  1. Thanks Aaron I'm seeing a Hot rate 3* in Midtown East for $150 ($620 all in for the 3 nights) - this is more than I want to pay but I will keep revisiting (I think this hotel is Pod 39) Also reading up on 'name your own price' but I from what I'm reading, I will have to up the * rating if using a bidding strategy or I could end up stuck in an area I don't want to be in I have visited NYC 3 times previously so familiar with some of the areas (stayed Times Square, Brooklyn and Central Park areas previously) Thanks for the info re my Boston booking, good to know you don't know of any reservation not making it to the hotel (let's hope I don't become the first!) Thanks
  2. Hi again Following very helpful posts when I wanted to book Boston a couple of weeks ago, I wonder if I can get some further help. We're travelling from Chicago to Boston via Niagara Falls (Canadian side). Plans were to leave Niagara Falls, Canada and drive to Boston via Saratoga Springs, NY, Sycaruse, NY and Sturbridge, MA. We're now thinking about cancelling these 3 stopovers and instead flying from Buffalo to NYC, stay 3 nights then take a greyhound or Amtrak to Boston. The cost of the flights will be offset by the savings made in handing the hire car back early. The 3 hotels I have booked in the places mentioned above amount to $360 total (this is inclusive of all taxes). I know hotels in NYC are pricey but what's the chances of sticking an extra $100 onto that $360 and getting something half decent? We don't necessarily need to be right in the tourist areas so would consider anywhere in the city. I also have another query and not sure where to put it - I booked our Boston hotel via Hotwire. I have a reservation number and an itinerary number. Should I be able to put one of these numbers on the hotel's own website and see my reservation? Just I've tried and nothing is coming up. I've contacted the hotel via their webpage and facebook and they've not responded. Ringing is difficult as I'm in the UK and my cell phone doesn't seem to want to connect (I will keep trying but thought someone might know the answer on here) Thanks
  3. Thanks Aaron Chicago turned into a bit of a nightmare. I booked 1 night initially but couldn't get a further 2 nights in the same accommodation and didn't really like the idea of moving. I then found an absolute bargain given the prices of downtown hotels at that time for my dates (or so I thought) when the hotel Blake came up via another website at $155 per night so I snapped it up. Fast forward a few weeks and I emailed the hotel to ask something, they had no record of my reservation! After a lot of digging, it turned out the hotel Blake I was booked into was one in New Orleans!! Fortunately, it wasn't my fault as what I'd booked clearly showed Chicago so booking agent, to their credit, pulled out all the stops to resolve. Upshot is I'm now staying further out than I wanted to (The Willows hotel, Lincoln Park area) at a rate of $125 per night (this includes taxes)......I haven't dared look at Chicago hotels on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE since so if prices have plummeted and I could have been in a better area for a comparable rate, I don't want to know, ha
  4. Update - the issue with the credit card was actually the bank thinking it was a fraudulent transaction. Sorted that and tried again (via the HOTWIRE link above). It was indeed the Omni Parker and I am happy with the rate I got, saving $67 on what I was about to pay earlier today by booking on normal Priceline. Even better though, is the saving of $182 compared to the Doubletree I had originally booked (now cancelled). I'm sure the Doubletree is lovely but I do like the look of the location and the history of the Omni Parker so happy we'll be staying there instead. Would just like to say a huge thank you for the site and a particular thank you to AaronJB are thereuare for the invaluable help given. Is there anything else I should do? I saw a report win button earlier but presume that's for bids? (might try that next if I feel brave) Once again, thanks - the $$$ saved will go towards the extortionate car hire one-way fees I have to pay to collect in Chicago and drop off in Boston!!
  5. Thanks again, Aaron Well after all that, I ended up seeing the $146 rate and attempted to make the booking on Hotwire. However, the site doesn't like the fact I don't have a ZIP code. Our UK version (postcode) contains letters as well as numbers and the site doesn't like those either - my card is now blocked. I have other credit cards but most charge hefty fees for 'foreign' transactions (the one I attempted doesn't carry any additional foreign transaction fees). My rate for the Doubletree is $726 (inclusive of tax). I'd really like to shave around $140 off this if at all possible. I've not visited Boston but believe it's fairly compact so as long as we're somewhere central and in a decent hotel, I would be happy. I will look at those other sites you have suggested, thanks again ps also thinking I might try and name my price on priceline at $146 for Downtown - harbor area to see if that might get me Omni Parker? I know I have to use a dummy ZIP in order to do that (read that a little while ago so will need to re-read prior)
  6. Thanks for your help, Aaron. I can't see what you're seeing on Hotwire at all, although I am unfamiliar with the site so could just be me - is it possible 2 people can get completely different results? I can see a Boutique 4* hotel in Downtown Boston for $147, which has an additional resort fee of $17 and which I think might be the Onyx. The other thing with Hotwire that seems to differ from Priceline - does it always tell you that your hotel will be 1 of 4 and list the 4? Thanks
  7. Hi Still quite new to all this. I have an existing reservation for Doubletree Downtown but price is higher than I'd like so I'm looking to cancel and rebook I've been keeping an eye on Priceline Express in the hope of identifying the same hotel and getting it much cheaper. I'm not having much luck but today on 'normal' priceline, I can see both Westin and Omni Parker at decent rates (to my inexperienced eye at least). These are coming up at around $198 and $178 respectively. So my question is - are these rates decent for my dates and is it worth just booking one rather than waiting to see if they will come up at a better rate via Priceline Express? (assuming I can identify them as same hotels, I know this isn't guaranteed) - I have tried searching and can see both have been ID'd and that Omni Parker might straddle more than one location. If you can see anything that looks like it might be either hotel, could you advise please. Also, if anyone is familiar with these hotels and the area they're in, which is best? I know Onmi Parker has history (but some of the rooms seem to be tiny) but assume Westin will be a nice hotel. Incidentally, if searching from above details and search results show slightly different rates to above, that will be because I'm in the UK so my results were in GBP (and I arrived at the $ rate by doing a conversion) Thanks for any help offered
  8. Thanks again. I've booked 1 night (via your link) but opted for the rate with free cancellation up to 31st May. I will keep looking and, if I find something within budget where I want to be for all 3 nights, I can cancel. However, if I don't and have to book somewhere further afield, we can at least enjoy 1 night in the city. Thanks again for your help
  9. Many thanks for your quick response AaronJB. Our dates are set as we've booked flights into O'Hare and they're no longer refundable. We've also got the rest of the trip mapped out (17 night road trip via Niagara falls and ending up on Boston). Chicago is the only location I'm struggling with (well that and the one-way car rental fees, ouch!!) If I need to look further afield, is Lincoln park a reasonable area and is it easy to get to the touristy areas from there on public transport? Thanks
  10. Hi all New to this site and to Priceline, would appreciate some help. I've been trying to find a hotel at a decent price in Chicago (above areas) between 1st and 4th June. I have already booked (then cancelled) a hotel in west Loop area (after seeing people say it wasn't a great area to stay in), some apartments in the Loop with terrible reviews and the Rafaello (because I erred when working out the exchange rate in my head and it was more expensive than I wanted to pay) - I'm in the UK I now know that I definitely want to stay in either of the 3 areas above. I want to be close to bars, restaurants, hop on/hop off buses, the boat tours etc. I also know that I don't want to spend 2k to stay there! What I don't know is how popular June is for hotels around that area and if my expectations are too high. So what I would ideally like is:- Star rating - 2.5 would do City and Zone - Chicago, River North, Streeterville or Navy Pier Dates - 1-4 June 18 Rate - $200 (is this completely unrealistic?) amenities - none. The location is the important factor. We won't have a car. I think all of the areas I've mentioned would be good as a base to get to the John Hancock etc Express deals not bringing anything less than $350 up. Will I have any chance with bidding? And can you bid this early? Thanks
