  1. well, I tried $150, $175 and $190, failed on all. also rejected: $200, $205, $210 Perhaps I should wait awhile and see if the retail price drops from $319?
  2. OK, I am ready to begin bidding. The price I see via Marriott and many other online retail price resources (Expedia, Kayak, Travelocity) for the Marrriott Harbor Beach Resort for dates 11/12/10 - 11/15/10 is $319 per night. I have confirmed that, as of a few mintues ago, the Fort Lauderdale Beach Zone is the only Ft Lauderdale zone where the Resort level is active, so I should have many re-bid zones. Any suggestions on a starting bid amount?
  3. thanks for confirming my thoughts - I will of course re-check everything before I bid and check back in here at that time.
  4. Hi, I am very interested in the Marriott Harboar Beach property in the Fort Lauderdale beach zone. I'm looking at preparing to bid (probably in the next 3 weeks, once I confirm airfare) and I'm just collecting info and making sure I have the process down. As I understand it, the Marriott Harbor is the only "resort" level facility that has been reported in winning bids on this forum for the Resort level in Ft Lauderdale Beach zone in the past year. I found on the internet The Atlantic as a winning bid from late 2008. I would be fine with either property although I would prefer the Marriott. I know nothing is guaranteed, but it seems like the chances of getting the Marriott are high. It also seems that none of the other Ft Lauderdale zones have any Resort level properties in the Priceline system. Does this mean I can rebid safely 10 times (adding one of the zones each time)? Thanks!
  5. Booked this in late Fall of 2006 via Hotwire for $145 a night, which seemed like a spectacular deal to me. We would never be able to touch the regular room prices at this property with the poor exchange rate from US dollars to British pounds. We arrived shortly after Noon, and we were able to get into a room #504 right away. This was very nice after a delayed overnight flight. We were given the choice of a queen bed or twins, and since we are used to a king bed we took the twins (which were pushed together anyway, so it worked out especially well). Our non-smoking request was granted and there was no mention of Hotwire, just that the room was pre-paid. Every staff member we encountered for the 8 days was friendly, helpful and attentive. The room was not big, but not tiny either. Room was definitely larger than the New York City Hilton Priceline room I got in 2003. Pros: clean room, nice bed, mattress and bedding, bathrobe, slippers, and 2 free bottles of water each day. Cons: other than the hangers in the closet, there's no place to store your clothes - no drawers or storage of any kind - unless you want to use the top shelf of the closet. Door to bathroom was the much-talked about frosted glass, which could be a problem for some. Hair dryer was installed in the desk drawer and could not be moved. I have no way of knowing if this was a "Priceline/Hotwire" room, although I suspect it may be. I do know that if we had paid the going rate for this room, I would be disappointed. However, we didn't care about the frosted glass door, the legacy/history of the hotel, having tea there, the quality of the amenities or the clothing storage issue, so there were effectively no negatives for us at a price point of $145. Location is really good. We are walkers and although we took the tube a lot we also walked to St. Paul's, Trafalgar Sq, Piccadilly Circus, Waterloo Station and Big Ben. Lots of eating choices close since the hotel is really right in the theater district and Covent Garden is a 3 minute walk. Temple tube stop is also very close so you have access to many different Underground lines. We were looking for an affordable price, a central location, a comfortable bed and a friendly staff. We were not looking for a 5 star luxury property, nor did we care about the style or ambiance of the hotel - we were out enjoying the ambiance of London itself. If we needed a hotel in London and this was available again for $145, I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it. It was just perfect for our needs.
  6. 4.5 stars with Amenities: Restuarant, Fitness and Business. Booked tonight on Hotwire, with all taxes it's actually about US$170/night but lowest rate found on Hilton website was US$350 (prepaid, too), so Hotwire got me more than 50% off the lowest rate :) Thought about trying to get a Mayfair-Soho 4* on Priceline for less, but it just wasn't worth the hassle. I now have air and hotel booked/prepaid and so I will be picking out some travel insurance in the next few days. Air is from NY via Virgin economy, chosen almost exculsively due to the Airbus 340-600 used on the roundtrip, as it has a 2-4-2 seat configuration and my wife and I can sit together without anyone on top of us. Some mixed reviews for this property on TripAdvisor, and if I was used to staying in $400/night hotels I might get upset as well (both because of price paid and people who shell out that kind of $$ for a hotel room tend to be a bit high-maintenance). But for 50% off and with my usual hotel experiences being of the Comfort Inn variety, I doubt I will be complaining. Seemed like a good time to go, right before Easter, daylight savings kicks in on the 25th, Winter is getting to be over around that time (I hope). Stupidly I forgot to book through the betterbidding.com link, so I made up for it by making a Paypal donation to the site (upper right corner). Without this site I never would have known it was the Waldorf Hilton and thus never would have booked, so thank you all!
