  1. Hoping this is a pretty nice place?? If I got any higher in bidding I was going to do the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for what looked to be the Hyatt. So what can you tell me about this place? Is it close to a train I can get on for going back and forth to Hyde Park (Univ of Chic)?
  2. SaturnMom- I am going to be in Chicago on the same dates (moving my son to college). I also didn't know about the triathlon so am experiencing the same problem you are! I will tell you that I tried bidding on a 4 star and got up to $150 and was denied. I also didn't realize all the fees they tack on, probably because I've never booked for so many nights before. But at the price of $150/night for 3 nights it was going to be almost $600 for the 3 nights. Best of luck and I'll be watching what you do!
  3. I believe we have decided to try rent an apartment for the first night because we can get a place in Hyde Park for 1/2 the price of any hotel on that night (and she's throwing in her code for Uber so we'll get a free ride from the airport) Then we are going to try to name our own price for the 20th-22nd since prices seem to be around $110-$125 on the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals for the 4 star. What would you start your bidding at? Can you typically get a better price than the Express Deal or is that the lowest they go?
  4. If you could choose between the Hyatt, Allerton, the Whitehall or the Hotel Chicago which would you do? If I tried the name my own price again, would you suggest as soon as possible or waiting a few days? I'd love to stay all 3 nights in the same place if possible.
  5. My son is living in a dorm on campus, so the hotel is just for my husband and myself. I'm not opposed to Lincoln Park as long as there is a train nearby to get me to campus ;) I looked on Hotwire and didn't see a 4 star hotel for $120? Was that just for the 19th or the entire stay? I'd like to stay around $450 for the 3 nights if possible, that is why I was excited about the cheaper prices on the 2nd & 3rd days!
  6. I'm moving my son up to University of Chicago and need some advice. He will already be in Chicago doing a week long "get to know Chicago experience" so he is not really a factor in my hotel decision (just giving this info for background) It seems that on 9/19 all hotels are extremely expensive - around $280/night, then on 9/20 & 9/21 the prices drop to $107-$125. The hotels I can figure out are the Hyatt on Wacker which is a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for $125 and the Allerton for $107. Before I figured out the prices dropped so drastically on the 2nd and 3rd nights, I did Priceline bidding for a 4 star in the area and got up to $149/night for the entire 3 night stay but it was rejected. I believe I used all of the tricks on here and ended up bidding 7 different times - all which were rejected. So my question is this - what do I try next? Do I try again for naming my own price for the 3 nights? Do I buy a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for the last 2 nights and just try to get a decent price on my first night there at a cheaper hotel maybe by the airport - we are coming in Midway but even those don't look very cheap? Between the Hyatt and the Allerton which would you choose? Is one closer to the train to take us to UofC? Thanks for any advice!
  7. Any suggestions for Italian, Thai or Mexican would be appreciated! Is our hotel close to the Metra you talked about for getting to U of C and is it easy to navigate? How about getting from Midway to the hotel? How much would a taxi be for 2 people? Thanks!
  8. I went with your suggestion and did the Hotwire 4.5 star and it was indeed the Swissotel! (I hope I posted the win correctly and I did go through your Hotwire link to purchase) Bars/restaurants for having drinks at night - something fun but casual. I like the idea of the Signature Room for one night though. Is there anything by the water? If it's nicer weather in a couple weeks, we'll check out the zoo. My son will be living on campus so I'll only need hotels for visiting ... for the next 4 years :)
  9. Thank you so much for your response! Which hotel would you suggest? We are both 45 and have been to Chicago a couple times. This trip we'll be spending a day at U of Chicago and then we'd like to go to the aquarium and the Bean on our off day. A place to get drinks at night would be a plus! Something with a view would be preferred. I've been checking out the aquarium and it seems you either get the cheap $8 ticket and can possibly wait in line for an hour to get this or buy online and spend $35/ticket. Are these really the only options? One last question - what is going to be the fastest way to get to U of C? I've been told the bus or the metra - and to be honest I live in a city that doesn't do public transportation (Kansas City) so I'm not familiar with either.
  10. We are traveling 4/8-4/10 there are 2 hotels coming up on Hotwire that I'm interested in: My son will be doing a couple overnights at the Univ of Chicago and we are going along to check out the city. Any help would be appreciated! 4 1/2 star for $88 Boutique - 90% recommended Indoor pool Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Self laundry Internet Tennis nearby 4 star for $103 - 95% recommended Free internet Smoke free rooms Fitness Restaurant Business There is also a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal from Priceline for 4 star for $96, Guest rating 8+ (Mill. park, Loop, Grant Park) Pool Fitness Business
  11. Thanks to "watchingusa" for figuring out this was indeed likely the Sheraton! We never booked a room for this night - but will know for future reference :)
  12. OK - I get it and I clicked on the link to search. So any ideas?
  13. We did not book a room for this night, just drove home instead.
  14. Hotwire has a hotel listed in Overland Park, 4 star, non smoking, fitness, pool, restaurant, bus. cent. and wifi. The dates I'm looking at are 6/9-6/10 and the price it is quoting is $77. Any ideas? I didn't know there were any 4 star properties in OP.
  15. I'm looking on Hotwire for a room for tonight 5/22 in Downtown KC. It's pulling up a 3 1/2 star with fitness center, pool, restaurant, bus. center, and wifi I'm thinking it might be the Crowne, but on the Hotwire list the Crowne is posted a 3 star. I can get it for $81 on Hotwire, but if I can figure out if it is definitely the Crowne, then I'm going to try my hand with Priceline first to see if I can get it cheaper :) Any help would be appreciated!
  16. I don't believe this hotel has been listed yet :) Boutique Hotel Fitness Center Restaurant Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access
  17. It states the following amenities for $69 shuttle breakfast fitness pool business center high speed internet
  18. Started at $39, then $44, then finally $49. This is great information escpecially around this time of the year when graduation is here and family is visiting! Thanks again :)
  19. Amenities: Non-smoking Fitness Pools Restaurant Business Center High Speed Internet The curious thing about this is that Hotwire lists the Radisson as a 3* hotel but has this one listed as a 3 1/2*.
  20. First time trying Priceline - so thanks for all of the wisdom and facts from this board. My first bid was $105 - rejected :) So I added Midway area and bid $125 - and up popped the Omni! I'm excited and off to read reviews on our hotel. Thanks again!
