  1. We ended up at the Hilton Fort Collins as they had a 25% off Visa rate and we were able to book the Exec. Floor for under $100.00. Thanks for all your help!
  2. Thereuare - Thanks for putting some perspective on this. As far as savings - It needs to be at least 25 to 35% since this is only a one night stay. Any 3.5 star would work for us. The Marriott rate is pretty good and can be cancelled that day if I book it on their website vs. Hilton's 5 day. I may book the Marriott and still look at Priceline. If nothing else, it has taken away most of my fear of bidding on PRICELINE - thank you!
  3. I'm open to advice - Do you think I should raise the bid? As far as the Hotwire rate I will keep that in mind but from the Hotwire Hotels list it may be the Holiday Inn and I'm still hoping for the Marriott or Hilton as they are closer to the college. I know it's not guaranteed but they seem to be the hotels that show up the most often. Marriott has some specials right now for $79/night and if PRICELINE doesn't work out I will just book a reservation there. Thanks again for your help!
  4. I used the strategy below this morning and my bids were all rejected. I will try again tomorrow.
  5. So, should I still bid on a 3* even if I want 3.5*?
  6. Question - if I want Marriott or Hilton wouldn't I bid 3.5 star instead of 3 star?
  7. I'd like to go with 3.5 star and $62.00 would be my maximum.
  8. Troy - thanks for the info. We have stayed at that Hilton several times but never bid through PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for this hotel - just regular booking. Trying to get a better rate this time as we don't have a pet with so we can stay anywhere! We also think it's very nice. Thereuare - I did update my Chicago thread but no longer remember the particulars - I apologize and I no longer have the confirmation. Yes, the Marriott and Hilton are in that shaded area. As far as having three people if it comes down to it my daughter can just stay in her dorm. We are spending a few nights in Estes with her so she will at least be away from the dorms for awhile. I see HOTWIRE does have a 3 Star for $49 with Fitness, Pool and Internet which we may consider but would prefer the Hilton if we can get it as it is the closest hotel to campus. Again, thanks for your advice - it is so appreciated!
  9. Just wanted to update this thread per a request on this board. Our first two nights were at The Intercontinental. We added an additional night to our stay and made a last minute reservation (just before we left for the airport!) with Hotwire for two nights and it ended up being The James Hotel for $199 a night. It was more than I wanted to pay but ended up being a great hotel. My daughter loved it so it was worth it! We had a great time in Chicago.
  10. I've used HOTWIRE but never PRICELINE before. We are currently booked at the Hilton on Prospect for $109+ AAA rate for Sunday, October 4th - 3 adults. I've read a few posts and it looks like this is the 3.5 star hotel on PRICELINE but could also be the Marriott based on location shown. Looking for advice on how much to bid. Thanks for your help!
  11. Thanks as usual Aaron. I think I'll wait until closer to the date and maybe something else will show up unless I can save at least $100. The breakfast is probably worth at least $35-40 at the Intercontinental so that puts it closer to $239 plus tax.
  12. I'm looking for assistance again (Aaron are you there)? I have a Hotwire Reservation for 5/12-5/15 at the Intercontinental at a great rate thanks to your help. I made a reservation directly with the Intercontinental for the last night 5/15 at $279.00 (which includes breakfast) which I may keep but I saw this 3 star on Hotwire and wondered if it was the Hilton Garden Inn? It may be worth it to move for the savings. Any thoughts? It lists Fitness, Swimming, Dining, Business Center and Hi-Speed. Again, thanks for all of your previous help - we are really looking forward to this trip.
  13. thereuare - I forgot to add that it is a Customer Favorite Thanks again Aaron - many options. I have also thought about bidding on Priceline or reserving a hotel I can cancel and seeing what shows up on Hotwire but I would want to stay in the general area.
  14. Thereuare Dates 5/12-5/15 $83 Hotwire 4* Intercontinental - went through board's HOTWIRE link Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center & Hi-speed as amenities Aaron, thanks for the great info! I thought they just did a major renovation a few years ago. Is there an area I should request? We are coming in from Midway and hope to take the train to our hotel. (We hope to keep our luggage to a minimum). Do people take luggage on the trains and do they walk down the street with their luggage? I'm used to driving to our destination or just taking the train into big cities to spend the day. We've never been to Chicago but are really looking forward to it. Your options for our last night are a real possibility and it might be fun to change and get a look at another hotel.
  15. I finally did it.... and it is the Intercontinental so I'm very happy. Thanks so much for finding this Aaron - I never would have found it on my own. Now I need a plan for the last night but I will make a reservation I can cancel at the Intercontinental and see what else I can find. Again, thanks so much. Dates 5/12-5/15 $83 Hotwire 4* Intercontinental - went through board's HOTWIRE link
  16. I do see it's back on again... any thoughts as to what it is?
  17. That one is gone now too.... this is a lesson for me to strike while the iron is hot!
  18. Well you snooze you lose.... I was really warming up to the Intercontinental idea and now I'll have to think about the Swiss - have not even looked at that one. I'll just hang tight as time is still on my side.
  19. Well, I'm thinking this may no longer by the Intercontinental as it has a 4 star trip advisor rating. I was going to hit the buy button and remembered what you said about the 3.5 rating. Could it be another hotel?
  20. Well, I might win the bid for the most posts lately! Again thanks.... I don't mean to be so picky. I just want to choose well and have a good time. We've stayed at places from camping, cabins with no baths to the Prince in Hawaii and there are times when I would have preferred the cabin with no bath or camping because of hotel circumstances! Where you stay can make or break your trip but this does sound like a good choice. Do you have a favorite hotel in Chicago?
  21. Thanks - I will use those links if I decide to book. I would imagine they could link the reservations so we wouldn't have to change rooms. Also, if it did come up on Hotwire for that last date I could book it and cancel the full price res. Have either of your stayed there? It sure has mixed reviews.
  22. Thanks to you both... you are so helpful. I will think about this strategy. I have changed hotels which is why I hate doing it. It does take more time than you think... packing up, checking out, bringing our luggage to the new hotel, checking in and storing the luggage. So much easier to just get up and begin your day and if there's any problems at either hotel it just adds to this. I don't mind changing hotels when I'm on the road but when I've reached my destination I just want to settle in and spend my time seeing the sites. If we were staying in the last hotel for more than 1 night I would be game. Edit.... After reading about the Intercontinental I am becoming more interested... how long do you think it will be on Hotwire or do you think it will show up later?
  23. Thanks again Aaron.... if it shows up on Hotwire for all 4 nights I will grab it. Any chance I would get this hotel on my Priceline bid if I added the Midway and went up in price or waited until tomorrow? The Country Inn and Suites looks good, too. Great reviews and less expensive than the HGI...
