  1. I realize that I didn't bid the best way but I tried. Last year I rented a midsize SUV through Priceline for roughly the same time period for $15 a day over 10 days through Avis. What a deal. This year I tried to get the same price. Our trip to Orlando this year is from April 24th to May 5th. My first bid was on February 6 for $15 for a midsize suv and then $15 for a minivan and was denied on both. Then on March 3rd, after looking at many other winning bids on the board I offered $25 for a midsize SUV and was denied. Getting closer to my vacation I got down to business. On March 26th I offered $19 for a midsize SUV, $25 for a minivan then $23 for a standard SUV and got denied on all. On the 27th I offered $24 for a standard SUV and denied. On the 30th I offered $25 for a standard SUV and got denied. Today, April 1st I offered $21 for a midsize SUV and got accepted through Budget???!!! Wait a second, I offered $25 for a midsize suv a month ago and they denied me and today they accept $21. I guess inventories have changed. Right after I got accepted they asked if I wanted to upgrade to a minivan for $9 a day. I did need the extra space and took the sucker bet. Still a decent deal but I just noticed someone posted a minivan to MCO the week before we are there for $25 a day. First accepted deal through budget was $21 a day for a midsize SUV for a total $356. Upgraded to the minivan for the extra $9 a day ($30) for a total $476. All through Budget
  2. I needed a larger car for our family trip to Florida. I made some bids two weeks ago, sorry that I can't remember what they were, and got rejected on all of them (but they were much higher and for a lower class of car). I saw in a recent posting that the rental prices had come down and just tried for a mid SUV for $15 and was accepted. Total was $165 plus taxes for $274.75 with Avis. Funny thing is I had just checked on pricing from Avis for the very same car using my corporate discount. That was $407 or $37 a day plus the taxes for a total of $530. That's a 48% in savings. Huge win!!! I guess the only thing holding me back from total jubilation is the fact that my bid was accepted on the first try. I'm just plain greedy. Hope this helps someone else. Thank you Better Bidding!
  3. Started out my bidding on 12-8-11 at $150 using the Resort selection in Poipu, Kauai which was rejected. Added Princeville, since they do not have any resorts, at $160 and was rejected. Waited another day and bid $170 and was rejected and again added Princeville at $175 and was rejected. Priceline never offered any other pricing. I waited another day and bid $180 and got it!!! $180 x 8 days plus $226 in taxes for a total of $1,666. The lowest price online that I could find through many avenues was $259 a day. Neither price, the $180 or the $259 included the 13.5% hotel tax or the $25 a day resort fee. I saved $79 a day because of BetterBidding!!! Amazing. It was because of BetterBidding that I was able to find out that there is only one resort in Poipu, the Grand Hyatt and none in Princeville which helped me bid securely for the property that I wanted. Thank you very much!
  4. I won a rental for a week out of JFK. I was tired when I made the reservation and didn't realize that on my return date I had 3am and not 3pm. I called Priceline and they said they couldn't help at all and to work it out with Avis. I called Avis and they gave me two options. Come in and exchange the car for a lower discounted rate or extend the rental at the prearranged Priceline rate which was $58 for the day and return the car at 3pm. I paid the higher rate bc, like you, it just didn't make much sense to return the car 12 hours earlier. I am angry that the system even let me return a car at 3am but it was my mistake and Priceline didn't care. My error so I paid the price. FYI.
  5. Hi all, this was a tough auction. I am picking up the car at FLL and dropping it off at TPA for a total of 13 days over Christmas. After reviewing the message boards I decided to start my bidding at $12 a day. On the second day, PRICELINE indicated the "Good chance" price of $17 but I didn't take it as I thought it was too high at the time. I stuck to the Betterbidding process of raising my bid $1 at a time. Over the following two weeks my bid had gotten as high as $21 a day with the "Good chance" level up to $36. For some reason yesterday I put in a price of $17 and they accepted the price! I do not know why it happened this way but I would assume that the rental companies have certain sales at different times and I must have hit the sale yesterday. Either way, I am extremely happy with the price considering when I checked my Preferred rate at Avis was $642 for the same rental. Therefore, I won for $17 a day a 13 day Compact rental with Alamo picking up at FLL on Dec. 16 and dropping off at TPA Dec 29 for $372. The breakdown is $221 for the rental and a whopping $151 in taxes and fees. Thank you Betterbidding and members for helping me save a huge $270!!!
  6. I won a bid from PRICELINE today for Kona airport pickup with a convertible for 5 days at $34 a day through Alamo. Oct 4-9, 2006. I didn't check the boards to see if this was a good price but it seemed fair to me. Good luck.
  7. I did not bid on Priceline but received the local rate directly from the hotel of which they are having a Fall special at $159 a night with a room upgrade. Therefore, I would bid lower right now on Priceline than what most posts show of $185. I am staying Oct 3-9, 2006. Good luck.
