  1. We thought we could get a good deal in the zones we wanted...more mid town, but tried every available re-bid for a 3.5 or 4*(15) and nothing worked on Thursday, Tried again the next night, It was 9:30 Friday night and we needed to leave for the city in the AM...so we added the Financial district and went a bit higher. The W is very modern and not really our taste, but it was great. we had a room on the 22 floor over looking the WTC Memorial. OUr son decided to stay with us and we asked if we could get a room with 2 beds and they said it would cost $25. No big deal, very nice hotel, wonderful tea and coffee and great sitting area, with an outside deck. The financial district was quiet and that was actually nice. Subway down on Saturday night was fine, but several trains were closed Sunday morning. All in all a great visit.

Used the PRICELINE link on better bidding.

  2. I have used your site numerous times and love the information I get. I have been successful every time I try Priceline(starting at your site first!), so THANKS :D for that! I am looking for a 3.5 or 4 star in boston for the dates above. I know my bidding strategy as I visit there 3 times a year. I noticed you mentioned there was a rather large convention this past weekend. Do you know of any such convention that might be filling up rooms for the coming weekend, Oct 12-14th? Thanks

  3. Won $130

Last minute attempt for Boston for the July 4th weekend.

Started at Copley 3.5* $120, failed but said I could bid 150 to be successful. Added Fenway for $125 (no 3.5 or 4*'s there) failed, added Quincy $128. failed. Added Waterfront for $130. Won 4* Hyatt Regency. Not sure if Hyatt is considered waterfront, or if I added something other than waterfront to get it, but either way I am happy with result. We don't usually care what area we stay in as long as we get a deal!!!!

    Thanks.

  4. I am looking for a hotel in Midtown Manhattan for Tuesday July17 for one night. 3* or 4*, would like to keep it under $150. Maybe less for a 3*. when I checked Priceline (using the savingsbarn.com link!) they did not have much available. Does that mean that there might not be much available for the Name Your Own Price? does that make sense??

Had great success in the Spring for NYC and LA using Name your own price, hoping to get lucky again!

    Thanks for your help.

  5. This Hotel is great. Very 4*! Outside waiting area for a very efficient Valet parking (May 2007 - $30). Lobby was very spacious with seating. Concierge very helpful, could have used a bit of cheer, but otherwise helpful!

Check-in was good. Our first room smelled of smoke even though they said it was a no smoking room. They upgraded us to a suite...wow! The original room looked like it was going to be great, but the suite was fabulous. Sofa, chairs, desk TV, honor Bar in "living room". Had to ask for Coffee maker. Huge bathroom with separate shower and tub. Sink was outside the bathroom. Great bathrobes! Great king bed with tons of pillows. Balcony with chairs and some views. Pool was small but just what we needed. hot Tub. Great lounge chairs with cushions and pillows and plush towels. Overall a great stay.

The hotel is located in more of a business district. There is a Ralph's food store around the corner on Olympic. The Westfield Mall, with a great food court, is nearby on Santa Monica Blvd. St. Timothy's Catholic Church within walking distance on Pico!!

  6. The day the bid was accepted I had gone to $98 and they came back with 'raise your bid $22 and we can get a room"

The day before that, I had bid $100 and got that same message. I did not take advantage of it at $100, but did the next day at $98, so I felt like a saved a little....Funny thing about this bidding is you are psyched with what you get but then always left with the sinking feeling..."could I have gotten it for LESS"!

Thanks so much for all your help. Now I want to start planning another trip!! :)

  7. Yesterday I went through my strategy for the 4* in West HOllywood. When I got to $100 Priceline came back with "if you raise your bid $22 we can get a room for you" I didn't do it because my sister started to panic about being in a 4* and spending too much. But truthfully when I went back to all the Expedia/Orbitz sites, most of the 2 stars would have cost us the same as the $122 bid. She is worried about the expense of parking. Also it seems like most 2* are on the side of a highway.

Should I just use my same strategy again today and hope for the best?
