  1. Thanks for the menu Aaron! And the rest of the restaurant tips.:) We are looking forward to our weekend getaway. I'm not that familiar with chicago pizza; what is the difference between 'Red' and 'White'?
  2. Aaron, as far as dinner goes we aren't too picky. We would definitely want to try a good Chicago deep dish pizza place at least one night. other than that we like steak, italian, chinese. thai etc. whatever you think has good food and near palmer house, and/or some place that is unique to chi-town, would be cool. thanks
  3. It's actually a 4* I was bidding on. (Accidentally listed it as a 5*) Started bidding at $55 and used free rebid zones to increase bids by $5 increments. When I reached my final re-bid, I used Skokie and bid $84 and it was accepted. I was surprised to get it at that price after seeing some of the other bids. I used the better bidding PRICELINE link. Thanks to aaron and thereuare for the advice. Now that we know where we are staying, any tips on dining appreciated. Particularly breakfast and dinner spots walking distance where the food is good and the prices are reasonable. :) Also, the price for parking is ridiculous. Is there anywhere else we can park near the Palmer House? Thanks all
  4. Thanks Aaron for the amazingly informative reply. You must be from Chicago! :) We will have to consider all the options before making a decision. I am not as familiar with Hotwire, so I will probably stick with Priceline. We don't know yet what our max bid is yet and whether we want to be close to downtown or closer to the ball park. We still have lots of time to decide. Would bidding early be better (ie. cheaper) because it's a busy season or wait til we get closer to the date? And thereuare, I will remember to use the HOTWIRE / PRICELINE better bidding links. Thanks all again.
  5. Hi Aaron, Thanks for the reply. I found the box in upper corner a few minutes ago. I guess it's moved since last I used it!:) Just started this search and just looked geographically at what was closest to U.S. Cellular field (home of the Sox). Seemed that Greater Chicago was the closest. I've only been to Chicago once. Stayed downtown but it was with my wife who was on business. If it is advisable to take transit to the park (I'm not sure how safe that area is to leave my car or if there is parking at the park), then we'd be willing to stay downtown or somewhere else close to restaurants and bars. So if you can recommend a different zone that's close to both, that would be great. We would prefer to stay at a good 3-4 star, somewhere in the $50-$80 per night range. Ideally with parking price not too exorbitant! We are probably going to stay Saturday and Sunday night. thanks
  6. Need bidding assistance for 'Greater Chicago' region of Chicago. Weekend of July 6-9. We are in early planning stages of road trip to see the jays at comiskey. This seems like the ideal region for White Sox stadium. Would prefer a 3-4 star. Did not see any posts for 'Greater Chicago' and I don't know how to do a search for those posts since this board changed. Any advice on where to start bidding appreciated. Don't have a maximum price yet nor do we know exactly how many nights at this point.
  7. Hello, After several attempts(started at $35) at getting a 2-3 star in Utica for two nights/two rooms for a wedding I am attending, I finally got a 2* for $53 plus Priceline added $5 to the bid, making it $58 technically. At first I could not understand why I was so unsuccessful. Then I realizied it's an American holiday weekend. As a Canadian, our holiday was last weekend! Unfortunately, I did not get the Holiday Inn which gets good reviews; I got stuck with La Quinta so we'll just have to cross our fingers and hope some of the reviews are not totally correct. I think that theruare has to update the priceline hotel list to include La Quinta. Thanks
  8. Biddding assistance required for a two night stay in Dearborn at a 4*. 2/19-2/21. Dates are not flexible. Where shoud I start my bidding? thanks
  9. Yellow, thanks for the tip. I read the link; makes sense. Especially at super bowl weekend. I'm sure many hotels are booking up fast as we speak. It would probably be wise to start bidding early.
  10. We still have not firmed up our plans. But one other question: Will we get a better rate if we wait til the 'last minute'? Ie. start bidding a week before as opposed to two weeks? I guess the theory is that if there are rooms still available, even during Sujper Bowl weekend, the hotels on Priceline might be willing to sell them to us at a lower rate rather than having an empty room. Is that correct? Thanks again.
  11. Thanks for the info. That's interesting about the third night bringing the average cost down. I didn't realize that was how it worked on priceline. It is significantly cheaper for the 2nd and 3rd nights as I checked on Expedia. It also saves us money on the flight. Once we are firm with a price that we can live with I will reply again.
  12. Not a firm number but $70- $90 per night. Do not have firm plans. Depends on price
  13. We are thinking of staying in Vegas on the strip for the Super Bowl weekend. We'd like to stay for either two or three nights. Feb. 5, 2011 would be check in date. We can get a cheaper flight if we stay three nights; not sure if that makes a difference. No preference as to where on the strip but we'd like a 4* or better. Any advice on where to start bidding would be appreciated. I'd really like to see comments from anyone who has stayed there for the Super Bowl and especially from someone who got it through PRICELINE. Thanks in advance.
  14. sounds good. If my passport comes in on time, and we firm up plans I will use your strategy.
  15. I would say that the maximum bid for the stay is $100. 10/24 is correct. Parking is going to cost us a few bucks I'm sure, so we'll need to factor that in. Not to mention the cost of the ticket. But I digress.. :) Downtown is our first choice, so I'm sure we'd start there with the 4 stars, then re-bid using the other zones (don't think any of them have a 4*), then try the three stars downtown and add university when the bids run out. Just my thoughts. What would you recommend?
  16. After looking at some of the reviews for the various hotels in the vicinity, the only area with some decent hotels is the university area. But Better Bidding only lists the 3* hotels. Two of the three got good ratings. The other was fairly poor. Maybe we roll the dice and hope we don't get stuck at the Wyndham! I also did some checking and the Penguins and the University of Pittsburgh football team are at home that day (Oct 24). We may have a hard time getting a room anywhere, let alone downtown or university. Let's start with university area. How should we proceed, there? w
  17. Well to answer that question is difficult to say. I guess we could find something in the vicinity and not be downtown. So let's work from the premise that we will not cancel the trip. Where would the closest vicintiy be to downtown and how would you recommend we proceed from there? We don't have a fixed budget as we said, but we'd like to stay at a minimum 2.5 star and preferable a 3 or better. And we cannot stay 2 nights. Thanks again.
  18. Thanks for responding there. It looks like we cannot make it that weekend anyway. We are thinking about going to the Sunday, October 25th game. We'd still like to go the one night (Saturday, October 24th) but all the rooms appear to be booked that weekend. I guess because the Steelers won the Super Bowl last year everyone wants to see them this year. Should I even bother trying to get a PRICELINE deal? Thanks
  19. Hi All, We'd like to go down to the Steelers game for the November 15th game. Just staying the Saturday night before on the 14th. Request some bidding assistance. We'd prefer a 3.5-4*, but I checked Expedia and it says that the hotels available on Priceline (I cross referenced with Better Bidding) are unavailable for those dates. In some cases it says you cannot check in on those dates. Is it possible I have to book for two nights to stay that weekend? Would I have to do that with Priceline as well? Any help appreciated, especially from users who were sucessful getting a downtown hotel on a Steelers home game weekend. We don't have a firm budget in mind, but we'd like to keep it reasonably priced for the night if possible. Thanks
  20. No worries, We decided not to stay in the area. We went to Wonderland today and just got back an hour or so ago. As it's really not that far, we decided to come home and sleep in our own beds. Thanks anyway.
  21. Hi there, I think it might be too risky to book this one through PRICELINE. I did manage to find some bidders here who got 'North York/Vaughn. But both of the hotels (3 and 4 star) were in north york. We really don"t want horth york. What's hotwire like? Never tried it.
  22. Hello, We are considering going to Canada's Wonderland next week and were thinking about staying at a hotel nearby. It's in Maple which is near Vaughn. I managed to find Vaughn in the Richmond Hill zone. I went to the hotel list and did not find any listed for Richmond Hill or Vaughn. The area we want has 1-4 star hotels. I also did not find any bidding advice listed. Any idea how to start the search for hotels in the area and where to start bidding? Thanks Wayne
  23. I got the Hyatt for $65. Thanks for your help. I used the Better Bidding PRICELINE link.
  24. We don't have a specific number in mind. But since I've seen an earlier post that says someone got a 4* in Dearborn for $65, I would say that $70 would probably be our max.
