  1. Bid Friday and over the weekend--$125, $150, $160--and got nothing for a resort in Key West. I'm thinking I may give up on the whole thing (priceline for Key West). It seems like a winning bid (who knows how high)will most likely get me the Hyatt or the Casa Marina. Both have construction going on until at least May (I'm traveling in early April) and I've bee reading about resort fees, parking fees, etc. I'm going to take a break from priceline and see what the smaller hotels offer. If I decide to start bidding again I keep you posted. Thanks for the help.
  2. Thanks. Last night I started the bidding. I was going to start at $100 like you suggested, but priceline has a new thing (new since the last time I was there) where a red box pops up under your bid price and says something like "Your bid has a very low chance of success..." Also, the median price for a resort during my stay is $436 (ouch). So, I bid $119 (that was the amount that made the message in the red box go away) and I got rejected. I'll try again tonight.
  3. Thanks. I'll give that a try and I'll keep you posted. Also, do you have any idea about which resorts I might get? I know that is tough to gauge, but thought I'd ask anyway.
  4. I'll be in Key West for four nights, five days, arriving April 1st and departing April 5th. I've read through the hotel lists for Key West and also some older posts and it seems like it is a difficult area to bid. That being said, I'm really only interested in that areas and the resort hotels. The Casa Marina Resort, Hyatt Resort, and Reach Resort are the ones listed on this site as well as others (I know the list is not all-inclusive). According to the websites, the Reach Resort is closed until May 2007 for renovations and parts of the Casa Marina are closed as well. Rates at the Hyatt and Casa Marina for my dates range from high $300 to high $400. I am willing to bid up to $210 for a resort in Key West. I am looking for any tips on bidding this area, particularly a good starting bid. It has been a while since anyone has posted a winning bid in this area so I'm not sure where to start. I always use the savingsbarn link and appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
  5. Quick update...realized I forgot to post the end result and I hate when I am reading a post out there and it cuts off. My last night in NYC, 1/24, I got the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in MTW for $145, $177 with tax. Grand Hyatt was very nice, large room. Sheraton was only okay.
  6. I am heading to NYC for three nights, four days, 1/22-1/25 (I posted earlier in another thread, but here is the update). After trying to get all three nights in MTW or MTE with a limit set at $130 with no success, I decided to change my strategy. I bid for one night, 1/22, MTE, 115...rejected, and was asked by priceline to raise my offer $22 to re-bid with no changes (I declined). I then added MTW to my bid and changed my price to $120...accepted. I also chose to "Extend my trip", which worked out well in the sense that I got another night at $120, but only one night since that was the number of days I originally booked. I need to book one more night, 1/24. I'm going to keep trying over the next few days and don't really care if I have to switch hotels since I'm traveling alone and won't be carrying too much. Just wanted to say thanks to thereuare for the helpful comments in the other thread.
  7. I'd go to $130 for MTW, but I'd rather not go higher...it isn't that important to me. So that's my max. I'm not concerned with the subway, I just prefer to walk. A cab might be more of a hassle since I may be going back and forth 3-4 times on some days. I guess what I'm wondering is what other zones are closest to the Marriott (I'm not sure if you can even answer that question, since I could get a hotel on the outskirts of a "close" zone and no longer be close. Plus, "close" is a relative term). Regardless, what other zones do you suggest? And yes, I meant 1/22 - 1/25--1/25 being the checkout date. Thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
  8. I'm new to this forum and also rather new to priceline (used it once a while back and had no idea forums like this existed). I was hoping someone could give me some bidding help. I need to be in NYC from Monday, 1/22/07 through Thursday, 1/25/07. I'll be attending meetings that are being held at the Marriott Marquis. I'd like to get a room in MTW, but am open to suggestions regarding other areas if they are close to this hotel. I'll be traveling back and forth to the Marriott frequently so walking distance would be ideal. I was hoping to spend around $120 for a 4* hotel. Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks for your time.
