  1. Wanted to let you know that I pulled the trigger and the hotel was indeed the Fairfax Embassy Row. Two nights totaled $138.89 with tax and I purchased the extra insurance for $10 extra. Of course I used the HOTWIRE link above. Thanks for taking the time to help!
  2. That HOTWIRE option looks like a great alternative. Do you think if I bid in that area with PRICELINE that I could get an even lower price?
  3. Hi thereuare, My post does sound confusing. The concert is at the U Street Music Hall which happens to be about a 20 minute (or so) walk from the Washington Hilton. The main objective would be to see if I could save any money as I'm sure that hotel is nice enough. The Meridien that I won last year for $132 for two nights was also for a concert weekend. We were able to take the metro in and actually walked into the city via Georgetown, so no big deal. Not a hotel snob here, but like saving money. Once I decide to try bidding, will definitely use the links provided here.
  4. Looking for some helpful advice on doing a Name Your Own Bid on PRICELINE. I usually have great luck from the info from this site and I have over a month and a half to plan. Last used Priceline about a year and a half ago and got the Le Meridien Arlington for about $132 for two nights. Heading to a concert in the city. Would be preferable to stay in town, but not mandatory. Star Rating - Minimum 3* Washington, DC. - no real preference being in the city or in the Arlington area Feb. 3 - 5th Book Rates running around $100/night on average I'm currently booked at the Washington Hilton for about $90/night. It's convenient to the music hall and I get Hilton/Frequent Flyer points, so don't know if savings from Priceline would be worth it. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks! Roger
  5. Thanks for the helpful advice. I actually figured I had nothing to lose and wanted to take a stab at bidding since I had plenty of time. Started bidding at $40/night for a 3.5* in the Arlington, VA district - bid not accepted Added Dupont Circle and 4* level for $45/night - bid not accepted Added Crystal City for $50/night - bid not accepted Added Downtown - Whitehouse at $55/night Bid accepted for the Le Meridien Arlington. Total for two nights with tax and fees was $131.76 which I think is a great deal. Hotel seems to be a fabulous location near the Roslynn Metro Stop and walking distance to Georgetown. Bid using the info on this site. I'll be doing this more often!
  6. I have not bid on a hotel room in over two years, but have an upcoming trip in September to the Washington, DC. area. As usual, I always come to this board for starting info. My dates are Sept. 11 - 13th (2 nights, a Fri/Sat) so I have a little time to prepare. I'm looking specifically at the Arlington, VA area as I think there are some great deals to be had and to be close to the city. I need to be near mass transit as I'm attending a concert Saturday night and need to be able to get in and out easily. As a backup, I've booked a Hilton in McLean/Tyson's Corner for $80/nite - fully refundable. After checking Priceline Express Deals, I'm noticing a 4 star hotel with Restaurant, Free Internet, and Fitness Center for $61/nite (was $58 yesterday). I believe this is the Hyatt Arlington. It's a great deal even once you add parking in for $23/day. I'm wondering if I should try and do a "Name Your Own Price" bid vs. purchasing this deal? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks, Roger
  7. The amenities offered were: Free Breakfast Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Free Parking Pets Allowed Restaurant Airport Shuttle Business Center Fitness Center The hotel was also shown with an 8 out of 10 guest rating (a Guest Favorite according to Priceline). Hyatt Place, Courtyard, Doubletree were just some of the *possible* hotels listed. I searched each brand's hotel info (on their own website) and the only one that showed as Pet Friendly was the Hyatt Place, so I was 95% sure it was that property. A lot of great reviews on tripadvisor so I pulled the trigger!
  8. Didn't use the name your own price feature, but took a chance and used the Priceline Express Booking feature for the first time ever. Got the Hyatt Place Atlanta Airport South for $49 + tax. Liked the fact that you could see the features such as free parking, breakfast, and internet (which were important to me). Just an overnight stop on the way to the beach so a perfect find. Used the PRICELINE link via this site as always find this place very helpful.
  9. This is my first time posting on this board and I would like to say what a valuable resource this is. A friend and myself have been bidding for the last 2 months on the weekend of 9/20 - 9/23 with no luck. We originally were looking for a 4* hotel in the $140 - 160 range. Last year we received the NY Hilton for $140 a night, but no such luck this year. Today we bid the following: 3* MTW/MTE $160 a night We received the Milennium UN Plaza Hotel New York. It looks pretty decent on tripadvisor. Maybe a small bit out of the way, but nothing too complicated as it's only a few blocks to Grand Central!!!
  10. It is the Hilton New York @ 1335 Avenue of the Americas. VERY nice property.
  11. I have used this board previously and it helped me to win a really good bid on Priceline for an earlier trip to NYC, so I figured I would give back. I have been trying for weeks to get a decent hotel in NYC for 11/3 - 11/5, but the Marathon is making things very expensive. I was successful with a bid today @ $220 night and received the NY Hilton. Here is what I bid: $220 MTW,MTE 3* and 4* The bid was accepted and Priceline told me that I had been upgraded from a 3* hotel to a 4* hotel which ended up being the Hilton. Hope this helps others.
