My wife, 18 mon old son and I are planning on staying on Cape Cod for 4 days in the middle of the week in August. Because of late date, and that we'll be there less than a week, we came to HOTWIRE to check out our options. We found a 3* hotel with the following amenities: non-smoking, fitness, pool, restaurant, internet, business center, golf. This was in Hyannis, Yarmouth, Dennis Port for $122. We were hoping that this would be the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, so we bought it. Well, it turned out the be the Raddison right across the street from the Barnstable Municipal Airport. Blah. FWIW, there was also the 2.5* International Inn in Hyannis listes as a Hotels.com hotel for $119.25. But I was wondering, what's with that golf icon? Turns out, when one mouses over the icon, it is the "golf nearby", which in Hotwire speak means within 5 miles. But these towns are all so small that EVERY hotel will have golf within 5 miles. I thought this was misleading on Hotwire's part, so I called (within an hour of booking!) to get them to unwind the deal. I got a CS rep who gave me the name of "Georgia". When I told her my situation, she put me on hold, said she called the hotel, and that they stated that there was golf w/in 3 miles, so that their icon was technically correct. When I asked her why didn't every Hyannis, etc. hotel have a golf icon, because they are all w/in 5 mi of a course, she again went to check. When she returned, she said that Hotwire intentionally sprinkles icons like the "golf nearby" one around to obscure the hotels, especially in smaller cities. I told her that I found that to be very misleading, as I'm making my decision based upon the amenities and price of that hotel compared to price and amenities of other nearby hotels. If the info that Hotwire displays is meant to mislead me, rather than allow me to make an informed decision, then I find this transaction to be deceptive and fraudulent. Georgia said that she can't help me. I then told her that Hotwire's description of 3* is "family-style rooms", and that this Raddison appears to be a business hotel, focused on conferences near the airport. If you go to the hotel website, 3 of the 10 pictures shown are of their conference facilities. And there is no mention of golf there. I told her that I was a frequent user of Hotwire, and that I'd be happy if she would cancel this hotel and give me Hotwire credit (so that they would still have my money) that I could use on another transaction, but she refused. Georgia said that she would send a "request" to "Research" about the types of rooms (family-style vs business/conference) and that I should hear back in 7-10 days. She was pleasant enough, but I'm pessimistic of any resolution here. Any suggestions on how to proceed? I don't give a flip about golf, but I do feel like I was mislead with that golf icon showing up on some, but not all, hotels when they all meet the Hotwire description. At this point I'm considering disputing the charge on my Visa. I'd also welcome any stories (successes or not) on that tactic. elslater
