Doubletree is nice for shopping, but hyatt is close to Taste of Chicago, fireworks, music in grant park, art institute. Also, I thought the sheets at doubletree were scratchy, though the suite was great. hope you enjoy your weekend!
NMA, just by geography, usually means north of river: Doubletree Suites, InterCont, and though not 100% sure probably Marriott, too.
Loop: hilton towers & palmer house.
Not familiar with wyndham. sorry.
I just bought Omni Suites in Chicago NMA $100 + $20.95 taxes.

A couple of years ago we stayed in an Apart-otel (apartment/hotel) neas Les Halles. It was pretty large. A bedroom, double-bed, sitting room w/fold-out couch, kitchen-dining area, fully furnished with dishes, stove, etc. Very convenient to several subway lines. And BEST of all, free breakfast with fabulous croissants, coffee, hot chocolate, etc.! Not that expensive, either.
