  1. I was able to go through my biddings. No luck till 90 USD. I called a relative and got some help, which will boost my budget. I found a 4* hotel in North Champs Elisée for 150 USD on hotwire. I ll keep that as a backup plan. I want to try now till 140 USD or so, on a 4* hotel at either St. Germain, Champs Elisee, Eiffel Tower, or OQW or OQE. If I can't get anything on priceline, then I book over hotwire. Can I still bid today? Knowing that I tried till 90 USD? Thanks
  2. Thanks for the tips Romelle. I had a look and think Porte de Versailles is an ok area for me. I think Priceline is not working so good right now, as it was super slow to process my first bid, and now just gave me a message: Thank you for your patience. We're still looking for a hotel room at your price and should have an answer for you within 15 minutes.
  3. Ok, clicked on the links and will use them for my biddings. I prefer trying for a 3* hotel, as a 4* will be almost impossible to get at this rate. In USD it's between 70-90 dollars. Thanks.
  4. Hi you all, I'm looking for a hotel in Paris for those days. Would prefer staying at around 60-70 euros per night. I would be even willing to go down on the stars level, to a 2*, last case. I'm planning on bidding for a 3* or 4* hotel in those areas: 1. Champs Elysees - Arc De Triomphe 2. Eiffel Tower 3. Opera Quarter East - Les Halles 4. Opera Quarter West - Jardin des Tuileries 5. St. Germain Anybody has been to Paris and know if staying in the Porte De Versailles area is good? If it is, I would include it also. Any help building a bidding plan? Thanks!
  5. Hey thereuare, thanks for the bidding help. Just want to let you know that right now my trip had to be suspended for the moment.
  6. Ok done thereuare. Any ideas for a bidding plan for 2-2.5 * in Union Square East? I would prefer not having to split the hotels. And would be willing to go up to 70 dollars... but since I got time, I can do this slowly.
  7. Hey guys, I'm going to be visiting San Francisco and stay there for 16 straight nights. I was having an early look on hotwire and saw they have a 2* hotel, most likely to be Grant Plaza going for 74$ per night. So I was thinking maybe on Priceline I can get a similar hotel cheaper. I saw that on Union Square East at Priceline the only 2* hotel is Baldwin (I know that the list can change, but I would take any 2* star hotel at that area). The problem is that checking on the Baldwin website directly, they don't have availability for all those days. So what do you think? Probably I would not get it at Priceline also huh? So maybe I was thinking of trying to bid for the 2.5* hotel in that same area (Executive Vintage Hotel) and see if I can get it for less than this price. Since it's still 3 months ahead, I have lots of time to be patient and bid and rebid and search for the best price. Would somebody mind helping me building a bidding plan for a 2 and 2.5* in Union Square East - SF. Knowing that it's selling for 74$ in hotwire, maybe I could start with half of that and go up slowly throughout the weeks. Thanks
  8. Hey guys, just to ay that i gave up trying on priceline and hotwire. I got a deal for 62 dollars at Executive Hotel Vintage Court, at Hotels.com, near the union square. I guess it should be okay, and for that price, I'm not expecting much,. really, beside a good location. Thanks.
  9. Hey slruud, thanks buddy. Lastminutetravel.com is like priceline and hotwire? Or is there an option for an open hotel search? Cause i saw a 75 dollars hotel in there, but since it doesnt show me the name, i may be looking at the wrong one. I will try going as high as 115 dollars for a 3.5* hotel in USE. I have another internet (different modem, different ip) here on my house. I'll cross my fingers
  10. So in the end, Hotwire didnt charge me. I just tried for 3* on priceline for SOMA and USE, and went up to 95 dollars... couldnt get anything... I don't get it... something is really strange.
  11. Hey guys, I still haven't had much luck with a hotel in SF... I tried going as high as 110 dollars, on SOMA, USE and USW for 4 stars... no luck. And to make things worse, I saw today a 3* hotel at Hotwire. I decided to book it. Everything was doing fine. I added my credit card details and it said it was going to book it... Then it took me back to the search results page, the hotel had disappeared from the list of availables, but it didn't send me any confirmation email nor did it show me any confirmation page. Now I don't know if I got a room or not, and I'm afraid to pay double... oh well
  12. Hey, tried for 3.5*. Started at 65 dollars, and tried till 91 on USE. No good still. I checked at Hotwire and saw a 4* hotel at the Fishermans Wharf, which seems to be Sheraton. My ideal place would be a lil more central, like USE... but now seeing this deal at hotwire, i think maybe i can get a good deal at priceline on the wharf also. Also, I checked and there will be two large conventions in SF. One ending in the day i arrive, on the 29th, with 35,000 people expected. And another big one, with 16,000 people expected, beginning at 02.05. So maybe this is hyping up the prices. So may someone point me at which price range should i start at a 4* at Fishermans Wharf, knowing the hotwire deal, and give me a better strategy. I would go up to 95, cause if i cant get for that, i can just go to hotwire and get it there. Thanks guys
  13. Thanks AaronJB! I'm really looking forward to this stay! Will try and post a review after i get back.
  14. Yeah, i was thinking of trying 3.5* first indeed. But how do I try for 3.5 instead of 3? I couldnt see an option for 3.5, unless i'm mistaken. I will put my initial high as 90 dollars per night, for the 3.5 in the USE. Thanks.
  15. Hey guys, thanks for the help! I got a deal: Congratulations, your price of $60 was accepted by Sax Hotel A Thompson I used the PRICELINE link of urs.
  16. Hey guys, so I ve tried the past few days some things. And I couldnt get anything at 4* on USW or USE as high as 101 dollars per night. So I am now looking for 3* at USE. Can someone point me a bidding strategy knowing i couldnt get a 4* at those zones... cause right now i dont quite know at what price range should i start at. And since i'm looking just at USE for now, i wont have as many re-bid zones.
  17. Hmm I tried today with the Financial District, starting at 65 U$, going up to 81, couldnt get anything. So I tried USE going as high as 91 dollars, and couldn't get it also. So what I know is that 81 dollars can't get me a 4* at USE, USW and Financial District and 91 dollars can't get me a 4* at USE. I will check tomorrow where my budget will let me go, and maybe I take a step back at the star levels.
  18. Thanks for the strategy. Unfortunately it did not work. So I am willing to go up on my budget then. Also I could use the Financial District for the 4* there. Thanks.
  19. Hmm this King George Hotel might be worth a look then, i will check it out. But also, 1 queen bed is quite ok. Neither me nor my father are big, so we can definitely fit on 1 queen sized bed. And having no real restrictions, i think priceline will be the best solution, as i'll probably get the best hotels for the lowest prices there. So i'll be using the Union Square East and West at 4* first. Then, if I cant get a good deal, I would be willing to extend to the Financial District, and if I still cant get something, which I doubt then, I could also use Fishermans Wharf and Marina-Lobard Street. Thanks guys
  20. I've stayed at SF once, using priceline, and got a boutique hotel. They gave us 1 king size bed, but when we asked for two beds, they put us on another room. No problems. Anyway, it isn't a problem sharing the bed. I have found priceline to have the best deals over hotwire. I would go for the least expensive 3* hotel. The areas I'm looking at initially are Union Square West, Union Square East and SOMA. I would be willing to add the Financial District. And if I still can't get anything, I would be willing to add both the Fisherman's Wharf and Marina - Lobard Street. Let's put my initial max rate at 80 dollars and the highest stars i could get at it. I think a 4* hotel will be out of range, for 80 dollars, isn't it? But that's ok, I'm willing to go 3* etc. I would appreciate if you guys can help me plan a bidding strategy.
  21. Thanks AaronJB. So from what you said, I am willing to try this NMA-River North area first. My initial max per night I would put at 80 dollars, but I can go higher if it doesn't cut it. If you guys can provide me some help at the starting bid, and bidding procedure, I would appreciate. Thanks, I will use the PRICELINE link.
  22. Hi, I'm travelling to San Francisco on the 29th of january and will stay there for 8 days. I'm looking for a place to stay in the 50-80 dollars range. So I'm thinking maybe a 3 hotel would do it. Also, I don't particularly have a preferred area. I would just try to avoid the center of the tenderloin area. The other time I stayed in SF through Priceline, I got a boutique hotel that bordered the tenderloin area, and it was quite good. So anywhere around it is fine, just not right on it, as I will be with my father also. So, maybe you guys can help me again. Thanks.
  23. Hi, I'll be travelling with my daddy to Chicago on the 24th of January till the 29th (5 nights). I don't know nothing about the city, and from what I saw, there are lots of areas I can choose. May someone point me a good central area, somewhere near the main attractions etc. Also, I would need some help trying to bid as low as possible. Thanks.
  24. Thanks thereuare, once my trip is closer I will come back with more details.
  25. Hi guys. I will soon be travelling to Europe and visit around 4-5 countries in just 1 month (England, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France). I was looking into some hostels and they are like 20-30 dollars per night. The thing is I just don't feel that comfortable in leaving my bags there with people I don't know and sleeping in a room with 4+ people that I don't even know their name. So I was thinking of using priceline to get me a low-star hotel for a reasonable price. I have read that 2 stars at Europe are bad. But how bad is it? I really don't care, if it has a clean restroom and a clean bed, I'm good to go. Could I get a 2-star for like 20-40 dollars? How about a 1-star, is it unbearable for my needs? If it's as good as a hostel but with single rooms, I'm ok. Thanks.
