  1. Reserved a room for my grandparents as they trvelled through on their way to Cincinatti... Only restriction is that I needed to beat their $53 (w/ taxes) rate at the Motel 6. I don't have the bid history, but basically I used 4 rebids on the 3*, another 4 on the 2.5*, and then 2 on the 2* before getting this rate. I was hoping to get one of the Courtyards, but I think it being a Monday doomed that... Hopefully it's better than the Motel 6, at least it's a few bucks cheaper. The Studioplus Cleveland-Airport 25801 Country Club Boulevard North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 (440) 716-2412 Check-in Date: July 26, 2007 / After 3:00 PM Check-out Date: July 27, 2007 / 11:00 AM Price: $37.00 Taxes & Fees: $12.92 Total: $49.92
  2. My non-computer-using Mother-in-law called me tonight asking me to get some friends of hers the cheapest possible rates for rooms in the area of Disney World next week. Her friends are pretty poor, but are determined to take their children to see Mickey. Again, the critical issue was price, with location secondary. I decided to target a 2* in the 20's, as Hotwire showed a hotel in Kissimmee for $32 (truth be told, I initially searched with a 4th night and only saw $39 - I might have taken $32 in Kissimmee had I seen it before I went on PL) I kinda screwed up my strategy with rebids and may have paid a couple of bucks higher than was necessary, but the deal was still pretty good, so I think it worked out. 2.5* - Disney World Vicinity - $20 added West Disney Area - $22 added Kissimmee - $24 added Universal Studios - Sea World - $27 added 2* - $27 - got it. Esa Orlando-Conv Cntr-Westwood Universal Studios - Sea World 6451 Westwood Boulevard Orlando, Florida 32831 407-352-3454 Check-In Date: Mon, Jul 2, 2007 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, Jul 6, 2007 / 11:00 AM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $27.00 Subtotal: $216.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $37.96 Total Charges*: $253.96
  3. Thanks for visiting, bro :) On the weekend following, another of my brothers got the same hotel for $50 and when he realized he needed a 2nd room the day before he drove up, he got the residence inn on Gatehouse rd (my personal favorite hotel in the area) just down the street for $50. That's 3 great deals through priceline for my family due to this forum. Thanks!
  4. This is a gorgeous hotel, I work just around the corner and we hold a lot of company functions in their banquet rooms. I wouldn't expect to tbe able to park & ride to the airport, they don't have a lot of excess parking and are pretty high-end. The discount long-term parking at Dulles is around $8/nt, IIRC.
  5. I bid $46 on the 2.5* hoping to get a residence inn or courtyard. I bid a few times around in the 40s a few nights earlier with no luck. On the 21st I bid $46 on my first bid and was offerred the opportunity to rebid free if I went up $13. Since I was looking to beat $60, I took the offer at $59. I was also given an "Upgrade" to a 3* (without prior notice.) The Westin was being listed on Hotwire at $63/nt, so this doesn't feel like a great deal, especially given some of the poor reviews for this hotel. Oh, well, hopefully my grandmother will like this better than the $68/nt Days Inn she had booked for herself :)
  6. A late posting, but... I had agrad-school interview on the morning or the 3rd in Philly and used PL to book based on info on these forums. The Tut exhibit was in town, so I took my wife and son (4yrs old) via Amtrak from DC and made a weekend getaway out of it. IIRC, I saw the $46/nt post and shot for that, escalating with rebids by $2 per until I landed this hotel at $60. (from my PL profile:) Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $120.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $25.26 Total Charges*: $145.26 The hotel was fantastic, central to everything and easy to reach via public transit (my son got to see his first foot-long rat in the subway station). The staff was very accomodating and gave us a 2 dbl bed room with no questions asked. The hotel is gorgeous and the restaurant was good, if a little overpriced - we ate breakfast there both days. The indoor pool and exercise facilities were very nice. It seems that the weather was somewhat chilly on Saturday afternoon and my wife told me they were giving out hot chocolate in the lobby when she came back from sightseeing, a nice touch. I recommend this hotel highly, especially if you can get it at a rate this low (or even better yet at the earlier posted $6!)
  7. On Hotwire I'm seeing a 3.5-star hotel in Tysons Corner for $63/nt from 7/16-7/19. This should be a great deal, but based on everything I've seen, I'd guess this is the Westin. The reviews have not been particularly good for this hotel since it converted over from Doubletree, I'm going to pass on it and hope to get one of the Courtyards or Residence Inns on PL for around the same price or less. They're listed as lower stars, but I've been in all of these (I live in Falls Church and book for ppl visiting me) and the Westin is my least favorite hotel on the list.
