  1. Turned out to be a very nice stay. Location was excellent for sightseeing on the Mall and also walking to Georgetown. Hotel staff was helpful and the room was plenty nice. I did not experience any of the problems I had heard on reviews (ie noisy rooms, thin walls, impolite staff, etc).
  2. Started at $70 and 4* for White House-Downtown. No dice - but Priceline offered $80. I decided instead to bump to $73 and add the Dupont Circle area, leaving 4* as the only option. Hit on the St. Gregory. It's Google reviews are a little sketchy for a 4* hotel, but it's close to the White House and Georgetown so that's good.
  3. Columbia, SC 3* - Clarion Downtown Amenities: Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, High Speed Internet $49 - $61.12 with tax
  4. Attending a seminar in Chapel Hill this weekend, came to Priceline looking to get either 4* Carolina Inn or Siena, but I guess since it's a football weekend they are all booked up because I went as high as $105 and couldn't get a room, adding RTP, Cary and Airport as I went, since they all only had 3* hotels. Decided to add a 3.5* to the request to see if I could get the Sheraton in Chapel Hill, which is precisely where my seminar is located. RTP, Cary and Airport were all still included - I thought I was safe based on our lists here (you can see where this is headed). Bumped the request back down to $75 thinking that was a good place to start on a busy weekend. Got a hit for a Sheraton, but it was the 3* Sheraton Imperial in RTP that is now apparently a 3.5* in Priceline. I think my $75 bid there is almost full price :) ! So, I've paid nearly full price and I get to commute to the seminar. First time I've gotten burned with PRICELINE in a long time.
  5. Used the Better Bidding link to get to Priceline. Started at $65 with just Downtown/Harbor Island. Went to $70 adding Escondido. $75 adding La Mesa. $80 adding Point Loma. Finally went to $85 and added Sorrento and got a hit for the Sheraton. Would have preferred one of the downtown/gaslamp hotels but no big deal. Short enough cab ride to every place I'm going to need to go. As usual, thanks to Better Bidding for the assist on what to bid and, most importantly, where to bid.
  6. Linked to Price.ling thru Betterbidding, started with 4* at $70 in Convention Center and White House and missed. Bumped to $75 and added Suburbs and hit on the Renaissance. As always, thanks to Better Bidding!!!
  7. Used the Betterbidding link to get to Priceline, and put in $60 for 3* level which was accepted immediately for the Residence Inn. Probably should have gone for $50 or maybe less, but had seen $70 as a good target so I thought I was lowballing. Oh well, still not a bad price for Memorial Day weekend.
  8. Thanks to swine flu, our planned trip to Mexico had to be cancelled. So, thanks to Betterbidding and PRICELINE I was able to land an affordable last minute replacement in Hilton Head. I just started at $80 and the bid was accepted for the Mariott Resort. I was sort of hoping for the Hilton, but this will be fine. I used the link from this site to get to PRICELINE.
  9. Was expecting the Chapel Hill 4* to be the Siena Hotel, but am not disappointed at all that The Carolina Inn is what I got since it's also AAA Four Diamond and is right on campus. Started at $85 and was rejected. Moved to $95 by adding the Cary zone and was rejected. Bumped up to $105 and was accepted. I bid using the board's PRICELINE link. Thank You!
  10. Started my bid at $55 for just RTP. Added the Airport zone that had no 3* and upped the bid to $58 which was accepted.
  11. Sorry - posted this back in the fall and haven't been back in a while. The stay for this Wilmington Sheraton was August 5, 2006.
  12. Followed the procedure for the other Omni poster. Started at SavingsBarn.com, then went to priceline. As predicted, there's only one 4* downtown. Started the bid at 56, then 61, then 71 (adding a new zone each time) and finally got a hit at 76. Hotwire's 4* was $108, so assuming it's the same hotel that's a $32 bargain, and right at half price on their regular rates. Staying there on 3/10/07 through 3/11/07.
  13. Sheraton Suites Wilmington 422 Delaware Avenue Wilmington, Delaware 19801 (302) 654-8300 Amenities were: Suite, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, Golf This was one of the nicer rooms I've stayed in, and superior to some 4* Hotwire hotels I've stayed in previously. Very positive experience. Hotwire price was $82/night for a weekend stay in August.
  14. I can confirm that the 4* in Fairfax is the Hyatt Fair Lakes. Rate was $93 for the night of 10/1/06. Amenities were: Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, High Speed Internet, Tennis Won't be able to confirm that the hotel is decent since my trip just got cancelled, but it seems like it would have been nice. C'est la vie.
