The SFA Intercontinental is the other 4* in DT Austin. The Driskill is not offered on priceline. The Hyatt isn't that far from the central part of DT, and is off on town lake. Its a $5 cab ride to central DT. I have bid priceline for 4* Austin downtown hotels 10-20 times and have not once picked up the Hyatt. If you were "unlucky" and get the Hyatt, it is still a very nice place to be and is a very short walk to the other downtown hotels.
Bid 4* $62... Rejected Bid 4* $67... Rejected Bid 4* $73... Rejected Bid 4* $80... Accepted All of the Austin 4* Hotels are downtown so it doesn't matter which area you bid after you get rejected.
7/1-7/6 Bid $12 compact, rejected, was asked if i wanted to rebid compact at a higher price Bid $14 compact, rejected, changed to midsize Bid $16, accepted
7/5/07-7/6/07 Bid 3* Cleveland (Airport) $32; not accepted added Airport South zone (no 3*) $38; not accepted added Elyria zone (no 3*) $42; Accepted Used savingsbarn link
FYI, when you purchase this Omni there are TWO towers. The people at the Omni decide where they want to place you, not Hotwire. I was given the Marina Tower when I called Omni even though the HOTWIRE reservation reads "Omni Bayfront/Marina Tower". I would be willing to bet that they place most of the Hotwire/Priceline reservations in the Marina Tower. The Bayfront Tower is the nicer one of the two (Bayfront is 4 diamond, Marina is 3 diamond - per the Omni Hotel website). When you book your reservation through HOTWIRE be sure and give Omni a call and try to request the Bayfront Tower. My request went through so I will now be staying at the Bayfront. :) Also, for future travelers, this hotel (both Towers) recently (May '07) went through a $4M + renovation.
I purchased this in Feb, but forgot to post it. This Hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access
That would be the Hilton Garden Inn (its listed under the Crowne Plaza on this sites Hotwire list, its no longer a 3 star). I wouldnt recommend staying there, it is certainly not a 3.5 star or anything close. Try the Omni (South Park) down south (South/Airport - 3.5 star) or bid something on Priceline for downtown. I am not sure what the 3.5 star is up north but it could be the Doubletree up that way, which is really nice.
that courtyard would be a pretty good spot to be. the other closer hotels are the hyatt and the embassy suites south of the river. there is not many (or any, that i can think of) hotel choices down right by zilker.
the downtown area is the closest you will get to zilker. you arent going to find anything cheap ($100 for a 3/4*) during that weekend though (acl fest).
