This Hotel refers to itself Anaheim North, probably to attract Disneyland visitors, but is in the southern tip of Hotwire's Fullerton-Brea Zone. Very nice place.

Having previously won the 3* Residence Inn in Salinas, I wanted to see if the 2.5* Marriott Courtyard next door would come up. It did. I could have done better (after taxes and fees) booking the AAA rate directly at Vagabond Inn. Oh well ... clearly this is a tough Priceline area. I arrived for early check-in and was told I was lucky - only one room available right now. I was thinking Priceline room ... instead it turned out to be an upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite! I love Residence Inn, this is one of the nicest and definitely the best hotel and location in Salinas.

1 night (Thu) I had won a three night stay at this property for 3/26/10-3/29/10 at $46 and later tried to extend the check-in by one day. The extend was rejected with a counter offer of $57. Instead of accepting $57, I started a new bid and won at $51 (after $50 was rejected). Note that a failed attempt to extend counts as a bid in terms of Pricelines 24 hour rules. Two nights: Mon/Tue I was successful getting Residence Inn in South San Jose last November by bidding 2.5*, but this time Holiday Inn grabbed the offer. This appears to be a new property for the hotel list. Since it was accepted the first time I included the Redwood City/San Carlos zone in the bid, it is possible it could have been had for less.

Interesting PRICELINE oddity for Salinas. If you enter Salinas as your search city you will get Watsonville and Freedom as free 3* rebid zones. But if you enter Watsonville, you still get the Salinas zone, but now four 3* rebid zones: Watsonville, Freedom, Aptos, and Ben Lomond. If I remember right, that produces 16 bid permutations! Works for Morgan Hill too.

First bid of $54 accepted for a two night stay: Fri + Sat. You can't go wrong with a 3.5* in Long Beach. My first time at this Hilton. Maybe I was lucky to encounter a generous staffer, but my HHonors GoldVIP card was honored at check in even though this was a Priceline stay. Got free breakfast and free internet without asking (combined $25 value per night) and my room request was granted without hesitation. Hope all Priceliners have similar experience.
