  1. There was no upgrade notice on the screen. I have to say this was an excellent hotel that I would stay in again without hesitation. It was worthy of a 4* rating in my opinion. BTW The show was great!!!
  2. Just won on P/L the Renaissance Plantation hotel for 5/1-5/2. Accepted first bid for a 3* with my bid being $60. Maybe I started a little too high??? I was not optimistic as there is a Jimmy Buffett concert in that zone on 5/1 that we are attending. Research hotels we knew and most hotels were coming up with no occupancy or much higher prices when planning the trip. Hotwire had a 3* for $83 so I wasn't dissapointed when receiving a room for less on P/L. Checked the winning bids for P/L and the Renaissance was listed as a 4* hotel so maybe this was a good deal. Never paying retail price is ALWAYS a good deal :) Wasting away in Magaritaville....... jr
  3. Have been shopping for April 9 to 11 in Phoenix. After entering query for this in Hotwire today a 4.5* came back for $98 in Central Phoenix (Phoenix Inner). The info is listed below. Very happy with Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs!!! Best on their site for the same room is $189. How can you beat that for such a unique property. Trip advisor's comments area had a customer indicate a daily resort fee of $9 per room per day. Info read here gave me the tips and would like to thank you all for the work on this site. It's awesome. Customer Favorite (Names and quotes given are listed below hotel info FYI) Resort restaurant swimming fitness business golf tennis spa Customer Fav Best Value $98 Two nights @$98 = $ 176.00 taxes and fees = $ 27.95 TOTAL = $ 223.95
  4. I live in this area. This sounds like a typical rate as that is our off-season. That would serve these folks well since they are probably able to rent it out for a good bit more during season. There are a large number of these deals on Ft. Myers Beach since so many units are vacant. For that money I would think you might find something larger and in a nice spot. If you post the info I'll be glad to give you feedback about the specific spot. If you already have it I'm sure you'll enjoy the area. best of luck
  5. Looking at your post again and it appears the difference in rates is pretty substantial. We stayed for the weekend in July 03 and paid around $85 which we felt was a fair price.
  6. Used Hotwire last summer and it was the Crowne Plaza (4*). Nice hotel. On the beach. Good part of South Beach as its just north of Ocean Drive within short walking distance to all the action but not where its packed with traffic and extremely loud. It was only a few more $ when I booked for the 4.5 but we took the less expensive option. If the 4.5* is the Loews and the price is to your liking I would definitely book there. Didn't see the rooms but the resort looked beautiful. Great pool area on the beach. Let us know if you go that route. best of luck
  7. The Crowne Plaza in the Universal Zone was a great stay for our trip last Nov. over Thanksgiving. I won a bid on Hotwire for that hotel. I'm doing the best I can to remember the details as I didn't know about this board until last week. I think it was a 4* and we paid $48 and with fees it was around 57 or so. The hotel has a great Sports Bar in the lobby with a very nice pool area. Great proximity to Universal and City Walk. About a block off Int'l Drive so you are near a number of restaurants and shopping. Disney isn't far. Can't say enougth nice things as the rooms very clean and fairly new. Can't believe how cheap it was. Sorry that I don't recall exact price and rating. best of luck
  8. Thanks to bbbb and Spitfire20003 for the help! I continued to rebid on PL yesterday following the strategy they explained. Started at $85 then followed with $90, 95 and then tried $99 as recommended above. I rec'd a room at the Venetian for $99! Great deal!!!!! Can't thank you all enough for the guidance and support. I've used Hotwire frequently over the last two years and knowing that this site is available makes it even better. First time using PL yesterday. Was always hesistant until reading this forum. Traveling to Phoenix before proceeding to Vegas (and the Venetian). Arriving at 7 PM so just wanted a room for the night that was decent before we head to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Checked HW and there was a 3.5* for $37 a night. Took the offer and its a Wyndam Hotel Phoenix Airport on 44th St. It was in the Airport Zone when conducting the search. Where in the forum should I add this to help others? You have been great help and I appreciate the patience with a newbie. I'll try and help with the Hotwire experiences I've had in the past if that is beneficial to anyone. I've used them for bookings in Chicago, Orlando, Miami Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami Airport area. A good day to all...... :)
  9. Would I just include another zone with a 5* at $90? Confused about free rebids..... Where can I read about that? thanks
  10. I'm trying to find the best price (aren't we all :) ) for a 5* on the strip with a check in date of 4/6 (Tues) with a 4/9 checkout (Friday). New to this board and tried to read posts this morning to work on achieving the best deal. Checked Hotwire and a 5* on the strip was priced at $122. It was a customer favorite. Assuming it's the Venetian but can't go wrong with the limited options at that quality level. Went to Priceline and then bid $85 (starting low). They came back offering the room at $110 a night. Didn't accept as I wanted to check on my strategy and your advice on my efforts so far. We have a back-up at the MGM Grand for $103 a night so we are in good shape there I think. Its an upgraded Grand Tower room w/2 Queens. Thanks for your help!
