  1. Used the PRICELINE link on this site, started bidding at $65. Loved the nice & modern hotel and convenient location to both heart of city (just two subway stops) and airport itself (sky bridge from the hotel to terminal A). Great deal!
  2. I used the PRICELINE link on this site. I've been trying for a week, bidding from 45 to 55 each time, adding various zones around downtown, but no luck. I hoped prices would drop at the last minute, but today I had to go up to 63 (bid 45, 50, 55, 60, 63)...oh well, still a pretty good deal.
  3. I'm also wondering about the 2* condo in central park area. Does anyone have info on these? Thanks.
  4. you are bidding WAY too early. i know it feels risky, but waiting till early december is the most likely way to get a great deal. good luck.
  5. hello, from my (and friends') experience, last minute (on 8/21 or 8/22 for your trip) bidding is the only way to get cheap deals. But of course it's a gamble, so keep an eye on hotwire deals, as they change rapidly. good luck! p.s., all areas of manhattan are safe. there are so many people around.
  6. I think you are bidding way too early. good luck!
  7. Just be patient. I've never gotten a good deal via priceline until close to the date. Hotels don't release cheap rooms until they know their surplus. Hotwire seems a bit more random, so keep your eye on that. good luck!
  8. Got first bid on 4* Downtown/Soho on 8/15, so could have probably gotten cheaper. Linked through savingbarn.com. Hotel was great and we had no problem getting two beds. Only negative was the expensive internet (69 cents per minute in business office). Even though it's far downtown (next door to WTC), it was convenient to everything for walking (to soho or village areas) and subway. Semi related note: we split our bid and were unsuccessful for the dates 8/14-8/16. We bid up to $145 on a 2.5* or higher in any area and didn't get anything, so got a $147 room at Comfort Inn in upper west side for those nights via hotwire. Super location, and tolerable hotel.
  9. We loved the Serrano. They accommodated our request for two beds, even though the priceline reservation guarantees only the queen bed room. The room was nice, and there was a free wine hour each night, free gym with big sauna, aveda products, etc. It's right downtown, yet felt cozy and quiet inside.
  10. I think you're just trying too early. The best deals are much closer to the date. good luck!
  11. The Serrano was great. We wrote an email requesting two beds, and they wrote back that the priceline reservation is for a queen bed room, but that, since they had availability, we could have two doubles. It was a nice room with very comfortable beds, and the hotel has a free wine hour, free gym and big sauna, aveda bath products... our only complaint was the teeny bathroom counter. A great deal for $75!
  12. This forum is so helpful to see what rates people are getting. I started bidding at $65 and entered only USW, USE and Cathedral Hill (in that order). Bid got accepted when I added "boutique". Has anyone stayed here?
