  1. This will for sure be more useful as more time goes by and the history for this feature builds. I'm going to NYC next month. Since this is a busier time of year, I had gone back many many pages of threads to see what wins people had for around the same time of year one year prior. This will eventually make thisi kind of search much much easier for people. Great idea, and Thank you!!!
  2. I'm sorry to say that I was asleep in the recliner when my wife got that win. She didn't know about using your link- sorry :) . However, I'm handling the arrangements for our Oct NYC trip and have been using the savingsbarn link when I bid on Priceline.
  3. giantgiraffe, just an FYI. I've been bidding on priceline for sometime for NYC Tue 10/9/07 to Sun 10/14/07, not too far away from your time. We have a backup reservation for $299 / night + tax etc. I have been bidding on 4* in MTW, MTE, CPS and have been going up to $240 w/o any luck. Again, not the same time window as your stay, but close- also, we're staying 5 nights so that might make it tougher for us compared to you to get a win. good luck!
  4. Amenities: Complimentary Breakfast Pool(s) Fitness Center
  5. As of this weekend, I have been rejected thus far on PL- MTE, MTW, UM/CPS at $235 for 10/09/07 thru 10/14/07.
  6. thanks for the reply and sorry for the mispost- i thought i posted that in the HW forum :)
  7. so far her and i both like the Millenium UN Plaza because it seems decent and has great views of the city at night. we like it because of being able to sleep during the night w/o sirens and honking horns and the views. the con to that is she isn't one to venture out a lot on her own, especially in a large city. So, if it's a walk to times square etc, she might stay in the room for the two days I am there on business. this is why i might try to convince her to stay closer to times square (although for me, the Millenium UN isn't all THAT far away from times square). i think she also liked "the library hotel" but it was either way too $$ or booked solid for our stay.

  9. I have a feeling I'm looking at the same hotel on HW. 3* MTC Fitness High Speed Internet Restaurant(s) 10-9-07 to 10-14-07 $239 /nt (Retail price listed in strikethrough text is $286) Trip Advisor rating 3.5 based on 120+ Customer Reviews. 10. FYI- I read a ton of reviews on trip advisor on the Affinia Manhattan. I'm not as picky as my wife on hotel rooms. I saw numerous reviews in which guests complained of carpet smell in both rooms and hallways- smells ranging from mold / mildew to urine. Also complaints of window unit air conditioners which let in street noise (noise from active fire station beside or across from the hotel. The hotel responded to some of the negative reviews on trip advsior. I emailed the general manager because one of his staff mentioned upcoming renovations- i saw some bad reviews of other hotels that had construction going on- ie waking up to jack-hammer noise at 7am etc. Anyhow, the gen manager said the construction won't begin until early 2008. I also voiced concerns my wife would have about smelly rooms etc. Here is his reply to me: "Thank you for your interest in the Affinia Manhattan. Our renovation will not begin until beginning of 2008, therefore there definitely will not be any construction during your stay with us. Do you currently have reservation with us? I would be more then happy blocking a nice suite for you. Please let me know if you have confirmation number available yet." I don't know if that means he's willing to give us a suite for the price of a queen room or not, but I have a feeling my wife just won't go for the place, based on some of the bad reviews (although there a lot of excellent reviews). Anyhow, as an FYI, I have been rejected thus far on PL- MTE, MTW, UM/CPS at $175 for 10/09/07 thru 10/14/07.
  11. Pardon my ignorance :) , but I followed the link you gave for the Affinia Manhattan. When I put in the dates of our stay, the base rate comes up as $321, not $255. Did you put in my actual dates of 10/09/07 through 10/14/07? PS- do you ever sleep? LOL. You are a lean, mean, posting machine!
  12. I've been bid up to $145 or $150 so far. I hate to go too high this early. As I understand it, Oct is a somewhat premium time to go to NYC, but not as bad as Nov / Dec. What is your opinion on my chances of getting a room now and for what price? Do you think my price expectations are in line ($200 - $250)? What are your thoughts on bidding now, and how much? My thought is to test the water some now, but get serious about a month out. But, if i'm going there in a semi-busy time, is it NOT a good strategy to wait until a month from leaving for NYC? (will things be filling up too quickly etc?)
  13. Dates are: Arrive: Tuesday Oct 9th, 2007 Checkout: Sunday Oct 14th, 2007 Rate is $299 * 5 nights ========= 1,495 Base 218 Tax ========= 1,713 total I know this isn't a great rate, because HW has it listed for $259 (excl tax)/ night for the above dates ($1,295 base total), however, you can't cancel. PL is $299 (same as hotel's own web site). We've seen mixed reviews. I'm pretty sure this is a 4* on HW and a 3* on PL. Based on reviews, sounds like it's gone downhill a little bit (4* to 3* on PL). However, we really like some of the views of the Manhattan skyline shown on tripadvisor. I just cancelled a res. we had made at The Pod Hotel. That rate was $259 / night for a double bed. I was ok with it, but wife had issues with that place. Again, with that I was hoping that we could find a better deal on PL or HW a week or two before. Based on history of wins listed in this forum a year ago, i would expect to spend $200 to $250 / night for a 4* in Oct. Hopefully less, but who knows. Looks like the Fri and Sat kills us on the rates, but we can't change the dates we can be gone. And no, we won't consider splitting our stay. I'm open to MTW, MTE, UM/CPS. I'm attending a two day event at Radio City Music Hall during the day Wed Thur, then we're taking a couple days to do the tourist thing. I have used the subway in Washington DC which is a piece of cake. I'm a little nervous about figuring out the NYC subway system, but for sure not too afraid not to. I feel like the DC subway is the minor leagues, and NYC is the big leagues. My biggest concern is getting to RCMH on time for the first day, (i don't want to miss the first speaker) so depending on where we end up staying, if it's too far to walk because of distance or weather, i'll probably just allow some extra time to get there. Based on my understanding of NYC, you're better off taking the subway or walking during rush hour.
  14. just curious if anyone has ever had any problems with this: We're thinking of making a backup reservation at the Millenium UN Plaza hotel for our trip to NYC in Oct 07. My wife likes that hotel- we feel it might be a decent value. My concern is what if we make a cancellable reservation there, and then would happen to get a win at the same hotel for a much cheaper rate (either through PL or HW). Technically as long as we cancel the "backup" reservation far enough out, (it's 24 hr notice per their web site) there shouldn't be any penalties or charges. I just don't want to show up and have NO reservation because the hotel screwed up and cancelled both our "backup" reservation and the PL or HW win. I know I'm probably being paranoid about this, but I'm just curious if anyone has ever won the same place they had reserved as their backup, and if yes, were there any paperwork problems as a result? thanks in advance for your replies...
  15. do you think i could get a 3* for $130 for that time? i wasn't sure if the price was too low in general, or if some of the hotels don't even bother with priceline until closer to the actual dates, depending on how booked they are. when my dad got his deal for Atlanta, he got the room for a lot less than 50% of the "average retail rate" or whatever terminology priceline calls it. my wife and i aren't snooty travelers. i was just trying to find a nicer room for the money. i guess i would go $150 - $200, but for now, i'm just "fishing" for a few months to see if i get any bites on a cheap price. mainly, we want a nice clean room for a decent price. i have seen some of the cheaper 2* hotels with mixed reviews. some less picky people like us gave good reviews, but all it takes is one review that mentions bed bugs to make my wife freak out- not that i would enjoy having a room with bed bugs, but i imagine that even the best hotels have an occasional case of bed bugs, being in a heavily travelled city like NYC.
  16. My wife and I will be travelling to NYC in October of this year. We are combining business and pleasure. Check in Tues 10/9/07 checking out Sun 10/14/07. I am attending a function at Radio City Music Hall Wed & Thurs. We then plan to take Fri & Sat to look around and have fun. I have noticed that people have gotten 4* hotels recently for around $120 / $130, which is about the range I have been trying on Priceline. A few questions- Is it harder to find available rooms (as well as good prices) in October for the Midtown West section of NYC? I think I saw a blurb on a NYC tourist web site that new shows open on Broadway in October. I hate to wait until the last minute and then find that we can't get a room because everything is sold out because of broadway shows etc. How far in advance have you been able to get a good price on Priceline for MTW? Looks like most people are only getting deals 1 week or less in advance. My dad got a good deal on priceline several months in advance in Atlanta. I am trying for the MTW location so that i can walk to Radio City Music Hall for my thing and also not have to change hotels during our stay. I have used the subway system in Washington DC without problem but am a little concerned about trying to figure out the NYC subway system right away when i get in. I'm sure my wife and I will use the subway to go places at night and during our "fun" days, I'm just a little concerned about not being late for my event on the first morning. Any suggestions / comments appreciated. Thanks in advance.
