  1. I used the PRICELINE link each time I bid (although I wasn't signed in at the time).

First day: bid 65 in Incline, Resort only. Rejected

Added Carson City (which has no Resort) and bid 75. Rejected.

Added Gardnerville-Minden (which has no Resort) and bid 80. Rejected.

Next day: bid 85 in Incline, Resort only, Rejected

Added Carson City (which has no Resort), and bid 87, Accepted.

Hotwire has this hotel for $125. The hotel website is about $186.

    Five nights at $87 per:

    Room Subtotal: $435.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $70.85 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $505.85 (USD)

There is also a daily $21 Resort fee which includes parking, internet access, basic business center use, fitness center, etc.

  2. Bid 40 for Roseville - Rocklin Received a rebid offer to add $12. Ignored it.

Rebid 45 adding Woodland (which has no 3 star properties) was rejected.

Rebid 47 adding West Sacramento (which also has no 3 star properties) and was accepted.

    Room Cost : $47.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $47.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $13.98 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $60.98 (USD)

This is a nice hotel :) . (According to TripAdvisor)

    I used the PRICELINE link.

  3. I am a local and as hip as SOMA (South of Market) is hyped to be, remember that this hotel is a very long walk from Union Square. Look it up on google maps. It is like a 7 block walk. Frankly, I think Hotwire has a lot of nerve categorizing this hotel as Union Square anything. It isn't. It's SOMA. Yes, it is a beautiful hotel and has a very high rating amongst users.

  4. (About a month ago, I had taken the time to fill out PRICELINE's lengthy survey, for which they gave me $30 bonus cash, had to be used for bidding, only allowed to credit $10 per day, had to be used in a single bid, I had to pay tax on entire amount. Anyway) I bid $55 a night just on a lark, and nearly fainted when I won. Also, when I first looked at the no bid option on Priceline, I was astonished to see motels offered for as low as $25 per night. I have never seen prices like this for Lake Tahoe in August (we have been going there for 20+ Years).

Yes, I used the above PRICELINE link when I actually went to bid.

They even offered to extend our stay at the same rate. If I could spare the time I would.

  5. I had a similar experience. You might very well end up with the Trump if you bid in the Las Vegas Strip North vicinity and even to get that will probably cost you $160. The suites are extremely nice, but they will charge you +$15 per day resort fee, daily parking (if you rent a car), and $25 per day per person extra if your party has more than 2 people (although the suites sleep 4). You will have to walk down a not so good street to get to the strip, and there is no casino in the Trump. In all fairness, the suites are absolutely 5 star.

Re: Las Vegas in general, at this point, it looks like they are holding out for higher prices for the holiday. Also, beware, many hotels are simply out of rooms with more than a single bed. Better get a backup regular reservation and then keep trying PRICELINE and checking out HOTWIRE every day. It is possible that if you can wait till the last minute, you might still end up with a good outcome. Cancellation for regular reservations is now about two days or 48 hours prior to check in.

  6. Date is for 1 night, 5/22/09

Read all the scary stories on Tripadvisor and decided against anything less than a 3*

Bid $40 in 4* Scottsdale, rejected

Added Airport (there are no four star so it was a free bid), raised to $45, Rejected

Added Downtown (no four star so another free bid), raised to $50, Accepted.

Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort/Scottsdale 4 Star

    Scottsdale

    5401 North Scottsdale Road

    Scottsdale, Arizona 85250

    480-947-5400

Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $50.00

    Subtotal: $50.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $13.77

    Total Charges*: $63.77

And now I will go donate to betterbidding.

  7. Four things:

    1) Hotel prices for May in Las Vegas are coming down at this moment (Sunday April 26th) (which means nothing re: tomorrow or the next day.)

    2) Hotels do sometimes offer incredible deals if you simply go to their web sites and book directly through the hotel. (Monte Carlo, an often overlooked not spectacular but perfectly decent and very well located hotel/casino was offering $60 weekday rates with 2 buffets, two spa days (now that's something) and $10 in free play, it's called their "Pay and Play" or something package and really is an incredible deal.

    3) TravelZoo deals have to be booked asap or they are gone.

    4) A good current deal on HOTWIRE is what the board suggests is the Westin Casuarina (again not spectacular, but a well located decent place to stay) for $99 over Memorial Day. Not bad for a holiday weekend.

PS -- When you book and save several hundreds of dollars, go to paypal and donate 5 bucks to this board. It's worth it.

  8. Obviously, a Wednesday and Thursday night are easier.

Bid $40 yesterday, received a $52 counter offer and I just closed the link.

Bid $45 today and was accepted immediately.

I am very pleased with this Planet Hollywood win. I have stayed at the Luxor, it is a very nice hotel, but I honestly don't think it is 4*.

My Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00

    Subtotal: $90.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $16.98

    Total Charges*: $106.98

  9. This is the first time I have had a bid accepted in San Diego during the summer.

I bid $70 for a four star in Downtown San Diego & Harbor Island - Rejected

    I then bid $75 added 3 stars - Rejected

I then bid $80 added Point Loma- Shelter Isl, Old Town - Rejected

I then bid $85 adding Mission Valley and was accepted.

Mission Valley Sheraton's rack rate is $289. The Motel 6 down there charges $79 and is sold out for these dates. (Not that any of us would ever stay there but it's an interesting comparison.) Yea Better Bidding.

  10. 3* Indian Wells (Rancho Mirage-Indian Wells-Palm Desert)

    $60 .... 6/16/07-6/19/07

    Indian Wells Resort

    Your Offer Price: $60.00

    Extend Your Stay

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Number of Nights: 3

    Subtotal: $180.00

    Taxes & Service Fees:

    $29.63

    Total Charges*: $209.63

I bid $60 based on Blindman's previous post advice and it was accepted right away. Mid-June is just about the end of the desert season.

Where is the SavingsBarn link? I searched for it and couldn't find it.

  11. I am fairly certain that I added SFO. In any event here is the hotel I won:

    San Mateo Marriott Sfo Airport

    Check-In Date: Friday, September 15, 2006

    Check-Out Date: Sunday, September 17, 2006

    San Mateo

    1770 South Amphlett Boulevard

    San Mateo, California 94402

    650-653-6000

I think it's the only 4* Marriott down there.

I appologize for not using your link. It was all very spur of the moment.

  12. My last rejected bid was $62, made yesterday (7/05). In a less important situation, I would have inched my way up day by day but I didn't want to worry about it. By the way, Hotwire offered a 4* in the same area for $91 so I still am saving about $60 and am very pleased with the high quality of the Hyatt Regency (the ones I've stayed in have always been quite nice.) And of course, on Expedia, they were offering the Hyatt for somewhere around $200.

Thanks again. I can only imagine how much work you have put into this great site.
