  1. Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool(s) Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access I booked this on Thursday, 7/18/2016 The hotel's website shows remodeled rooms and extra amenities like a refrigerator, microwave and hair dryer available. When I checked in I was told that none of these were available. My room looked like a 25-year old Motel 6 room. I wasn't expecting a five-star room, but it would be a stretch to call this a one-star room, let alone the two-star room that was listed on HOTWIRE.
  2. I was hoping to find a hotel in Pasadena or Glendale, but my bids were not accepted. I expanded my search to include the LAX area and my bid for $65.00 was accepted. I started my bid using the PRICELINE link on BetterBidding. The room at the Radisson had a lot of wear and tear for a 3.5* hotel, but it was quiet and fairly comfortable. Radisson Hotel At Los Angeles Airport 6225 West Century Boulevard Los Angeles CA 90045
  3. Bid $35 on Austin Central for two nights and extended another two. With tax it was 44.21 per night. This property is *really* run down. I was given a handicapped room with holes in the walls and chipped furniture. I went back to the desk and asked for a non-handicapped room. The new room is very worn and shabby. This does not compare well with other Extended Stay America hotels I've stayed at and I really don't think I'll make a similar bid if I am back in Austin.
  4. The NH Barbizon Palace is located directly across the street from Amsterdam Centraal Station and about two blocks from Dam Square. The hotel itself is pretty underwhelming for a 5* property. It's in a great location and is in a re-purposed old church, but the rooms were noisy, the bed linens looked like they were from a 2* hotel. The room looked like it was last redecorated in the 1970s. It was clean, but a little worn around the edges. We were unable to turn on the air conditioner in the room, so it was stuffy the entire stay. The bathroom looked like it was straight out of a 1970's Holiday Inn -- with one exception. The bathtub was raised about 4" off the floor, so the rim of the tub was more than 24" high. This combined with a slippery rubber tub mat and no handrails looked like it was designed to promote a fall in the bathroom. Instead of a shower curtain, there was a half door on the tub. it blocked water spray close to the showerhead, but it did not stop water from spraying out in the other half of the tub. The water on the marble floor and an extra high tub rim would be lawsuit in the making in the states. We paid $105 per night -- less than the rack rate and below the rates of other hotels in the area. It was a fair price for the hotel room, but this just isn't a 5* property.
  5. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $105.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Guests Per Room: 2 Number of Nights: 4 Room Subtotal: $420.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $55.96 (USD) Total Room Cost: $475.96 (USD) I used the betterbidding PRICELINE link. My bid was accepted on the first try -- I guess I must have left a little money on the table, but it was in line with other 5* bids. The NH Barbizon Palace is located directly across the street from Amsterdam Centraal Station and about two blocks from Dam Square. The hotel itself is pretty underwhelming for a 5* property. It's in a great location and is in a re-purposed old church, but the rooms were noisy, the bed linens looked like they were from a 2* hotel and the tub/shower had a dangerously high rim. It was a fair price for the hotel room, but this just isn't a 5* property.
  6. $75 bid accepted on first try. This is a great location and a great price!
  7. I bid $40 for a 3.5* at the Denver Airport and was offered a counter-offer of $15 higher. I re-bid and added Denver I-70 Airport West at $46 and got the Denver Airport Crowne Plaza. I'm flying in very late and I confirmed that the hotel has a 24-hour shuttle which picks up at the airport. :) I placed the bid through the PRICELINE link on the BetterBidding webpage.
  8. Bid $54 for a 3.5* in the Fullerton-Brea area hoping to get the Marriott Fullerton -- my bid was accepted on the first try, so I guess I may have left a couple of dollars on the table. That said, this was my first choice for a hotel because it is located directly across the street from CSU Fullerton and has free parking. I followed the PRICELINE link on the home page for BetterBidding. Thanks for maintaining the forum -- it has saved me lots of $$ in the past few years!
  9. I bid $48 on a 3.5* in Fullerton-Brea and was unsuccessful, but Priceline suggested raising my bid $15. . . I backed out of that and re-bid $52 adding Fullerton Hills. My bid was accepted for the Crown Plaza in Fullerton. I was hoping to get the Fullerton Marriot since I have an appointment at CSU Fullerton and the Marriott is across the street from campus. The Crown Plaza is a couple of miles away and I'll have to find a parking spot on campus (Ugh!). As usual, I started my Priceline bid by using the link on BetterBidding's website.
  10. The Marriott worked out perfectly -- I was driving in from a 1:30am flight at LAX and there was almost no traffic. The hotel checkout time is noon, so I was able to sleep in and still make my afternoon appointment on campus at CSUF. Thanks, Again!
  11. I have an appointment at CSU Fullerton and will be arriving after midnight at LAX -- was planning to stay in the LAX area, but was unable to find a 3.5 star hotel for under $60 after multiple rebids. I decided to bid on 3.5 star Fullerton/Brea at $45 and was prompted to rebid $10 higher. I figured that I was getting close, so I added Anaheim Hills for $48. My bid was accepted at the Fullerton Marriott which is on campus at CSUF. It will be a long drive after a cross-country flight, but at least I won't have to fight the traffic on the 405 as I would have if I stayed near LAX. The rack rate for this Marriott is $109 and the hotel's webpage doesn't mention a parking fee like the LAX-area hotels charge, so this is a much better deal for me.
  12. I bid $50 for a 2 rooms at a 3* hotel in College Station, TX. The bid was declined, but Priceline countered with an instant rebid at $10 more. I successfully rebid at $60 and got the Residence Inn. I checked the Marriot website afterwards and the least expensive room with a AAA discount was $112 that night! I used the BetterBidding link to access PRICELINE. Thanks!
  13. Stay - July18-25/2009 A newish hotel located at Rt. 2 and I-95 in West Warwick. Travel to downtown or airport - Car required. There are a few restaurants and a cinema within a mile radius, but it's not a comfortable walk. All rooms are suites with flat-screen HDTVs, a desk, microwave and small fridge. Complimentary hot breakfast included with generous offerings. Business Center downstairs in the lobby. Rooms are all newly furnished and well appointed. staff very helpful. This is the nicest 2* hotel I've stayed at.
  14. I bid $30 for the Coventry/West Warwick zone and had a winning bid on my first try. I had not stayed at this hotel before, so I really didn't know what to expect. It turned out to be a very nice stay -- the room was large and well-kept with two flatscreen TVs (!!!), a comfortable bed, a sofabed, desk, small fridge and microwave.
  15. Stay - July25-31/2009 I bid on a week stay in the Warwick/Greenwich zone for $30 the previous week and got a very nice room at the Springhill Suites off of Quaker Ln (Route 2). When I was notified of the winning bid, the e-mail contained a link to extend my stay for up to a week. I foolishly delayed extending the stay and by Thursday of last week, there wasn't a room available at the hotel. I then attempted a bid for $35 for the same zone and was unsuccessful. I added the Warwick Airport zone, increased the bid to $40 -- I succeeded in getting a room at the Comfort Inn Airport Warwick. I realized that this would be a different experience when I called the hotel to ask for a non-smoking room and was told that I was assigned to a handicapped room. I asked for a different room and the desk clerk asked, "what do you expect for a Priceline room?" To be fair to the hotel, they did appear to be completely sold out the first night of my stay -- that sai.d, the public areas of the hotel were very dirty and the room smelled like a nursing home. I contacted Priceline via their FAQ/Help section and sprayed down the bathroom with Febrize. The next day, I spoke with the front desk and they said that they would assign me to a different room. I was able to switch rooms at 4:30 that afternoon. The new room was clean and odor-free. As I said, the hotel was completely full our first night, so I would expect minor problems to happen. However, the dirty, smelly room and stained, dirty public areas are not something I'd expect in any hotel, busy or not. In the future, I'll be more careful when bidding and try to avoid 2* hotels in the airport zone.
  16. Stay - July25-31/2009 An older hotel next to the TF Green airport, the best that can be said is that it is convenient if you are flying. Travel to downtown - Car required. There is nothing to do or eat within walking distance. Standard rooms. Shuttle to airport. Continental breakfast included. Business Center is one computer. This hotel is one of the dirtiest I've ever seen. The elevators had some sort of debris on the floor, the carpet in the halls was stained and dirty and the room smelled of urine. I bid for a hotel in the East Greenwich/West Warwick zone on Priceline and when my bid was declined, I widened my bid to include Warwick and the TF Green airport area. I'd really recommend not bidding on a 2* property in the airport zone because you might wind up here. When my wife asked for a different room, the front desk told her that all the rooms were already taken and asked what she expected for a Priceline room. . . This is our first and last stay.
  17. Checked Orbitz and the Hertz compact rate was $371 per week. Bid $140 ($20 per day) on Priceline and the bid was immediately accepted. I guess I left some money on the table! :) Accessed Priceline through the link on the BetterBidding page.
  18. Just a follow-up after staying at the ESA -- the hotel is across from the Warwick Mall, but almost impossible to locate. The room was a typical ESA room -- spartan, but comfortable. I'd stay here again if I needed budget accommodations near the Providence airport.
  19. I accessed PRICELINE through the BetterBidding link and bid $40 on a 3* in Lafayette. Based on previous comments, I was expecting to counter-bid, but my bid was immediately accepted. I guess I left some money on the table! Anyway, it's a good stopping point for me on the way back to the West Coast and thanks to BetterBidding and PRICELINE, I got an excellent price on a 3* hotel room. Thanks!
  20. I accessed Priceline through the Better Bidding PRICELINE link. My original bid was $59 -- when it was declined, I added Beverly Hills and bumped the bid up to $65. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $65.00 Subtotal: $130.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $26.96 Total Charges*: $156.96
  21. I was trying to get the Marriott San Mateo, so I started bidding 4* San Mateo at $50. I expected that bid to be rejected, so I added SFO and increased the bid to $60. Again, no luck. I added South San Francisco and increased the bid to $65 and was again rejected. I finally added Cathedral Hill and increased the bid to $68 and won the SFO Hyatt Regency.
  22. I bid $60 for two nights and was accepted on the first bid. I guess I left some money on the table! :) Total for two nights with all taxes was $142.24.
  23. We have gotten the Coral Reef Inn in Alameda when making a 2* reservation in Oakland-Alameda. The motel is a typical california mid-century that looks like it was remodeled about 5 years ago. It's in a convenient location across the street from Alameda Town Center mall near Park and Shoreline. The suites are the size of a large one-bedroom apartment, but I don't know the size of the regular rooms. The suite had a full-size kitchen, but no kitchenware.
  24. Just for grins I decided to bid $50 on a 4* hotel at the SFO Airport/San Mateo for Dec 28 - Dec 31. It was accepted on the first try! The hotel is the San Mateo Marriott -- which is a really nice property that's not too far away from the airport. I've stayed here before and the last time I had to bid $75 to get a room, so they must have a few rooms available this weekend. I used SavingsBarn PRICELINE links for the bid and will post an update when I get back from this trip. Thanks and have a great New Year!
