  3. (too late, cant edit my last post) I found out that at the weekend (Sunday, Nov. 1) the "New York City Marathon" will take place in town - what a nice coincidence (for me) and maybe a small explanation for the pricy hotel prices?!
  4. Sorry i didnt know that and in the email priceline wrote that i have to use their special link :) Thanks for showing me the "right way" ... I'll make another donation to the board!

Its a really nice hotel ... stayed there for three days last weekend ... room very comfortable and clean ... Newport is nice area also ... i liked the mall next to the hotel and the supermarket behind it ... no problems with path to NYC.
  7. The closet location is the Westin itself :) I stayed (at the very nice hotel!) last weekend and have good news for you: just sit down in the lobby - wifi is free there for guests. You only have to pay at your room.
  8. Yeah, a friend told me about the cheap bus services (and the "china buses" ;-) ) but its very nice to see that a New Yorker is suggesting them too (i was a little bit afraid if the trips are safe :) ) BoltBus seems to be very comfortable and Wi-Fi on board is amazing :) I've booked a day-trip to Philly at the penultimate day of my first nyc stay. Think it will be nice to be out of town and see something different than skyscrapers :) For my second stay i cant really decide where to go :o Toronto is very interesting but Boston and Washington too :D
  9. Who doesnt love German beer? :o But i dont think it will be a good idea to carry the bottles in my luggage :) btw. because there was a very cheap flight offer, my next trip to usa is booked - 06/12 - 06/18 ... i know: just two weeks after the first trip but i think the usa is big enough to find something interesting *g* dont know where i will stay - boston, washington, philly, toronto? one of the cities i can reach easily from nyc ... so the search for good hotels will continue :)
  10. sent $10 again ... thanks - keep up the great work!
  11. Ok, here's an update and finally the last booking for this trip :o I decided to take the "Wyndham Garden Midtown Convention Centr" because of the very good reviews and i think i'll love the hotel. But i was too late -> there wasnt a deal with matching amenities at Hotwire anymore :-/ But the "Calendar of Wins" told me that the member "twice" won the hotel at the same date for $95 ... so i made a $90 bid, but was rejected ... i couldnt wait 24 hours and decided to take the risk and added the "Time Square"-Zone and made a $95 bid ... this time everything went well :) Maybe you can edit the Topic Title (and my first posting?!) of this thread with the details of the deal? Topic Title (copy&paste :) ) 3* NYC (MSG-Convention Center) Wyndham Garden Midtown Convention Centr $95 ... 5/25/09-5/29/09 details: Check-In Date: Mon, May 25, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, May 29, 2009 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $95.00 Subtotal: $380.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $80.91 Total Charges: $460.91 history: 05/25 - 05/29 / 3* / MSG / $90 - rejected 05/25 - 05/29 / 3* / MSG + TS (attention: thats not a rebid zone!!!) / $95 - accepted Cheapest rate on Wyndham website -> Total Charges: $896.40 :D Of course as always i've used the PRICELINE link of this board. Thank you all very much for the nice help and your patience I'm really happy now that the trip is complete and i'm excited about my first stay in NYC and the US. @thereuare -> if you want some good German or Swiss chocolate just drop me a line - i think there will be some space for it in my luggage :)
  12. Really nice to see that you've found a good deal for your stay! *** Congratulations *** Maybe i'll try to get the same hotel for my last five days... :)
  13. thanks ... i think the hotel is not very good but location (at central station) is great. I will report my experience after my stay.

  15. Now i can hear your voice saying to me: "oh my god, what have you done?" :) But yes, i decided to make a "big split" to my stay and test some hotels :o So i'll learn many about the different areas and for future trips to NYC i know which hotels/areas i prefer :) With your help and the great infos from this board i got this two deals for the first days: 05/22 - 05/23 - 3* Sheraton JFK Airport Hotel - $80 via Priceline 05/23 - 05/25 - 4* Westin Jersey City - $95 via Priceline From 05/25 till 05/29 i need another hotel and maybe we find a nice one in the city?! :) What do you think about the 3,5* "Wyndham Garden Hotel Midtown Convention Center"? Thankfully AaronJB showed us the good rate ($105/night) at Hotwire... Hopefully you can understand my decision a little bit and will help me for the five days - thank you very much!!!
  16. No problem - i'll write a report about my hotels when i come back... :)
  17. Dont think this is an option for you, but i'll split my stay and got this for the first four days: 05/22 - 05/23 - 3* Sheraton JFK Airport Hotel - $80 via Priceline 05/23 - 05/25 - 4* Westin Jersey City - $95 via Priceline Choosed an airport hotel for the first night, because i'll arrive late and dont want to search my hotel in an unknown city at night :) Hope to find a hotel in the city from 05/25 - 05/29 ... wish you good luck, too!

  20. @travellar Nice to see another traveler with nearly the same travel dates :) Will be in town from 05/22 - 05/29 coming from Germany, so i'll follow this thread with great interest :o @AaronJB Please can you tell me what i'm doing wrong because i cant find the $109 HW Wyndham :) That would be an interesting option for my stay but i only see a 3,5* in Chelsea - Madison Square Garden Area with the icons "smoke free, fitness, business, high-speed" for $105 ... thanks!
  21. Hey thereuare, thanks for this nice tool - i really like it :)
  22. ok, here's an update... tried many times but was not successful :o 05/22 - 05/26 / 3,5* / Jersey City + re-bid zones / all rejected bid from $60 - $100 ... at $100 PL has offered me an re-bid when i will increase my bid by $22 05/22 - 05/25 / 3,5* / Jersey City + re-bid zones / all rejected bid from $60 - $100 ... at $100 PL has offered me an re-bid when i will increase my bid by $22 05/26 - 05/29 / 3,5* / Jersey City + re-bid zones / all rejected bid from $60 - $120 05/22 - 05/29 / 3,5* / Jersey City + re-bid zones / all rejected bid from $60 - $95 Maybe i'll be successful when i increase my bid to $110?! But before i'll try this, please can you post a good "4* bidding strategy" for a hotel in the city from 05/26 till 05/29 with a maximum bid of $120? I dont really care about the zone because i dont know which area is good :) Maybe there's a chance to sleep near the best bagel shop you've mentioned here sometimes :) (because i really love bagels :) ) Thank you very much and wish everbody a good new week...
  23. Hey, sorry - no good news :) 8 bids (05/22 - 05/26) / 3.5* / $60 - $95 / all rejected 8 bids (05/22 - 05/25) / 3.5* / $60 - $95 / all rejected Will try again tomorrow or at the weekend ... but dont want to raise the maximum bid. I know its difficult to say, but maybe its a bit early for the bids!?! We will see ... i think next week i'll ask you for the 4* "in the city" bidding strategy :) Thanks for the nice help until now and have a nice day...
  24. Of course i want to keep the maximum bid as low as possible, but maybe i'll try today until $95 ... But with a $95 or $100 "Jersey bid" the difference to a $110-$120 "NYC bid" (you said with a little bit of luck we can get such a great deal in the city) will be not very big. So if $95 will not work, we maybe can try the $110 "NYC strategy" for all seven nights. What do you think?
  25. $85 was the highest bid... Maybe what i've posted was a bit confusing, sorry :) There were 16 bids because i had 8 bids for 4 nights (05/22 - 05/26) and then 8 bids for 3 nights (05/22 - 05/25) :)
