  1. Just won the Fairmont Battery Wharf. Listed with the following amenities: Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Spa Services Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Didn't see it in the hotel list and thought I was going to get the Intercontinental. Kind of bummed on the location but it looks nice and quiet.
  2. Thank you so much for the help but it turns out my plans have changed and I will not be staying overnight. Thank you guys for being so helpful. The mapsandhotels.com link is nice. I was not aware of that.
  3. Bump. I followed up on my old thread. Sorry for the mix-up.
  4. Sorry, I've completely forgotten about this thread. I believe I've been to NY twice since I posted this. For this stay I ended up attempting to stay with a friend in Queens in what ended up being a very less than desirable situation. After the first night I used the PRICELINE links from here and ended up booking the Parker Meridien for the next night (9/18) at $150 a night. Since then I've found that if I am unable to book a good rate before my stay in the city I will use something like quickbook hotels and book a cancellable reservation. By doing so I have always been able to book a cheaper four star hotel in the city (although sometimes it comes down to the wire, and frequently it will be split among multiple hotels). Sorry I am unable to comment on the original topic of the thread. Like I said, I tried staying with a friend in Queens and ended up "sleeping" on the floor of a strangers house with people coming and going all night long. That morning I immediately booked a hotel in the city.
  5. Wasn't sure if I should put this in DC or maryland but I'll try here... Going to see the Redskins. Are there any hotels really close (walking distance) to FedEx field? Is FedEx field accessible by subway? If so can anyone suggest a hotel that is convenient by subway as well? I know there are a few hotels in NoVa that have subway stops in the lobby but not sure about Maryland... Basically, I'm trying to get to the stadium without a car so if anyone has any good hotel suggestions I'd love to hear them.
  6. Just wanted to let everyone know I got the Sofitel in MTW (I think) at $160 a night for those dates. I bid 140 and lost, then rebid with 160 since I'm lazy and got it. Might want to try a little lower, you could probably get it. And I used the PRICELINE link like I always do.
  7. As I posted in my thread in the PRICELINE subforum I have to split my vacation hotel stay up because the dates 9/17 and 9/18 are really expensive in the city proper. I was wondering where would be a good place to stay outside of Manhattan proper that has easy island access but still will afford a cheap hotel stay. I'd like to stay under 200 dollars a night. I'm flying in to JFK but don't really care where I stay as long as it has good city access. Also, I'll have no car so I won't be able to get from the hotel to public transportation unless it is walking distance. From snooping around other threads it looks like Hoboken is a good idea but would somewhere else be better? I'm nervous on bidding on priceline because I don't want to end up far away from public transportation and am wondering if this will be a problem as well.
  8. I'm going to NY for a week 9/17 - 9/22 and am finding that Wednesday and Thursday night are prohibitively expensive. I can find good rates for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night but can't seem to find good deals for the first leg of the trip. I've resigned to staying out of the city the first two nights to save some money. I'm flying in to JFK and want to find something closer to the city but don't know much about surrounding areas. Any suggestions on a bidding strategy to land something close to, but not in the city? I'm thinking a 2-3 start hotel and would like to spend less than 200 a night. Also, I'm planning on bidding on PRICELINE for my weekend leg of the stay and will update the thread with my results soon. Edit: I bid on a hotel in zones CPS, MTW, and TS for 9/19 - 9/22 and got The Hudson Hotel in CPS for 200 a night. Might have overbid a bit but was trying higher and failing a week or two ago.
  9. Well, luckily I can stay at my friend's house in Astoria but I was trying to find a room in the city since I'm going with someone who has never been and thought it would be nice to stay in the actual city for a few nights. So yes, I guess I have a backup. Why are rooms so expensive in September? I think last time I went was Labor Day weekend last year and I found a room for under 300... So, I guess I just keep holding out and try bidding 300 for a 4*?
  10. I was wondering if it was reasonable to think that I might find a 3* for around 200 or 4* around 300. Last time I went to NY was two years ago and I got a room at the Parker Meridien for $250 a night. I've bid up to $280 unsuccessfully so far. Should I wait and keep bidding? Also, if I do end up going for a 3* (as I don't want to go much over 300 for a 4*) what areas should I be looking at? I've stayed in some real dive 3* in NY before and I don't want to repeat that. I was thinking central park and midtown east/west. I'd like to avoid Times Square and downtown/financial district. Any help? Am I totally off base here?
  11. Sorry about this misunderstanding. I didn't understand the bidding topic. I thought they gave you the option to rebid. I didn't realize you had to input another area. Anyway, I got the Parker Meridean for $165 (and nothing at $160), which I almost expected to get since hotwire listed it for $202 as the cheapest 4*. Thanks for the help. I'll definately be using this site a lot.
  12. I'm not too familiar with priceline. I'm not seeing any way to rebid the same zone and star rating by just changing the price. It looks like I have to completely log out. I don't seem to be getting the 2 rebids.
  13. Sorry, I thought I had included it in my original post and I hadn't. $202 a night. It's also tagged as a "best value".
  14. The amenities are: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Spa Services From the list it looks like it may be Le Parker Meridien. It seems odd since it is cheaper than most of the three start listings. I would like to try and beat the price if you think it is possible to find a 4* for that weekend at a cheaper rate on priceline.
  15. I've never used priceline before and I really am somewhat nervous to use it. I've been to New York plenty of times but this weekend looks pretty busy and places I've normally stayed in have pretty high rates and I need to find somewhere around 200 a night (ideally less). I'd be more than willing to stay in a 3* but I'm nervous to use priceline to stay in a 3* as I've stayed in some awful 3* hotels as well as some great ones. ANy suggestions for a bidding strategy? Is it feesible to try and get a 4*? Safe to bid for a 3* without risking a dog? Thanks for any help. I'll definately use the PRICELINE links for bidding when I do. This site has a ton of info. Thanks in advance Edit: I found a 4* in my price range on Hotwire. Would it be possible to get it on priceline? Is it worth trying to bid for or should I just take it. Also, any idea what hotel it is? 4-star hotel in Midtown Central Customer Favorite! This upscale establishment offers thoughtful features, quality rooms and a high level of service. See hotel details
  16. I am doing the exact same thing as the original poster. All the hotels I normally stay at have ridiculous rates this weekend for some reason. I've never used priceline before and am scared to go with a three star rating as some three stars I have stayed at have been great and some have been awful. Do you think I could find a 4 star (anywhere in city) for under 200 a night? I've never used priceline like I said. I don't care about too much other than being somewhat close to a subway stop.
