  1. I was trying to stay as close to Madison Square Gardens as possible. Based on what I had seen on Hotwire, I didn't think I would get a 3 1/2* for much less than $200 in that area so the initial $160 bid I made for a 3 1/2* was just a throw away really - I didn't expect it to be accepted. So then I stayed at $160 for the 3*. Knowing now that I wouldn't get a 3* in MSG region, but wanting to be close, I went to $170 and added Empire State. I am always looking to learn more about bidding strategies so what should I have done differently? Thanks again for all your help. This is a wonderful site.
  2. Learned something here - the Hotwire rates are a good indicator for bidding strategy/amounts. - Used the better bidding link to PRICELINE - Bid $160 for 3 1/2 * in Madison Square Gardens region - added 3 * - added Empire State region and went to $170 - got the Four Points By Sheraton Midtown - Times Square. Since I'm going to an event at Madison Square Gardens (Bruuuuuuuce), I'm quite happy with the location and guess the price is the best I could expect. Thanks again for the advice and assistance. If you want to move this to the Priceline forum, I'm totally fine with that. Cheers
  3. Pretty low bids compared to the above rates. I have bid in MSG, Empire State, Chelsea, Time Square and Mid-town East and West. I have bid up to $134 and gone down as low as 2*. As you advise, I will try bidding up to these rates and see where that takes me. Thanks for the advice.
  4. I'm used to using Priceline but finding out that NYC is busy/expensive on November 7. Based on what I'm seeing offered on Hotwire, I was seriously underbidding. I'm looking at a 4* in Empire State with fitness, restaurant, business centre and high speed internet at $204 or a 3* in Chelsea/MSG with fitness, restaurant and business centre at $189. Anyone able to identify these hotels or provide advice? Thanks in advance.
  5. Sorry I didn't reply to this..... The hotel does have a shuttle but it wasn't running to Izod that day. I asked them if I would die walking there and they said that I probably would. They weren't very helpful at all - just suggested getting a cab. In addition, they wouldn't make a change to a room with two beds even though they still had that configuration available when I phoned and requested it, and even when I checked in. They told me that people might still show up who wanted two beds. And they didn't have any cots. So I was disappointed in this property.
  6. Bid using the site's PRICELINE link. Bid $53 for a 4 star downtown Toronto. Bid rejected but was prompted to bid $15 higher. Closed browser and tried to bid $61 but was refused. Logged out, tried another new browser and was still rejected. It was viewed as a duplicate bid. Would it have made a difference if I had not logged in the first time? At any rate, since there are no 4 star hotels in Toronto West, I added that area and rebid for downtown and west at $61. Offer accepted by Marriott Bloor Yorkville. Thanks for all the info provided here.
  7. Not exactly what I wanted - a little further from the Meadowlands than I wanted to be (Am I right to assume this is a crazy walk to Izod?) May 23, 2009 to May 24, 2009 Started out at 3 1/12 stars Bid 3.5 at $68 for Meadowlands/Rutherford
  8. I'm seeing an event at Izod/Meadowlands on May 23. And I would like 2 beds rather than one double/queen/king. Any advice on where to stay/category and any way to ensure 2 beds? Thanks in advance. Rick
  9. Via the Savings Barn site: bid $70 in North Michigan Ave - River North Area January 26, 2007 - one night accepted at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel Tower 301 East North Water Street
  10. New guy here; first post. I got the Marriott Victoria Inner Harbor; August 21 - August 22, 2006. 2 rooms for $129/per. I needed 2 rooms. I bid up to $129 in the 4* category and wasn't offered anything. When I bounced down to 3*s, I was offered the Marrito Inner Harbour. Happy bidding all!
