I'm not a last minute traveler but needed 2 tickets to Austin in less than two-week's notice so I took a chance using Priceline. The least expensive flight to AUS is $537 with United.
The date is semi-fixed, 3/5 to 3/7, with only a flexibility of flying out on Sunday, 3/8.
I started bidding at $250, $260, $270, adding in SAT and Sunday for free bids. Priceline came back with several options, and I accepted their counter offer.
Total is $749 for two tickets. I would prefer a later flight on Saturday, but it's acceptable at 7:12 am.
