  1. I was on PRICELINE looking at the express deals and found a 2.5* with: Breakfast, wifi, pool, pets, RESTAURANT?, airport shuttle?, business center , fitness center. Price is 72, any ideas?
  2. Stay completed. The hotel staff was very friendly and loaned me a phone charger. The room and hallways looked fresh and the rooms are large. The bed was very firm, but comfortable. The bathroom needed a good scrub. Wall paper peeling, mold in commode. Towels were a bit thin. My wife would have been grossed out. Breakfast had Eggs, sausage, waffles, etc. I would rate the hotel 2* given the bathrooms age and condition. Otherwise a solid 2.5* To get to 3* as sold by Hotwire, the bathrooms would need a redo, and the linens upgraded. I would stay again and felt I got value for the price.
  3. Hotwire star inflation, but an Ok deal. Offer price $53 + $12 dollars in fees. Amenities: listed as Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Indoor pool(s) Fitness Center Pool(s) High-Speed Internet Access Guest ratings were not available,as the hotel was listed as too new. Turns out it used to be a Jameson Inn and the Trip Advisor ratings are 4 out of 5. I did not expect this property as I did a lot of research. Every other site, and I mean all of them, have this location as a two star. Regular rate is 85+ tax or $95 so the savings are good. However if you book 7 days out with Choice Hotels you can get a 20% discount. In that case the savings would have only been a few dollars. The actual 3 Star property's, with breakfast, were all around $120, so I guess I should not be so picky.
  4. This was for the Holiday Inn, formerly a Sheraton 4 Points. The Hotel itself was undergoing a light remodel. When I stayed there they were understaffed and no coffee in the lobby, the manager said that would change. Indoor pool is small and loud. Rooms were very quite. Restaurant on site that was typical hotel. There are no other food options within walking distance, you will need to drive. I have stayed in nicer Holiday Inn Expresses and will try to avoid this one on future trips, but if I get this property again I would not be upset. Three stars is pushing it, and the rate with fees was $85. Complete list of ameneties: Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby, Accessible for the blind Free Parking, Free Internet Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Booked via your HOTWIRE link.
  5. Just booked the Marriott Buttes in Tempe for $ 74.00 per night x 2 plus the administrative fee of $27. On the Marriott website the price was 174.00 per night. It's a steal and a nice place at the lower rate, I doubt I would stay here for the Marriott rate. I know Marriott says its a resort, and when it opened it was pretty cool, these days I would call it a nice hotel with a great pool and good poolside service. A bit isolated if you have no car; and be sure to ask for an inside room as the Hotel sits on a Butte, go figure, but its above I-10. Listed with 90% approval rating ( not sure what happened to the other 10% with the hotwire price). Amenities show as: Resort, NS, Fitness,Pool,Rest, B.C., Internet, Tennis. Thanks.
  6. Ok, just so I have it, your site is automated to put a person who has a question in the "Que" only after you click on a link. I did not notice that. I have been using this site for a number of years and appreciate and find the info very useful. The site has saved me a small fortune. Just booked another hotel and will post in the appropriate spot
  7. Well no input from this site, guess I was penalized for not "starting" my hotel search using an approved link. Inventory changed and booked 2 rooms at the 3.5* Hilton for $62 each for Dec 28. The dependable markers for this one are the 95% approval rating and the pool. Great location, huge rooms. Easy walking to Conseco Field-house for a game. I did use your link to book the rooms which is how I thought your site received $$ support.
  8. I was getting ready to book downtown using the info on this site, when my preferred options disappeared. Now a new one popped up and its a 2.5* downtown hotel, with a 95% Hotwire customer rating. Currently no 2.5* downtown hotels have surfaced on this site for Hotwire. Amenities are listed as: Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness, pool ,Business center, Laundry, High speed internet, golf, tennis. I did a search on 2.5 to 3 star hotels and only come up with the Hampton or La Quinta or Holiday Inn Express. The Hampton has the high approval rating, but no pool, the La Quinta has no pool and a lower rating. The Holiday Inn Express has the pool but Hotels.com show it as an 84% customer rating and Trip Advisor gives it an 81% rating??? At this point my best guess is the Holiday Inn Express, but the difference in customer ratings has me wondering. Any ideas?
  9. Avis for a week, including taxes and fees ( which are really high in Orlando). Clicked on full size and the price was lower on the second screen, went form 21 to 18. No other car class did this. Rental is 378.00 per week on Avis's web site. Another plus is that Avis is in the Terminal, so no bus. I did not try Priceline because if you get Hertz ( still the best) you are riding the bus and that takes more time. At this price I cannot imagine saving more than a few bucks using Priceline. Plus Avis does a very good job.
  10. I did a lot of research around those same dates. My best guess is the Mission Point Resort. I base this on an availability search for your dates. They are offering a traditional room which is either a King or two doubles for $149 on Hotels.com. Not many Island hotels offer a pool ( that I could find) also leads me to the Mission Point. The other thing I noticed is that if you search Hotwire for 2 adults the room shows as available, if you search with 2 adults and 2 children it does not show. In researching the resort I also learned that some of the rooms are very small ( which can be normal for the age of the hotels on Mackinac), so that seems to fit the room limit of two adults. The only other hotels that show available for those dates matches the description but the rate being offered is $234 for the Island House. Both hotels are 2.5 star on Hotels.com The last thing is that there are really no beaches on the island but Mission Point does have a sandy area in front of it. I have biked around that Island many times and that is the only beach like area that I am familiar with near a hotel. The beach is actually in Mackinac State Park which is directly in front of the hotel. Take a look via Google maps. So that is my guess. JE
  11. Many of you use discount codes and I think the value in the those listed here is to let you know about the variety of codes out there. I did see some questions as to what could and could not be used. Having been behind the counter for a good number of years I thought I would let you know how the companies view things. Discount codes are to drive buisness. Leisure rates are often lower than corporate rates if booked far in advance, however a negotiated rate will always be honored, even if the going rate is 3 times as much. This is in exchange for business throughout the year. I often find that an Airline frequent flyer rate saves me a bundle. It is the policy of the rental car firm to ask for an ID to confirm eligibility to receive that rate. In practice this often does not happen because the counter staff often wants to expedite the transaction. I would estimate that at some firms you will almost never be asked and at others you will be asked 75 to 80% of the time. If you are asked for an ID and have no way to confirm it the rental company may charge you the walk up rate. On busy days this can be very expensive. My favorite story on this subject is when, in the 90's, a customer was using the IBM corporate rate at $19.99 a day for a full size car in California. I am sure he was proud of himself until he returned the car to discover that IBM had negotiated the rate with no mileage included. This person toured all of California at an additional 20 cents a mile. A very expensive rental. If you use a discount code with the benefits of liability protection or a damage waiver, as someone mentioned in another post, and something happens you will be asked to provide proof of your affiliation with that discount code. Car rental firms are self insured meaning if you crash the car it comes out of their pocket. If they have given you free benefits they eat the loss, so this detail will not be overlooked. If you cannot provide proof of affiliation, the contract is considered fraudulent and the benefits will be denied. In addition your rate may revert to a rack rate (expensive). If you rely on a credit card to cover damages they may deny you based upon the fraudulent contract. I have no experience with the latter since the car rental company bills the customer and leaves it to them to submit a claim to whomever, most likely their own insurance company. Hope this helps.
  12. Bid on a mini van at almost 50% off listed rates. Hotwire offered one for $46 per day so I bid $39 and Avis accepted the offer. June 15. 16
  13. Hotwire offered a mini van for 36.99 a day for 5 Days starting June 25 2007. The Van is from Budget. I went to Priceline and bid $29 per day, this came out to $192.00 with the taxes and priceline fee, this was rejected so i grabbed the Hotwire offer that totaled $228 for five days. This is a savings of $125 from the listed rates on other travel sites and only $26 more than my rejected offer from Priceline.
  14. I can see why you may be a little confused. This was a Hotwire reservation, my reference to the check in persons comment that it was a "Priceline Rate" was to point out two things. They seem to treat the reservations as the same type, this is notable becouse priceline only guarentees a room that will sleep 2. Hotwire says that the accepted reservation will accommodate the number of people specified. In my case this was very important, and is why I went with Hotwire and skipped priceline. I specified a party of 4. When I called the hotel, prior to arrival, they had us all in a king bed smoking room. My take away on this is that the hotel assigns king smoking rooms to priceline customers, and is unaware of the Hotwire policy regarding accommodating the number of guests. The second item you asked about was a list of ammenities. What stands out about the property listing however is " Customer Favorite" and " Indoor-Outdoor Pool". This is how I determined the location. The standard ammenties listing contained: Airport Shuttle, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Resturant, Buisness Center, High Speed Internet, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby. Less than helpful in determining the hotel itself becouse other hotels had the same listing. Hope this helps
  15. Double Tree Memphis East listed as Three Star, customer favorite, with and indoor-outdoor pool. Staff was very very nice and showed me a king and a double room so I could choose. Call hotel prior becouse the default booking was for a smoking king, even though I listed two adults and two children as the guests. The check in staff twice mentioned that my reservation was a priceline rate, indicating that they are also very active with priceline. I tried to pay for an upgrade to a suite and the staff coould not figure out how to take the extra money becouse the rate was prepaid. Beds were good, bathroom and room were clean, carpet had a few stains. Room has a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and an iron. Rate was $65 plus tax or $78 per night. Lowest bookable rate was 109 plus tax or $124. So hotwire saved me almost $50 per night. Location was easy to get to. Only thing is that my room faced the interior or pool, and Memphis has an active rail system at night. Train whistles woke me twice both nights. A room facing the street side would have been much better becouse that is opposite the tracks (which are two blocks away). Close by, but just far enough away are a sports bar, large movie-plex, Kroger, and resturants from fast food to very high end. Neighborhood looks to be very safe
