  1. We just completed another visit to Disneyland with yet another grand kid.  This was the first time we stayed at the Red Lion and I had some reservations based on some negative comments left on this forum.  I had no issues with the hotel at all.   It was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was first class and gave us a room with queen beds.  We have stayed, courtesy of wins on PriceLine through Better Bidding, at the Wyndham and Marriott Suites while visiting Disneyland.  All three of these hotels are 3 1/2 star hotels.  On that scale the Red Lion would be at the lower end of 3 1/2 stars.  The rooms are smaller and the bathrooms are dated.

They did have a resort fee of $10.75 with $1.82 tax and a guest parting fee of $14.00.  That was an additional $26.58 in cost.  The Marriott did not have any additional fees and the Wyndham had a $14 fee that covered free transportation to and from Disneyland.

But, the Red Lion, for us, has one big plus.  A huge plus.  It is within walking distance to Disneyland.  It is a half mile away and pushing a stroller it was a ten minute walk to where the buses drop you off and another 3 minutes to the entrance.  Very cool.

I honestly believe you can't go wrong with any of these three hotels.  If I had my choice, I would take the Red Lion just for the convenience of walking to Disneyland.

  2. They dont offer a free shuttle, but route 6 of the area resort transit stops right in front of the hotel (http://www.rideart.org/route-map/) and they have a kiosk for purchasing the shuttle tickets right there, too.  It's been a couple years since I stayed at Red Lion, but I remember the shuttle being better then the other hotel's free shuttles because it showed up very frequently and was dependable.

    Good info, thanks.

  3. Thanks for the heads up.  I just did some digging on the net & you are correct.  They charge $14 per day for parking and another $11 per day for a "resort" fee.  That's an additional $25 per night.  All this and they don't offer a shuttle to Disneyland.  However, it is only a .6 mmile walk to Disneyland.  I will add to this post after my stay.

  4. I have stayed at both the Marriott Suites and Wyndham Inn (both 3 1/2 stars also) while visiting Disneyland and will now give the Red Lion a try.  One thing I noticed is that this hotel is so close to Disneyland we should be able to walk there.

I started out at $52 and worked my way up to the win at $70.  The bid before the $70 was $67.  With the $5 travel insurance, taxes and fees the total was $92.12.

As always, I used BetterBidding's site for the PRICELINE link to start my searches & to make my purchase.

  5. This was our second stay at the Marriott Suites after winning both stays on Price.line by bidding through the BetterBidding link.  This one was $75 and the one in February was $52.  This is a great hotel.  Nice rooms, great staff and great for Disneyland. They charge $5 for adults and $2 for kids per days for a shuttle ride to Disneyland; $14.00 for a family of four. The Wyndham Inn next door adds on a $14 fee for the internet, pool and shuttle.  I recommend using the shuttle if visiting Disneyland.  Parking at Disneyland is $17 and it takes a lot longer to drive, park, walk and take their shuttle than it does using the hotels shuttle.

One note that applies for anyone using Priceline or any other third party booking a room.  When we arrived the desk clerk had no record of our reservation.  None.  After reviewing the paperwork that I printed out from my Priceline win she made it work and got us a room.  Without the print out it would have been a lot more effort.

    Thanks again BetterBidding.

  6. We are taking one of the grand kids to Disneyland again.  Our earlier trips were on 8/26/2014 and 9/25/2014.  I got both of those 3.5 star rooms through BetterBidding/Priceline bidding; $75 for one night at the Wyndham and the other at the Marriott Suites for $75.

This time I wanted to try a 4 star hotel.  I went back on Priceline via BetterBidding for a December stay. I started out at $55 and increased my bids up to $90 until I got it. The last bid before the $90 was $89.  With fees & the $5 travel insurance it came out to $115.49.  This is $17 more than I paid for the other 3.5 star hotels.  However, it appears that this Marriott charges $24 per day for parking.

We'll see how it works out.  I may end up returning to the 3,5 star Marriott Suites or Wyndham, both of which I enjoyed. I will report back after the stay!

As usual I used BetterBidding's site for the PRICELINE links to start my purchase and searches.

  7. Our stay at the Wyndham was perfect.  They upgraded us to a nice room without a problem.  The hotel staff was great and the room was clean and quiet.  We utilized the shuttle service to Disneyland and highly recommend it.  It runs every 30 minutes and drops you off very close to the entrance of Disneyland.  I read several reviews where there were complaints over parking.  I have to disagree.  There is a ton of parking behind the hotel.

  8. We are taking grand kids to Disneyland on separate days.  The first trip on 8/26/2014 and the second on 9/25/2014.  I bought the first hotel room for the August stay yesterday through BetterBidding/Priceline bidding; $75 for one night at the Wyndham.

This morning I went back on Priceline via BetterBidding for the September stay and started out at $55 and increased my bids by $5.  I got the Marriott Suites for $75.  With fees & the $5 travel insurance it came out to $98.23.  We stayed at the Marriott Suites in February and liked it.

As usual I used BetterBidding's site for the PRICELINE links to start my purchase and searches.

    This a great place!  Thanks!

  9. I was looking for a room by Disneyland for one night.  I started out at $55 and increased my bids by $5.  I got it at $75.  With fees & the $5 travel insurance it came out to $98.14.  If I had bought it through Wyndeim's site it would have been $178.67.  I'll take a $80.53 savings at a nice hotel any day.

As usual I used BetterBidding's site  for the PRICELINE links to start  my purchase and searches.

Is this a great place or what!!  I will be back!

  10. Thanks Derek. I wish you had posted this a tad earlier. I booked a suite through LMT at the Warwick for $194 last night. I wasn't willing to push it. I checked several hotels for that weekend and they are sold out. Hotwire shows good deals on the weekends before and after that weekend. In the end, we did OK. And, I booked the last room at the Warwick that LMT had available.

Thanks for all the pointers and postings. Is this a great place or what?

  11. Thanks for the replies. I am spoiled as far as price and hotels. The last three years I have gotten them a four star for under $100. Using the PRICELINE link on this board I am now up to $200 on a four star, $136 for a three and a half star and $105 for a 3 star in four areas. The best three star on Hotwire (through the link on this forum) is almost $200.

I tried last minute travel and put a request in on a hotel. After 2 days I called them and they said there were no rooms left. They never emailed me back. Between them, Hotwire and Priceline and this great forum, I will find a room for them.
