St. Martin's, and Sanderson. 07/03/08 to 07/06/08 is high season and coincides with the finals at Wimbeldon so I knew it probably wasn't going to be cheap, but wanted to book early rather than waiting until the month before. Started at $150 - given a counter offer of $282 immediately. Continued at $155/165/170/175/180/185/190/195 Restarted at $200 a few days later - given counteroffer of $284 Continued at $205/210/215/220/225/230/235/240/245 Restarted browser at $250 - given opportunity to increase price by $25 to rebid at the same location (without adding). Declined the offer and continued: $255/260 - win at $260/night at the Marriott Park Lane. Marriot online average rate was closer to $600/night for that time period. Although the location is further than I had hoped based on the three 5* Priceline hotels being offered (I wanted to be as close to SoHo/OldCompton as possible), I'm happy about the additional amenities offered by this hotel that the other hotels didn't offer, including free access to a boutique-style pool and fitness centre. Marriott's website also listed my reservation immediately on their website and allowed me to modify the reservation to reflect a guarantee for king-sized bed and non-smoking, which saved me from having to call the hotel directly. I'm happier with this win, than I think I would have been at the Intercontinental, which is what I had been expecting given it's relatively low 'buy it now' cost of mid $300's/night but poor Tripadvisor reviews...
  5. Unfortunately, splitting isn't a viable option... am travelling with elderly where mobility is a bit of an issue, so potentially having to move between hotels midway wouldn't be too good... Used the Savingsbarn link... just failed 102/104/106 . Will keep trying and/or look at other hotels...
  6. Thanks.... not sure about the rack rates, but Priceline's offered rate on the regular booking page lists the least expensive one (Hilton) at an average of $169/night+taxes for those dates. the Loews is $217+taxes and the Fairmont is $378... Will keep on trying! Looked over the last couple years of postings but not much showing around those dates to compare with... oh well!
  7. Wondering if anyone might have any tips to share. I'm looking to bid on a 4* hotel in Quebec City - all three are located in/near the old city which is perfect for us. Looking at the September winning bids I had expected wins under $100; HOTWIRE has nothing in 4*s listed, although all 3 hotels still show good availability. I've been doing 3 bids/24hrs (thanks to the lack of 4* hotels in the two neighbouring area choices). My bidding scheme so far for our dates (checkin Oct12, checkout Oct15): $65/71/76/78/80/82/84/86/88/90/92/94/96/98/$100 So far, up to $100 and no luck yet. Should I keep going? or wait until I'm at least within a month of the date or closer? It's the week AFTER Canadian thanksigving weekend so I had thought that we'd be just hitting after the peak weekend meaning possible a better chance at a lower rate. Thanks
  8. Thanks for the parking tip! We're going to have a car so that'll be useful. Do you recall if the city parking at $13/day had in/out privileges?
  9. Ah, so that's it. Glad I got the priceline bid on the sheraton then. Not a great weekend for my pal to have a wedding down there...
  10. You are possibly thinking of the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Montreal on Rene Levesque Blvd? I always stay there - all the suites have kitchens. Half the rooms have a single large room with the beds and the kitchenette, while other rooms have the bedroom in it's own room with a door, and a living room with kitchentte (the living room sofa is usually a pull-out bed). Fantastic hotel. My partner and I always stay there now - although their prices have gone up a bit, likely as a result of its popularity.
  11. Good news... I was able to make the room change. Sheraton global reservations cannot do it by phone - you will need to call the in-house-reservations at the Sheraton centre hotel. When calling the hotel directly, ask the guest services to speak with the 'front desk' to make a request for a room-type change on an existing reservation. The front desk person will check for availability, and if so, they should have no problem making the change. I was able to change my king to 2x double beds without any problems!
  12. This may be a silly question, but do you call the Sheraton reservations to find out what room-type your Priceline reservation is, or do you call Priceline? I have a September reservation at the same hotel and am curious to know what type of room/bed I also have on reserve via a Priceline win. [Edit: Oh, I just answered my own question - I called up Sheraton reservations and they had the reservation on file. Ironically, unlike you I have a king size bed, and I actually want the 2x double beds as my colleage and I prefer not to sleep in the same bed if possible. Sheraton reservations was able to confirm availability of the 2x double bed rooms but said that I would have to contact in-house reservations to make the switch. They are only open from 9-5EST, so I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back on any success...
  13. Got it on the first try. I probably should have started lower... I started a bit higher as most hotels (for some reason) are booked up that weekend. Must be something going on in the city.. maybe the Toronto Fair?
