  1. Hotwire had this hotel at $169 a night.

1st bid was $130. Got a counter for $171 and knew 90% of that would win it ($154). But still wanted to re-bid in smaller increments, so I continued.

    $140 Rebid Vatican

    $150 Rebid North

$154 Rebid West and won it.

Lowest rate direct is $258 USD or 199 euros. So I basically saved 40%. Very please with this win! :)

Used the PRICELINE link on the site.

    Thanks!

  2. There is no way to avoid not getting a particular hotel if it's in within the star range. It's a free for all for all 5* hotels in that zone, so definitely do not bid $130 as this could (and probably would) put you at the Trump and you will have overpaid. When I won the Wynn on PL I first checked hotwire to see my options. Trump was not coming up, so I felt somewhat safe when bidding that I would not get Trump. But as with PL, there are no guarantees which hotel you'll get, so it's an early start to your gambling trip when you use PL.

If you absoultely do not want to stay at the Trump, then I would not use PL since there is no way to avoid not getting this (or a particular) hotel. Your other option would be to search online for Wynn promo codes. I've seen some codes with rates starting as low as $109 per night. Hope this helps!

  3. I also wanted to mention that this hotel charges an energy fee. It is $2.75 per day, I think. I don't know if other area hotels do the same or not, but you might want to call them and find out to determine what to bid and whether it is worth bidding 2.5* only to save a couple of bucks when you are going to be hit with an extra charge at this hotel.

Exactly why IMO I'd never bid 2.5 star for this area. This hotel was recently downgraded from 3* back in October and for obvious reasons. At any rate though, you can easily get a 3* for $40 - $45, so I would not bother bidding below 3*. I recently got the Embassy Suites which is a 3.5* (upgraded from 3*) for $45 a night, so again all the more reason why getting stuck at this hotel is not worth it. While the lobby is nice, that's about it for this place.

  4. Just won this bid yesterday. Used the PRICELINE link from this site. Lowest rate on Gran Melia's site is $168.

First bid $75 rejected, added rebid zone for $80 and it was accepted.

This was a last minute trip to Cancun and I bought my air from spirit for $29 each way yesterday too :)! So overall, I am very pleased with the outcome! :)

Just as an added tip for additional savings, if you win this resort make sure you sign up for the MAS card with SolMelia. It's free to sign-up and offers a buy 1, get 1 free breakfast each day (and a few other freebies) for all cardholders.
