  1. After visiting this website I decided to bid on a 4* star hotel on Priceline for Downtown Denver. Of course, as always I started my bid by using the PRICELINE link provided on this site. I started by bidding on Sunday evening at $60 for just the one zone. I then upped my bid last night to $62 and was told that if I added $17 I could get a hotel. My experience and the advice of others here told me to hold out and not fall for the Pricelines trick. In any event rather than waiting a full 24 hours I added Northeast Denver as a bidding zone, as know that there are no 4* hotels located in this area. Well in any event by doing this and upping my bid to $65 I was able to get a room at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. Based on the rate information from Hyatt.com I would have paid $167.30 + taxes for a room at this hotel, so I think I did okay. Wyomingtraveler
  2. :) After using this site to do a little research on hotels being offered in Las Vegas through I decided to use the link supplied at this site for Hotwire to book a hotel. The information on this site was dead on and I was able to get a room at the Palace Station for a steal. Upon arriving for check-in was told that was being put in a V.I.P. room. Simply put this just meant that they put on the top floor. This was great, as the room had a nice view of the north end of strip including the Stratosphere, as well as downtown Las Vegas. Unlike many of the other rooms in the tower this room did not look, as though it had been upgraded. The hotel's website shows the tower rooms, as having a flat panel TV and updated furnishings. Despite not having these this room, was still very nice. The staff at the hotel and the casino were very friendly and helpful. Also this hotel offers a number of food options including the Grand Cafe that features 3 course meals starting at just $9.99. In addition to the great dinning option they also offers a shuttle to and from the airport and the strip (Hotwire shows, as only being able for what are the tower rooms, but it is also also available for courtyard rooms, as a cousin booked a courtyard room and used the shuttle) This hotel is located right off of I-15 at Sahara just west of the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. Just note this hotel is not in middle of action on strip, but is great for those who are looking for a good value or those who just don't want to spend a arm and two legs for a room. If I am able to get a rate like this again through Hotwire I will take it in a heartbeat.
  3. Sorry I forgot to include that the zone was Downtown Denver.
  4. Hi all After a few days worth of bidding I was able to get a room at the 3* Sheraton Denver Hotel for a bid of $55 for the night of 08/05/08. My total cost for the hotel is $69.77, which is well below the $300 + rates listed at the Sheraton website and is less than rates I seen listed on the HOTWIRE section of the website. Michael
  5. Thanks In the past I have paid for between $120 and $150, but we were not staying at a 4*star either. My friend told me that I should give his strategy a try, as he has gotten nicer rooms for a price well below those of 2* and 2 1/2* room. I was hoping to spend no more than $75 for a room. Only thing is that I forgot that the friend that is going with me will not use elevators and that is why we have not stayed at more than 2 1/2*, as they seem to be easier to get around using the stairs. In that case I will need to rethink which star levels I am bidding on. Also would for this lower star level (2 1/2* maybe) I would like to get a room for around $50. Thanks again Michael
  6. Hi all A friend and I will in Denver on August 5 for one night. In the past I have always avoided Priceline or Hotwire, so that I could get a specific hotel in a specific location. Well in any event this time I decided to give Priceline a try. As we still have almost 2 months I followed the advice of another friend that suggest I start with a low ball bid for 4*star hotel in downtown Denver or Cherry Creek. Following this advice I started to put in a bid of $35. When doing this I noticed a message that stated that my chances of the bid being accepted was low. After playing around with my bid i found that it went away at $49, but decided to check out this board and found out that I should ignore it. I did and reentered my first bid of $35. This bid was was rejected. Any advice other than increased my bid by a couple of dollars every few days. Thanks Michael :)
  7. Hi all I have been planning a trip to Toronto for some time in future and decided to check out Hotwire to see what rates they had to offer. In the process I noticed that they are providing some Tripadvisor information. That is to say that are listing average user score, as well number of reviews and last review date. Thinking that I could use the information provided by Hotwire such as location and the information from Tripadvisor to narrow the hotel being offering. Below are the results of my search. Hotwire information: 4* Hotel in Downtown Toronto West for $95 Tripadvisor information (provided on Hotwire): Traveler rating - 4.0 out of 5* based on 240+ reviews last reviewed on May 2007 Tripadvisor information from their site: 4* Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel Traveler rating - 4.0 our of 5* based on 255 reviews lated reviewed on June 2007 This seems like a good match to me. I am guessing that Hotwire may not provide the most up to date Tripadvisor details, but rather updates the information say once a month or so. Anyone else ever try to use this information to determine a possible match(es) for hotels offered on Hotwire? If so, did you have any success? Thanks Michael
